EVERY YEAR, OVER 24,000 STUDENTS ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS START THE PROCESS AT THE REGION LEVEL, AUDITIONING TO TRY TO BECOME AN ALL-STATE MEMBER, A TMEA ALL-STATE MEMBER. OF THOSE 24,000, LESS THAN 3% ACTUALLY MAKE IT TO THE FINAL ALL-STATE BAND. AND WE HAVE ONE SUCH STUDENT IN THIS GROUP. SO IF I COULD HAVE PLEASE, MR. CHRIS SEYMOUR, COME UP AND SEE ME [APPLAUSE]. AND THEN HE GOES BACK TO THE HIGH SCHOOL TO DO ALL KINDS OF EXTRA REHEARSALS AFTER SCHOOL. HE PUTS IN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIME. HE'S A VERY HUMBLE PERSON. THE SECOND ROUND OF THIS COMPETITION WAS CALLED THE GROUP CHAT. DURING THIS, THE TEN OF US WERE ON STAGE AT A TIME AND GAVE IN A SPECIFIC TOPIC WHERE WE ENGAGED IN THE CONVERSATION WITH OUR PEERS. DURING THIS DISCUSSION, A PANEL OF JUDGES SCORED US ON FOCUS, PARTICIPATION, POISE, VALID POINTS AND LISTENING INTENTLY. AFTER ALL FOUR GROUPS OF STUDENTS COMPLETED THEIR CHATS, THE STUDENTS WITH 15 HIGHEST SCORES MOVED ON TO ROUND 3. ROUND 3 OF THE COMPETITION WAS AGAINST A SPECIFIC TOPIC THAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN PRIOR TO THE EVENT. EACH OF US TOOK STAGE IN GROUPS OF FOUR, AND TWO STUDENTS WERE GIVEN A TOPIC AND ENGAGED IN A DEBATE ABOUT THE GIVEN TOPIC. DURING THIS ROUND, STUDENTS WERE JUDGED ON KNOWLEDGE LISTENING, REBUTTAL, POISE AND DELIVERY. GOOD EVENING, MY NAME IS JACKSON BROGDON AND I'M A 5TH GRADER AT BRENT ELEMENTARY.
