[6. Superintendent Spotlight ]
I BELIEVE WE START WITH MISS ASHLEY WITH THE LEADERS OF THE PACK.
PRESIDENT OLSON, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY THIS EVENING TO RECOGNIZE, AGAIN, OUR LEADERS OF THE PACK.
LEADERS OF THE PACK IS A RECOGNITION THAT WE STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS BACK WITH THE SUPPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT LAMB AND PRESIDENT OLSON.
WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE SOME OF THE VERY BEST STAFF MEMBERS IN LITTLE ELM ISD, AND WE WANTED TO TAKE THE TIME TO RECOGNIZE SOME OF THE CREAM OF THE CROP OF OUR STAFF.
EACH MONTH WE SOLICIT NOMINATIONS FROM OUR COMMUNITY, FROM OUR CAMPUS AND DISTRICT STAFF MEMBERS.
WE GET HUNDREDS OF NOMINATIONS AND SO IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO CHOOSE ONLY TWO EACH MONTH TO BRING TO THE BOARD FOR SPECIAL RECOGNITION AND APPRECIATION.
BUT WE HAVE SELECTED TWO THIS MONTH THAT REALLY JUST RISE TO THE TOP AND GO ABOVE AND BEYOND.
WE'LL START WITH OUR VERY FIRST LEADER OF THE PACK, AND WE HAVE A VIDEO TO SHOW YOU ABOUT MR. MICHAEL HORVATH.
>> WE WERE CONTACTED A FEW WEEKS AGO BY A PARENT WHO WAS ASKING IF THERE WAS ANY WAY WE COULD RECOGNIZE IN A SPECIAL WAY ONE OF OUR TEACHERS.
ANYTIME A PARENT COMES TO US AND REALLY SEEKS OUT SOME RECOGNITION FOR SOMETHING A TEACHER HAS DONE, IT FEELS GREAT FOR US AND WE KNOW THAT OUR TEACHERS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
BUT THIS ONE REALLY STUCK OUT TO US BECAUSE OF THE PASSION THAT THE PARENT HAD FOR THIS TEACHER AND FOR RECOGNIZING WHAT HE HAD DONE FOR THEIR FAMILY.
A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION.
THE TEACHER'S NAME IS MR. HORVATH.
MR. HORVATH HAD NOTICED ONE OF HIS STUDENTS IN CLASS HAD A CHANGE IN DEMEANOR, SEEMED A LITTLE BIT LOW FROM PREVIOUS BEHAVIORS, AND JUST NOTICED SOMETHING WAS OFF WITH THE STUDENT.
HE REACHED OUT TO THE PARENT IN A PHONE CALL AND TOLD THE PARENT OF HIS OBSERVING AND HIS CONCERN FOR THE STUDENT.
WELL, THAT LED TO A CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE PARENTS AND THE STUDENT, AND IT REVEALED SOME SERIOUS STRUGGLES THAT THE STUDENT WAS GOING THROUGH.
THE PARENTS IMMEDIATELY WERE ABLE TO BE OF HELP FOR THAT STUDENT.
WHAT THIS PARENT SHARED WITH US IS THAT JUST THE CONNECTION THAT MR. HORVATH HAD TO BE ABLE TO SEE THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING GOING ON WITH HIS DAUGHTER, NOT THAT SHE HAD SAID ANYTHING TO HIM OR THERE WAS ANY REAL MAJOR DISRUPTION OR ANYTHING, HE JUST NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS OFF.
THE PARENT CAME TO US AND SAID, MR. HORVATH LITERALLY SAVED OUR DAUGHTER'S LIFE. WHAT CAN WE DO FOR HIM? WE IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF LEADERS OF THE PACK AND KNEW THAT WE WANTED TO SHARE THIS STORY WITH MR. HORVATH AND WITH OUR COMMUNITY,
[00:05:01]
BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES HIGHLIGHT THE IMPACT THAT OUR TEACHERS HAVE, NOT JUST ACADEMICALLY INSTRUCTIONALLY ON THE CAMPUS, BUT IN THEIR LIVES.IF MR. HORVATH HADN'T NOTICED A CHANGE IN THE STUDENT, AND REACHED OUT TO THE PARENT, AND HAD THAT KIND OF PARTNERSHIP AND THAT KIND OF OPEN COMMUNICATION THAT HE FELT COMFORTABLE DOING SO, THEN THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A VERY DIFFERENT OUTCOME IN THIS SITUATION.
WE WANT EVERY STUDENT ON OUR CAMPUS TO HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING AND TO KNOW THAT THEY'RE VALUED HERE.
WE THINK THAT A BIG PART OF THAT IS FOR STUDENTS TO HAVE A TRUSTED ADULT ON THIS CAMPUS.
I CAN TELL YOU FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT MR. HORVATH IS SOMEBODY THAT MANY OF OUR STUDENTS WOULD NAME AS A TRUSTED ADULT.
YEARS AND YEARS AGO, MY OWN STUDENTS HAD MR. HORVATH AS A MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER, AND THEY USED TO TALK ABOUT HIM ALL THE TIME IN THE CONNECTIONS THAT HE MADE WITH THEM AND THEY'RE FACEBOOK FRIENDS TO THIS DAY.
HE FOLLOWS THEM IN THEIR ACTIVITIES.
HE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE HIS STUDENTS LONG AFTER THEY LEAVE HIS CLASSROOM.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO HONOR YOU IN THIS WAY, MR. HORVATH.
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.
>> I'M SO EXCITED TO TALK TO YOU GUYS ABOUT MR. HORVATH.
HE IS ONE OF THOSE GREAT TEACHERS YOU JUST LOVE SEEING IN THE HALLS, LOVE SEEING IN THE CLASSROOM, LOVE SEEING EVERYWHERE.
HE ALSO HAS ONE OF THOSE UNFAIR ADVANTAGE, HE'S COMING THROUGH IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
HE'S BEEN HERE A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW, AND HE KNOWS THESE KIDS INSIDE AND OUT.
HE KNOWS THEM WHEN THEY WERE MUCH, MUCH YOUNGER, 12, 13 YEARS OLD, AND NOW HE'S BEING ABLE TO SEE THEM AS SENIORS AS THEY KEEP COMING UP THROUGHOUT THE RANKS AND EVERYTHING ELSE. IT'S SUCH A COOL THING.
HE'S ALSO THE SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR, WHICH YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT'S COMING UP HERE IN LESS THAN A MONTH, IS PROMPT.
HE'S THEIR GUY THEY GO TO FOR EVERYTHING.
HE'S DEFINITELY A LEADER OF THE PACK.
I'M SO EXCITED THAT HE'S HERE AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL. [INAUDIBLE].
>> LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IF YOU'LL JOIN ME IN RECOGNIZING MR. MICHAEL HORVATH.
[APPLAUSE] PRESIDENT OLSON, SUPERINTENDENT LAMB.
CONGRATS. MR. HORVATH, AS YOU SAW IN THE VIDEO, HE NOTICED JUST A DIFFERENCE IN ONE OF HIS STUDENTS AND TOOK THE TIME AND THE EXTRA EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE PARENTS, AND THE PARENTS BELIEVE THAT HE SAVED THAT STUDENT'S LIFE.
WE'RE REALLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE MR. HORVATH IN THE DISTRICT.
THIS IS HIS 19TH YEAR IN LITTLE ELM ISD.
HE SPENT 15 YEARS AS A TEACHER AT LAKESIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THIS VERY BUILDING.
HE'S SPENT TWO YEARS AS A TEACHER AT STRIKE, AND HAS NOW TWO YEARS AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL.
IF WE COULD GET HIS WIFE STACY, SHE'S IN THE AUDIENCE, AND ALSO DR. BARRETT, HIS PRINCIPAL.
IF YOU'LL COME UP SO WE CAN GET SOME PICTURES OF YOU WITH OUR LEADER OF THE PACK.
MR. HORVATH SAYS HIS FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING HAS ALWAYS BEEN RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS.
GETTING TO KNOW EACH OF THEM, SEEING THEM COMPETE IN SPORTS OR IN VISUAL OR PERFORMING ARTS IS A JOY OF HIS.
HE'S REALLY LOVED WORKING WITH HIS COLLEAGUES AND HAS MET LIFELONG FRIENDS IN HIS 19 YEARS IN LISD.
CONGRATULATIONS MR. HORVATH, YOU'RE OUR LEADER OF THE PACK.
[APPLAUSE] LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, OUR SECOND LEADER OF THE PACK THAT WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE TONIGHT, WE HAVE A VIDEO TO SHOW YOU ABOUT MRS. SAVANAH SHEAROUSE.
>> CONGRATULATIONS MRS. SHEAROUSE ON THE LEADER OF THE PACK AWARD.
I COULDN'T THINK OF ANYBODY THAT DESERVES THIS MORE THAN YOU.
MRS. SHEAROUSE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR STUDENTS.
SHE IS A TRUE ADVOCATE FOR THEM.
TEACHERS KNOW THAT THEY CAN ALWAYS GO TO MRS. SHEAROUSE IF THEY JUST WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND GET A LAUGH, OR IF THEY NEED HELP WITH SOMETHING INSTRUCTIONALLY.
SHE IS A LEADER HERE ON OUR CAMPUS.
NOT ONLY DOES SHE TAKE EVERYBODY'S KIDS AND FULFILL THEM WITH LIFELONG SCIENCE LESSONS, MATH LESSONS, AND READING LESSONS, BUT SHE ALSO WORKS WITH OUR STUDENTS ON THEIR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING.
SHE KNOWS THAT SHE NEEDS TO PUT THAT FIRST BEFORE THEY CAN EVEN ATTACK ANY ACADEMICS.
SHE HAS WORKED HARD IN OUR BUILDING THIS YEAR AND LAST YEAR, OF COURSE, IN MAKING OUR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM EVEN STRONGER THAN IT WAS BEFORE.
SHE IS CONSTANTLY DANCING AROUND THE ROOM AND SINGING, AND THE STUDENTS NEVER KNOW WHAT SHE MIGHT SAY NEXT.
SHE HAS THEIR STUDENTS 100% ENGAGED, THAT IS NOT AN EASY TASK.
I KNOW THAT OUR STUDENTS LOVE TO GO BACK AND VISIT HER IF THEY ARE IN AN OLDER GRADE, AND THEY LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HER EACH AND EVERY DAY WHEN THEY ARE HERE.
MRS. SHEAROUSE WORKS HARD WITH HER TEAM AND WITH NEW TEACHERS TO SUPPORT THEM BECAUSE SHE IS A LEAD TEACHER WHO DOES AN OUTSTANDING JOB.
WE ARE HONORED TO HAVE MRS. SHEAROUSE HERE AT A CHAVEZ LOBO.
SHE COMPLETES OUR FAMILY AND SHE MAKES LIFE SO MUCH FUN.
[00:10:02]
SHE CONSTANTLY HAS JOKES AND SONGS THAT SHE'S SINGING DOWN THE HALLWAY.TRUST ME, YOU WILL ALWAYS HEAR HER COMING.
CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, MRS. SHEAROUSE, YOU ARE A ROCK STAR.
>> MY NAME IS LACY ANTHONY, AND I NOMINATED MRS. SHEAROUSE FOR LEADER OF THE PACK BECAUSE SHE IS THE DEFINITION OF A SERVANT'S HEART.
MY DAUGHTER HAS HAD HER SINCE FIRST GRADE, AND SHE HAS IMPROVED IN SO MANY WAYS, IN MATH, IN READING, ANYTHING THAT MRS. SHEAROUSE NOTICES, HEY, CALLIE, I NEED A LITTLE HELP IN THIS, SHE'S ON IT.
SHE GETS ONE ON ONE ATTENTION.
SHE PAYS ATTENTION TO EVERY STUDENT IN THE CLASS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ALL GET WHAT THEY NEED.
SHE STILL SHOWS UP EVERY DAY READY TO TEACH.
SHE ALWAYS HAS A SMILE ON HER FACE.
SHE NEVER LETS ANYTHING BRING HER DOWN.
IF SHE DOES, THE KIDS DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT.
SHE IS 100% DEDICATED TO THEM AND MY CHILD'S LEARNING SHOWS THROUGH THAT.
IT SHOWS EVERY DAY SHE LOVES GOING AND SEEING MRS. SHEAROUSE.
THERE'S ALWAYS SOME FUNNY STORY ABOUT MRS. SHEAROUSE.
MRS. SHEAROUSE HAS HELPED GET HER INTO DYSLEXIA, AND THERE'S NO ONE ELSE THAT I WOULD CHOOSE FOR MY KID.
HONESTLY, I WISH I COULD TAKE HER WITH ME EVERY YEAR.
BUT SHE IS MORE DESERVING THAN ANYONE FOR THIS NOMINATION AND FOR THIS AWARD.
SHE'S A TREASURE TO MYSELF, MY KID, AND OUR ENTIRE FAMILY.
>> PLEASE JOIN ME IN RECOGNIZING SAVANAH SHEAROUSE, OUR SECOND LEADER OF THE PACK FOR THE NIGHT.
BOARD PRESIDENT OLSON AND SUPERINTENDENT LAMB.
MS. CHARROS TEACHES SECOND GRADE AT CHAVEZ ELEMENTARY.
SHE'S WORKED IN LITTLE ELM ISD FOR THREE YEARS.
HER FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING, AS WE ASK MS. CIVIC TO COME UP AND JOIN US FOR OUR PICTURE ALSO, HER FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING IS WATCHING THE GROWTH THAT HER STUDENTS MAKE.
SHE BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
WHEN MS. CHARROS CAN TEAR HERSELF AWAY FROM CHAVEZ ELEMENTARY, SOME OF HER FAVORITE THINGS TO DO ARE TO READ, SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY, HER CHICKENS, AND HER DOG.
AND WE'D LIKE TO INVITE HER FAMILY TO COME UP AS WELL AND JOIN IN THE PICTURE.
CONGRATULATIONS MS. CHARROS, LEADER OF THE PACK.
[APPLAUSE] AND IN TRUE LEADER OF THE PACK STYLE, MS. CHARROS WOULD LIKE, SHE HAS A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT ARE HERE SUPPORTING HER AND WOULD LOVE TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH HER KIDDOS THAT ARE HERE.
SO SHE'S REQUESTED YOUR PRESENCE, STUDENTS, SO THAT YOU CAN TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOUR TEACHER.
[LAUGHTER] PARENTS, DO YOU WANT TO GRAB A PICTURE OF HER WITH YOUR KIDDOS? LOOK AT THE CAMERAS.
[APPLAUSE] SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, THAT CONCLUDES OUR LEADER OF THE PACK STAFF RECOGNITION.
AT THIS TIME, WE HAVE SOME STUDENT OF THE MONTHS.
NOW, I'M GOING TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THAT OUR BELOVED MR. BARTLETT HAS HAD A KNEE SURGERY OVER SPRING BREAK, AND TODAY WAS HIS FIRST DAY BACK AND HIS KNEE LOOKED LIKE A BASKETBALL.
SO HE HAS LEFT. BUT HE TOLD ME HE'S COMMUNICATED WITH THE PRINCIPALS, AND THAT ALL ARE READY TO DO THIS WITHOUT ME.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT ROLE I NEED TO PLAY AT THIS POINT.
>> YES. SO WE HAVE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT BRENT ELEMENTARY.
MISS HOLMES, IF YOU'LL COME UP AND START US OFF WITH OUR STUDENT RECOGNITION.
>> GOOD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MS. BOWMAN. [LAUGHTER]

AND WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A WONDERFUL STUDENT LIKE ALEXANDRA AT BRENT ELEMENTARY.

LORELEI WORKS HARD TO SET THE BEST EXAMPLE FOR EVERYONE SHE SEES.
SHE TRULY SHOWS EVERY CHARACTERISTIC WE EXPECT TO SEE WHEN WE WANT A CHAVEZ LOBO.
SHE IS INCREDIBLY KIND, ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR HER FRIENDS, AND IS FIERCELY PASSIONATE WHEN SHE STANDS UP FOR OTHERS.

[BACKGROUND] THEY BROUGHT A LOT OF FAMILY TONIGHT.
WAY TO GO LIAM. THE GRANDPARENTS Y'ALL CAN COME.
[00:20:34]
>> I'M CHRIS. AS A PRINCIPAL AT LAKE VIEW, AND UNFORTUNATELY, I JUST GOT A TEXT THAT MOM HAD AN EMERGENCY, SO SHE COULDN'T BE HERE TODAY, BUT I'D STILL LIKE TO RECOGNIZE OUR STUDENT.
OUR STUDENT IS A FIFTH GRADE STUDENT.
AND HER TEACHER, MS. BURNS SAYS THAT SHE IS A TREASURE TO HAVE IN CLASS, HAS REALLY STEPPED UP HER LEADERSHIP QUALITIES IN STUDENT COUNCIL THIS YEAR.
SHE'S ALWAYS READY TO LEARN AND INTERESTED IN NEW INFORMATION.
AUBREY HAS A HEART FOR KNOWLEDGE AND A CALMNESS TO HER THAT MAKES EVERYONE FEEL AT EASE.
SHE'S A GREAT GROUP LEADER FOR THIS REASON, AND WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HER SHINING HER LIGHT HERE AT LAKE VIEW ELEMENTARY.
OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH IS AUBREY ROSE.
>> HELLO. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS BERNADETTE WHITE, AND I'M ONE OF THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AT OAK POINT ELEMENTARY.
OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH IS LANDON LESLIE.
LANDON'S KINDERGARTEN TEACHER MS. BOWMAN STATES THAT "LANDON IS MY NUMBER 1 HELPER ALL THE TIME.
HE IS ALWAYS THERE TO ASSIST FRIENDS AND SHOWS THE CLASS HOW TO BE AN AMAZING STUDENT." SHE ALSO ADDED THAT HE SUCCESSFULLY WALKED INTO KINDERGARTEN WITHOUT HIS TWIN BROTHER, AND GREW TO BE INDEPENDENT.
HE IS A HELPER TO ALL THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM AND ALSO AROUND THE SCHOOL.
HE ALSO LOVES TO EXTEND LEARNING AND LIKES TO ALWAYS HAVE MORE ACTIVITIES TO DO WHEN HE'S DONE.
AND IF YOU KNOW KINDERGARTEN, THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO BECAUSE HE LIKE TO FIND THINGS TO DO.
SO HE'S AN OUTSTANDING STUDENT AND WE JUST ENJOY HAVING HIM AT OAK POINT.
>> HI, MY NAME IS JAMIE. I ALMOST SAID PRESIDENT, PRINCIPAL AT PRESTWICK.
TONIGHT WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THE KINDERGARTEN STUDENT AT PRESTWICK ELEMENTARY.
HER NAME IS EMILY MARTINZ, AND HER CLASSROOM TEACHER, MS. GUTIERREZ, AND THE ENTIRE KINDERGARTEN TEAM SAID ABOUT EMILY.
EMILY HAS MADE GREAT STRIDES AND HAS BECOME MORE CONFIDENT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OF HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
THROUGH HER BRAVERY, SHE HAS OVERCOME PERSONAL BARRIERS.
SHE IS WELL LIKED BY ALL OF HER PEERS AND OF COURSE ALL OF THE STAFF.
SHE EXHIBITS OUR CORE VALUES AT PRESTWICK ON A DAILY BASIS.
CONGRATULATIONS EMILY. COME ON UP.
>> YOU WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE TAKEN?
[00:25:17]
DOES THE REST OF THE FAMILY WANT TO COME UP, GET A PICTURE? ONE MORE PHOTO.NOW, WE'LL INVITE OUR SECONDARY PRINCIPALS.
IS THAT ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES? I BELIEVE SO.
NOW, WE'LL INVITE OUR SECONDARY PRINCIPAL.
WE'LL START WITH MS. SILKA FROM WALKER MIDDLE SCHOOL.
THE WALKER MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT OF THE MONTH IS ETHAN FUENTES, AND I'M GOING TO READ A FEW THINGS THAT HIS TEACHERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT HIM.
COACH JAMIESON SAYS ETHAN STANDS OUT AS AN EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT DUE TO HIS REMARKABLE WORK ETHIC, CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATING DILIGENCE AND DEDICATION IN ALL HIS ENDEAVORS, HE CONSISTENTLY GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND ENSURING THAT TASKS ARE COMPLETED TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD.
NOT ONLY DOES HE EXCEL ACADEMICALLY, BUT ETHAN ALSO EMBODIES INTEGRITY, ALWAYS CHOOSING TO DO THE RIGHT THING, EVEN WHEN FACED WITH CHALLENGES.
HIS PEERS ADMIRE HIM FOR HIS RESPECTFUL AND KIND DEMEANOR, FOSTERING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EVERYONE AROUND HIM.
ETHAN'S COMBINATION OF HARD WORK, INTEGRITY, AND KINDNESS TRULY SET HIM APART AS AN OUTSTANDING STUDENT.
MS. LAMBERT, HIS SCIENCE TEACHER, SAYS ETHAN IS A WONDERFUL STUDENT.
HE WORKS VERY HARD TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS.
HE IS ALSO A FAN FAVORITE WITH HIS PEERS.
I TELL HIM HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE HAVING HIM THIS YEAR, FREQUENTLY.
COACH LEMOYNE, THIS IS SOCIAL STUDIES.
WHEN IT COMES TO ETHAN FUENTES, VERY FEW CAN COMPARE.
AS SOFT SPOKEN AS HE IS, HE SURE HAS A LOT TO SAY WITH THE QUALITY OF WORK AND THE RESPECTFUL MANNER IN WHICH HE CARRIES HIMSELF DAY TO DAY AND CLASS TO CLASS.
HE IS A DETERMINED YOUNG MAN THAT STRIVES FOR GREATNESS AND IS A ROLE MODEL FOR STUDENTS TO COME.
I SEE SO MUCH GREATNESS IN THIS YOUNG MAN'S FUTURE.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR HIM AND EVERYTHING HE WILL BRING TO THE WORLD.
WE NEED MORE KIDS LIKE ETHAN IN THIS WORLD.
I'M SO GRATEFUL THAT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH AND LEARN FROM HIM FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.
ETHAN FUENTES, WANT TO COME ON DOWN? CAN WE HAVE HIS FAMILY COME DOWN?
>> THE ARE BALLER WITH THE [INAUDIBLE]?
>> I KNOW. CONGRATULATIONS ETHAN, AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MS. DE GARCIA FROM STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
>> I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF RECOGNIZING LUKE JACKSON.
LUKE, I'M GOING TO ASK YOU TO COME UP HERE.
LUKE IS A VERY TALENTED STUDENT, NOT ONLY THEATRICALLY BUT ALSO ACADEMICALLY.
MR. BAYARD, HIS TEACHER, SAYS HE HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE PART OF THE STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER PROGRAM ALL THREE YEARS OF HIS TIME AT STRIKE.
[00:30:04]
HE EXCELS AS ONE OF OUR LEAD MALE ACTORS AND TAKES HIS ROLE SERIOUSLY.ALWAYS LOOKING TO IMPROVE HIS CRAFT AND ART.
HE JOINED OUR UIL APA PRODUCTIONS CLASS LAST YEAR, AND HAS CONTINUED THIS YEAR, TAKING ON THE ROLE OF ITS PRESIDENT, AS WELL AS PERFORMING IN THIS YEAR'S UIL APA AS ITS NAMESAKE CHARACTER FROM THE GIVER.
LUKE MODELS THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION WE LOOK FOR IN ROLES OF LEADERSHIP WITHIN THE PROGRAM AND WE THINK HE SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER PROGRAM.
LUKE IS ALSO TAKING PRE-AP ALGEBRA, PHYSICS PRODUCTION, THEATER, ENGLISH HONORS, US HISTORY HONORS, AND HE'S IN ATHLETICS.
LUKE EARNED ALL AS FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER AND HE IS ALSO A MEMBER OF OUR NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY.
LUKE JACKSON, WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU AND HERE'S WHAT THE TEACHER SAID ABOUT YOU. THERE WE GO.
>> YOU JUST HOLD IT AND [INAUDIBLE]. THERE WE GO.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. MRS GENTRY, YOU WANT TO COME UP? YOU GUYS, EVEN THE ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL IS HERE FROM LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING. THAT'S AWESOME.
WE'RE GOING TO DO A COUPLE FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL.
OUR FIRST ONE IS; LUIS YOU WANT TO COME ON UP? LUIS, AND I HOPE I SAID THE LAST NAME RIGHT.
PAZON. LUIS. HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO BE HERE, LUIS.
BUT I DO WANT TO READ ABOUT LUIS BECAUSE THIS IS REALLY COOL.
THIS IS FROM HIS FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER.
IT SAYS LUIS IS SMART AND DETERMINED AND WELL MANNERED.
HE IS LIKED BY HIS CLASSMATES THAT HAVE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM TWO YEARS IN MY AP 4 LANGUAGE AND ALSO MY AP 5 LITERATURE CLASS.
THEN HIS MATH TEACHER, MRS. BROWN, SAYS LUIS IS A VERY DEDICATED STUDENT, ALTHOUGH LUIS HAS NOT TAKEN AB CALCULUS.
HE CAME AND GOT VIDEOS FROM ME WHERE HE COULD STUDY OVER WINTER BREAK.
LUIS SPENT MANY HOURS STUDYING AND IS ONE OF MY TOP BC CALCULUS TWO STUDENTS NOW.
HE TUTORS OTHER STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL OR IN CLASS.
THEY ASKED HIM FOR HELP BECAUSE HE EXPLAINS IT SO WELL.
HIS DEDICATION IS AMAZING SINCE HE STARTED OUT IN AZRA ONE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.
HE ALSO TOOK AP STATS AP PRECALC IN THE FALL.
MANY STUDENTS WOULD NOT HAVE PUT OUT THE EXTRA EFFORT TO GO TO THE HIGHER LEVEL CLASSES.
HE'S EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND COURTEOUS AS WELL.
LUCY. I'M GOING TO READ ABOUT YOU.
>> LUCY ALWAYS COMES TO CLASS WITH A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION AND WORKS REALLY WELL WITH OTHERS.
I LOOK FORWARD TO THE INSIGHTFUL THINGS SHE HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE ASTRONOMY PICTURES WE INVESTIGATE DAILY.
SHE'S ALSO PREPARED AND ENGAGED WITH THE CLASS WORK AS WELL.
MS. GARRETT SAYS, LUCY'S AN INCREDIBLE PERSON.
I COULD ALWAYS RELY ON HER TO HELP WITH ABSOLUTELY ANY TASK SHE'S INVOLVED IN HER EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.
IT'S VERY IMPRESSIVE HOW DEDICATED SHE IS IN EVERY ENDEAVOR.
SHE'S IN STUDENT COUNCIL, SENIOR CLASS SECRETARY, AND I CANNOT BE MORE PROUD OF HER EFFORTS.
SHE'S THE FIRST ONE TO SIGN UP TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE OF ALL TYPES.
SHE'S A MASTER AND SHE'S ALSO DELIGHT TO HAVE ON OUR TEAM, NO MATTER WHAT, SHE WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BACK.
YOU CAN TRUST THAT LUCY WILL GET THE JOB DONE AND SHARE A SMILE WITH YOU TOO.
CONGRATULATIONS, LUCY. THAT'S AWESOME.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE SOME PICTURES NOW. THANKS. MR. LAMB, YOU WANT TO TAKE SOME?
[00:35:18]
LUCY'S FAMILY WILL COME FOR A PICTURE.>> SUPERINTENDENT LAMB. THAT CONCLUDES THE STUDENT OF THE MONTH RECOGNITION FOR MARCH.
>> THANK YOU. CTE TO REARRANGE.
IS JJ HERE? COME ON UP, BROTHER.
>> PRESIDENT OLSON, ESTEEMED MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, I AM PRIVILEGED TO BRING TO YOU AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE HAVE IN CTE WHAT WE COMMONLY REFER TO WITH THE ACRONYM OF CTSO STANDS FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS.
CURRENTLY, WE HAVE FOUR THAT OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ACTIVE MEMBERS OF.
TONIGHT I'M GOING TO BRING TO YOU TWO OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS BECAUSE WE NEED TO RECOGNIZE THEM AS HAVING ADVANCED TO EITHER STATE OR NATIONAL LEVELS WITHIN THEIR COMPETITION.
THE FIRST THING I'M GOING TO DO IS ASK MS. RONNIE HARDIN TO JOIN ME UP HERE.
MS. RONNIE HARDIN IS OUR EDUCATION TEACHING AND TRAINING TEACHER.
THE ORGANIZATION SHE ACTUALLY STARTED THIS YEAR WAS THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF FUTURE EDUCATORS.
THIS WAS THE FIRST YEAR OF EXISTENCE FOR THIS ORGANIZATION AND THROUGH MS. HARDIN'S DILIGENCE, SHE ACTUALLY HAD STUDENTS NOT ONLY DO WELL AT THE AREA, BUT ADVANCE AND COMPETE AT THE STATE LEVEL WITH THE TEA.
>> I HAD THREE SENIOR STUDENTS COMPETE.
THE GROUNDWORK THEY HAVE LAID FOR OUR CHAPTER IS GOING TO JUST CONTINUE TO GROW OUR CHAPTER AND PROVIDE FURTHER SUCCESS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
THEY PERFORMED AND GOT A SILVER CERTIFICATE FROM THE STATE, AND I APPRECIATE YOU GUYS HONORING THEM THIS EVENING.
THE FIRST STUDENT IS DYLAN CALVERT AND ANTHONY FLORES AND MARIELLA GONZALEZ.
>> WHAT ARE THEY PLANNING ON TEACHING ONE DAY?
>> YES. I THINK ALL THREE OF THEM PLAN ON PURSUING EDUCATION AS A FUTURE CAREER IN SOME WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. I'M VERY PROUD OF THEM.
>> THANK YOU, MS. HARDIN. THE SECOND ORGANIZATION WE WILL BE TAKING A LOOK AT.
I WILL ASK MS. HOLLY HENRY TO JOIN ME UP HERE AT THE PODIUM IS THE DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION CLUBS OF AMERICA, WHICH IS A REALLY MOUTHFUL FOR JUST SAYING DECA.
IN YEAR 52 OF THIS CHAPTER, WHICH WE ARE IN OUR ORGANIZATION DID REALLY WELL AT AREA DID REALLY WELL AT STATE.
IN A MONTH, WE'LL BE TRAVELING TO ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA TO COMPETE AT THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL.
TONIGHT WE ARE GOING TO [INAUDIBLE].
>> YEAH. CAN I READ ALL THE NAMES?
>> IF YOU HEAR YOUR NAME COME UP.
I HAVE A FEW THAT ARE HERE AND MOST THAT ARE NOT, BUT I'D LIKE TO READ EVERY NAME ANYWAY.
YANAWAN ADONRI, ISABELLA BRILEY,
[00:40:02]
NORRELL DE LUNA, CARLA FIGUEROA, KAYLA GARCIA, SANTOS GUNTUCU, TAYLOR HALL, COLIN JENKINS, ALLISON KINGSLEY, BRANDON NADOLSON, ZELINA SALA, CAMERON SORES, LYDIA VASCONCELOS, JANE CRANDALL, MOHAMMED AHMED, ZION BAGBY, JOHN RAMIREZ, MEGHAN REED, AND FINALLY SYRIANA SONG.>> THANK YOU. I KNOW WE HAVE PROBABLY A FEW IN HERE THAT HAVE A BEDTIME GETTING VERY CLOSE.
THIS IS PROBABLY A GOOD POINT THAT IF ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO EXIT STAGE LEFT, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO.
THOUGH WE DO HIGHLY ENCOURAGE AS WE HAVE A VERY JAM-PACKED AGENDA TONIGHT, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STICK AROUND.
OTHER THAN THAT, WE KNOW WE NEED TO GET SOME TO BED HERE SOON.
WE'LL GO TO THE REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT, MR. LAMB.
[7. Reports of the Superintendent]
>> YES. THIS TIME I'D LIKE TO PRESENT ALFRED GACHES TO YOU.
>> GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME UP AND SHARE WITH YOU THE DEMOGRAPHIC REPORT FOR TODAY.
THIS IS FOR THE FOURTH QUARTER OF 23, SO IT ENDS IN DECEMBER.
AS ALWAYS, WE'D LIKE TO START WITH THE LOCAL ECONOMIC CONDITIONS.
AS YOU CAN SEE, OUR UNEMPLOYMENT AND RATES ARE STILL WELL BELOW THE STATE OF TEXAS HAS BEEN FOR A LITTLE WHILE, IT'S STARTING TO GET EVEN NOW.
BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, DENTON COUNTY IS STILL WELL BELOW THE US.
TEXAS AS GENERAL AND THE DFW AREA.
DENTON COUNTY IS STILL DOING VERY WELL AND VERY PROSPEROUS LOOKING AT THE HOUSING ACTIVITY, AS YOU SEE DALLAS FORT WORTH, ARLINGTON IS NUMBER ONE IN THE NATION IN HOUSING GROWTH IN ANNUALIZED STARTS.
BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE ON THE FAR RIGHT, YEAR OVER YEAR PERCENTAGES, WE ARE DOWN 5% IN THE AREA.
IN FACT, EVERY ONE UP THERE EXCEPT THE ORLANDO AREA NUMBER 5 IS IN A NEGATIVE.
YOU CAN SEE A LOT OF PERCENTAGES BEING LOST THERE.
THE DFW IS ONLY DOWN 5% FROM YEAR OVER YEAR.
BUT A LOT OF THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE SHORTAGES OF THE HOUSING STARTS AND HOUSING CLOSINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT LAST YEAR DUE TO THE HOUSING SHORTAGES AND THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON, THE NEW HOME STARTS AND CLOSINGS, WE TALK ABOUT THIS EVERY QUARTER AS WELL.
OUR CLOSINGS ARE STILL OUTPACING OUR STARTS.
WE'RE SELLING THAT INVENTORY AND THAT INVENTORY IS GETTING PRETTY LOW.
[00:45:04]
AS YOU CAN SEE, THEY STARTED AN UPTICK IN THE HOUSING STARTS AND THEN IT LEVELED OFF IN THIS LAST QUARTER.THAT IS SUSPECTED TO BE BECAUSE OF THE HIGHER INTEREST RATES.
THOSE WILL BE STARTING TO CHANGE AS THE FEDS IS NOW TALKING ABOUT STARTING TO LOWER INTEREST RATES A LITTLE BIT.
WE'RE HOPING TO SEE A RECOVERY IN THAT AS WELL.
THIS IS A NEW PIECE OF INFORMATION THAT I ASKED BOB TEMPLETON TO INCLUDE IN OUR DEMOGRAPHIC REPORTS, THE POPULATION TRENDS WHERE WE ARE, BECAUSE WE KNOW WE'RE NOT GROWING AS FAST AS WE HAD ANTICIPATED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.
HE'S GOING TO START INCLUDING THIS INFORMATION IN THERE.
BUT ONE PIECE OF THING THAT I WANT YOU TO SEE HERE IS WHERE IT SAYS G, B, X, M, Z A.
THOSE ARE THE NEW GENERATIONAL NAMES, WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW.
THE NEWEST ONES BORN AFTER 2017 ARE CALLED THE ALPHA GENERATION.
THAT MEANS SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO ME.
I DISAGREE THAT THEY SHOULD BE THE BOSS BECAUSE THEY WERE ONLY BORN IN 2017. THEY'RE STILL YOUNG.
BUT WE ALL KNOW IF WE HAVE FAMILIES THAT YOUNG ONES ARE THE BOSS OF THE FAMILIES.
BUT ACCORDING TO OUR DEMOGRAPHICS, FROM PEOPLE BORN IN 1981 OR AFTER, MAKEUP ABOUT 65% OF OUR POPULATION IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THAT MEANS YOUNGER GENERATION, WHICH MEANS KIDS.
BUT WE ALL KNOW IN TODAY'S GENERATION THAT ADULTS ARE STARTING TO WAIT A LITTLE LONGER TO START THEIR FAMILIES.
WE SEE THAT STILL COMING DOWN THE ROAD.
THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO INCLUDE FROM THAT.
NOW ANOTHER PIECE OF INFORMATION THAT I FIND IS IMPORTANT IS OUR STUDENT CAPTURE RATE.
THIS WAS BROUGHT UP A COUPLE OF BOARD MEETINGS AGO ABOUT HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE WE LOSING EACH YEAR.
THIS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT OUR RATE OF TRANSFERS OUT, BUT THAT IS COMPUTED IN THIS CALCULATION.
ACCORDING TO OUR DEMOGRAPHICS, WE HAVE ABOUT 14,036 SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.
NOW, THAT NUMBER IS NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE BECAUSE IT WAS TAKEN FROM THE AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY, NOT NECESSARILY FROM THE CENSUS REPORTS.
FROM 2010 AND 2020, THOSE ARE ACCURATE NUMBERS FROM THE US.
CENSUS. THE 2023 IS FROM THE SURVEY AND IT IDENTIFIES EVERYONE WHO IDENTIFIED AS LIVING IN LITTLE ELM.
THAT COULD ACTUALLY INCLUDE SOME PEOPLE IN NORTH PALOMA CREEK, THOSE AREAS WHERE THE CITY LIMITS SAY LITTLE ELM, BUT IT'S NOT NECESSARILY LITTLE ELM SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO TAKE THAT WITH A LITTLE BIT OF GRAIN OF SALT.
WE HAVE ABOUT 8,017 WHEN HE CALCULATED THESE NUMBERS.
WE'RE A LITTLE ABOVE THAT RIGHT NOW 8,219, SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES.
WE'RE A LITTLE ABOVE THAT 57%.
BUT YOU CAN SEE A HUGE CHANGE FROM 89.9% CAPTURE RATE OF STUDENTS WHO LIVE IN OUR DISTRICT THAT ACTUALLY ATTEND SCHOOL HERE DOWN TO 57.1% BASED OFF THE 14,000 NUMBER.
THAT INCLUDES TRANSFERS OUT, THAT INCLUDES HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS, THAT INCLUDES PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS.
THAT CAPTURE RATE IS SOMETHING WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHY THAT IS HAPPENING BECAUSE THIS IS NEW INFORMATION FOR US, IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE THOUGHT WAS IMPORTANT TO KNOW.
AGAIN, THE BOARD ASKED SOME QUESTIONS THAT PROMPTED THIS FLICKER IN MY MIND TO ASK, BOB, LET'S RESEARCH THIS AND SEE WHERE WE ARE.
THAT'S WHERE WE CURRENTLY ARE TODAY.
NOW OUR NEXT STEP IS TO HELP IDENTIFY WHY ARE WE NOT CAPTURING ALMOST 90% OF OUR STUDENTS AS WE USED TO IN THE PAST.
THAT'S GOING TO BE OUR NEXT PROJECT FOR ME, ANYWAY.
GETTING BACK TO OUR HOUSING MARKETS, YOU CAN SEE THIS TALKS ABOUT OUR ANNUAL HOME SALES BY TYPE.
TOTAL HOME SALES HAVE DECREASED OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS.
NEW HOME SALES ACCOUNTED FOR ONLY 28% OF THAT.
WHERE THEY DECREASED FROM 33% IN 2022.
BUT AGAIN, THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE SELLING THAT INVENTORY AND WE DON'T HAVE THE STARTS AND THE FINISHES THAT ADD TO THAT ACTIVE INVENTORY, THE LITTLE ELM HOUSING MARKET.
THIS IS VERY SURPRISING NUMBERS, BUT IF YOU'RE MOVING INTO THIS AREA, IT'S NOT SURPRISING BECAUSE HOUSING IS BECOMING SOMEWHAT UNAFFORDABLE.
YOU CAN SEE THAT THE AVERAGE NEW HOME PRICE IN LITTLE ELM HAS RISEN 153% IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.
[00:50:01]
THE EXISTING HOME PRICE HAS RISEN 169% IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.OUR AVERAGE NEW HOME PRICE NOW IS $632,000.
OUR EXISTING HOME IS 533,000 AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THAT'S A HUGE INCREASE EVEN FROM 2022, 2021, AND YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THOSE NUMBERS OFF TO THE RIGHT.
HOUSING IS BECOMING A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE AND INTEREST RATES AREN'T HELPING THAT WITH THEM BEING HOVERING AROUND 7%.
I KNOW WE DO HAVE SOME HOUSING COMMUNITIES THAT ARE NOW STARTING TO COME IN THAT ARE WANTING TO INTRODUCE THOSE LOWER TO MEDIUM-PRICED HOMES, WHICH BECOME STARTER HOMES FOR YOUNG FAMILIES.
WE HAVE SOME OF THOSE GOING IN JUST ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF WALKER MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WE HAVE SOME OF THAT GOING ON AS WELL.
HOUSING TRENDS FOR RENTAL PROPERTIES, AS YOU CAN SEE, THOSE ARE STARTING TO DECREASE A LITTLE.
THE OCCUPANCY RATE IS GOING DOWN AS WE ARE STARTING TO SEE MORE RENTAL PROPERTIES AVAILABLE.
WE'VE GOT TWO NEW COMMUNITIES GOING IN RIGHT NOW THAT WILL BE STRICTLY RENTALS.
ONE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE DISTRICT, ONE ON THE SOUTH SIDE.
WE ALSO HAVE A COUPLE OF NEW HOUSING, AND MULTIFAMILY HOUSES GOING IN AS WELL.
AS YOU CAN SEE, OUR CLOSING ARE STILL OUTPACING OUR STARTS.
WE HOPE TO SEE THAT CHANGE IN THE NEAR FUTURE AS BUILDERS START PREPARING AND STARTING NEW HOMES.
THESE NUMBERS DON'T CHANGE A WHOLE LOT.
IT'S STILL, OAK POINT IS STILL OUR LARGEST AND FASTEST GROWING.
BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, LAKE VIEW, WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VALENCIA PENINSULA IS STARTING TO OUTPACE ON VACANT DEVELOPED LOTS.
THEY'VE GOT A LOT MORE GOING ON OUT THERE.
THESE ARE ALL THE ACTIVE AREA FUTURE AREAS.
ACTUALLY, TWO OF THE ONES DOWN BY LAKE WOOD VILLAGE ARE YELLOW IN THIS AREA, BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE ACTIVE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE BEFORE THE END OF SPRING, I BELIEVE.
THAT'S OUR ATTENDANCE ZONES, MULTIFAMILY, YOU SEE ONE ON THE SOUTH SIDE AND THERE'S ONE ON THE NORTH SIDE ON THE PALOMA CREEK PENINSULA, THERE'S A WHOLE ADDITION GOING IN THERE THAT WILL BE RENTAL PROPERTIES ONLY.
THERE WILL NOT BE SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLING.
THIS IS THE OAK POINT AREA, BUT IT'S AT LAKE WOOD VILLAGE.
AS YOU CAN SEE, LAKE WOOD VILLAGE ITSELF.
THEN YOU HAVE NORTH SHORE, LAKE WOOD VILLAGE, AND SOUTH OAK.
THOSE ARE ACTIVELY BEING DEVELOPED NOW, AND THAT'S WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AS OF FEBRUARY IN '24.
YOU CAN SEE THE AREA AROUND, AND I DON'T HAVE A LITTLE POINTER, BUT AS YOU SEE IF YOU KNOW WHERE OUR SITE IS FOR THE ELEMENTARY, IT'S REALLY ON THE SOUTH POINT THERE.
IT'S THE ONLY AREA THAT'S STILL GOT TREES THERE.
BUT THAT'S GOING TO BE CHANGING VERY QUICKLY. IS THAT RIGHT, MICKEY? IT WILL BE CLEARING THAT LAND FOR OUR NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
THAT'S WHERE A LOT OF NEW HOMES ARE GOING TO BE GOING IN THERE.
415 VACANT DEVELOPED LOTS NOW.
ALREADY 713 HOMES OCCUPIED ON THAT PENINSULA.
NORTH LAKE ESTATES THAT IS DEVELOPING, 203 ADDITIONAL LOTS.
EIGHTY HOMES ARE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
THE PARKHOUSE AT PALOMA CREEK IS THE RENTAL UNITS, AND PALOMA SOUTH IS 212 FUTURE LOTS.
ALL OF THOSE SHOULD BE ANTICIPATED, OPENING AS LATEST IN 2025.
TWO NEW HOUSING ADDITIONS TOTALLY, AND THEN THE EXPANSION OF NORTH LAKE ESTATES.
AND HERE'S WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AS YOU CAN SEE THE VALENCIA PENINSULA, THE GREEN AREA TO YOUR RIGHT, YOU CAN SEE THOSE STREETS ARE ALL IN PLACE AND THERE'S ABOUT 70 HOMES BEING BUILT THERE RIGHT NOW.
IT INCREASES MORE AND MORE EVERY DAY.
THE TRIBUTE, YOU CAN SEE THE BB LIVING AT THE TRIBUTE, THAT'S THE SINGLE-FAMILY RENTAL UNITS.
GO RIGHT ACROSS FROM STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
THERE'S ALSO A NEW ADDITION GOING IN ON THE SOUTH SIDE, DOWN BY THE GOLF COURSE, NEW HOUSES GOING IN THERE AS WELL, WHICH IS NOT REFLECTED ON THIS REPORT.
OUR 10-YEAR FORECAST BY GRADE LEVEL HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE LAST QUARTER.
AS YOU REMEMBER, THOSE ONLY CHANGE ABOUT ONCE A YEAR WHEN WE GET THE NEW NUMBERS IN OCTOBER.
THEN WE KEEP THOSE THE SAME RELATIVELY UNTIL WE HAVE SOMETHING THAT PROVES US DIFFERENT, SUCH AS A LARGE ENROLLMENT IN AUGUST.
WE CAN VIEW PROJECTIONS FROM THERE AS WELL.
THEN THE 10-YEAR FORECAST BY CAMPUS, STILL REMAINS THE SAME AS LAST QUARTER. KEY TAKEAWAYS.
NEW HOME STARTS FOR 2023 AT 367 LAKEVIEW AND OAK POINT ELEMENTARY ZONE,
[00:55:03]
SEEING THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF SINGLE-FAMILY CONSTRUCTION.THERE'S OVER 800 LOTS IN DEVELOPMENT, SINGLE FAMILY FOR RENT DEVELOPMENT TAKING PLACE IN TWO AREAS.
AND FIVE-YEAR ENROLLMENT HEADED TOWARD 8,400.
I THINK THAT'S A VERY CONSERVATIVE NUMBER.
I THINK THAT'S GOING TO GO UP FASTER AS THEY GET THOSE HOUSES BUILT.
AND IF THE FED REACTS THE WAY WE ANTICIPATE IN LOWERING INTEREST RATES, THEY ANTICIPATE THREE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THIS YEAR.
HOPEFULLY, THAT WILL HELP US IN CHANGING THAT.
>> COULD YOU SEND US THIS REPORT VIA EMAIL?
>> COULD YOU SEND US TO REPORT VIA EMAIL?
>> YES SIR. I'LL ACTUALLY SEND IT TO SONYA AND SHE CAN DISTRIBUTE IT TO YOU GUYS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
>> MISS FLOOR'S ANY CITIZEN INPUT? WE'LL GO ON TO THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES.
[9. Approval of Minutes ]
CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE REGULAR BOARD MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY 26, 2024.>> DO HAVE A SECOND? BEFORE I EVEN GET IT OUT, JEFF. GOT A SECOND.
ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF RAISE YOUR HAND.
[10. Action Items ]
MISS BROWN, CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF HIRING HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT OLSON, MR. LAMB, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
THIS EVENING, THE ADMINISTRATION IS BRINGING TO RECOMMENDATION FOR THE NEW PRINCIPAL OF HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
WE'VE CONDUCTED A THOROUGH INTERVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS, AND WE ARE BRINGING TO THE BOARD FOR CONSIDERATION OUR RECOMMENDATION.
INFORMATION WAS SUBMITTED TO YOU A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO ABOUT THE CANDIDATES.
SO WITH THAT, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE HIRE OF THE NEW PRINCIPAL OF HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS, I'M HAPPY TO ENTERTAIN THEM.
>> DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF THE HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL?
>> SECOND FROM DAILION? ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR RAISE YOUR HAND.
>> EXCELLENT. SO I'D LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE NEW PRINCIPAL OF HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR THE '24/'25 SCHOOL YEAR IS MR. STEVEN MENEZE.
WE'RE EXCITED TO WELCOME HIM TO THE LOBO FAMILY.
>> CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME.
>> AND I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT ASHLEY DID A GREAT JOB OF INTERVIEWING MANY PEOPLE.
THEY BROUGHT ME THE FINAL TWO, AND I GOT TO SPEND A GOOD COUPLE OF HOURS WITH EACH OF THE TWO FINALISTS.
I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE GUY THAT'S COMING.
HE'S GOT GREAT EXPERIENCE CURRENTLY ON A DUAL LANGUAGE CAMPUS.
IT'S GOING TO BE AN EXCITING TIME FOR US.
THANK YOU, ASHLEY, FOR THE WORK YOU GUYS DID.
>> THANK YOU. WE'LL GO ON TO ITEM B, PROCLAMATION OF THE 2024 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND ADOPTION. DR. TRAMMEL.
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MR. LAMB, PRESIDENT OLSON.
TONIGHT WE ARE COMING TO YOU REGARDING PROCLAMATION 2024.
AS YOU RECALL, I DID A PRESENTATION, I BELIEVE IN JANUARY, JUST LETTING YOU ALL KNOW THAT WE WERE WORKING ON THE NEW INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND THAT WE WOULD BE BRINGING THEM TO YOU THIS MONTH.
WITH THAT, JUST A QUICK REMINDER, THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE PROCLAMATIONS IS JUST TO ALERT THE PUBLIC, THE REGIONAL SERVICE CENTERS AND VENDORS THAT THE STATE IS PUTTING OUT FOR BID INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, AND THEN THAT THE PROCLAMATIONS ARE ISSUED ON A ROTATIONAL BASIS AS OUR TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE UPDATED.
WE DO HAVE NEW INFORMATION ON THIS.
THIS PROCESS MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE, BUT FOR NOW, THIS IS HOW IT IS. A QUICK REMINDER.
THIS PROCLAMATION WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2022 AND THEN UPDATED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2022, AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER OF 2023.
IT INVOLVES OUR K12 SCIENCE CURRICULUM, CTE COURSES, TECH APPS, WHAT WE CALL TECH APPS, K8, AND THEN PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY.
[01:00:03]
A QUICK REMINDER AS WELL THAT THERE WAS MAJOR OVERHAUL OF THE SCIENCE TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, WHICH PROMPTED A SHIFT IN OFFERING PHYSICS AT THAT LEVEL.THEN, I JUST INCLUDED THE LINK TO THE INSTRUCTION MATERIALS ADOPTED BY THE STATE.
I WILL SAY THEY USE THE TEXAS RESOURCE REVIEW PROCESS TO GIVE US THE PERCENTAGE OF ALIGNMENTS OF THE RESOURCE TO THE TEKS OR THE TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.
BEFORE VENDORS EVEN GET ON THE LIST, THEY ARE VETTED BY THE STATE IN THAT WAY.
FOR K8 SCIENCE, WE WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND SAVAS PUBLISHING COMMENTS FROM THE TEACHERS, SPECIFICALLY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, IS THAT THERE'S FULL INTEGRATION WITH CANVAS DETAILED ESL SUPPORT, AND THEY FELT LIKE IT WAS A HIGH-QUALITY CURRICULUM.
OTHER COMMENTS, A MIXTURE OF MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SAVAS HAS EVERYTHING LAID OUT.
IT'S USER-FRIENDLY, IT GIVES EXAMPLES.
THE INSTRUCTION MATERIALS ARE VERY ORGANIZED WITH A TIME FRAME FOR EACH DAY.
THERE'S INFORMATIONAL LETTERS FOR PARENTS.
ANOTHER COMMENT WAS THAT IT OFFERS ESL AND GT OPTIONS IN EACH UNIT, WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO ADDRESS THOSE HIGH-ACHIEVING LEARNERS AS WELL.
PERSONALIZED TRAINING FOR THE TEACHER WAS CREATED IN COLLABORATION WITH LEADING EXPERTS IN THE FIELD, AND THE LAB MATERIALS ARE VERY ORGANIZED INTO LIKE TUBS AND EASILY REFILLABLE.
THE LISTER PROVIDED FOR TEACHERS VERY CLEARLY ON WHAT IS NEEDED FOR THE LESSONS.
THEN FOR CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY, AND PHYSICS, SAVAS, AGAIN WAS THE CHOICE OF THE TEACHER COMMITTEES.
IT WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS RATED 100% COVERAGE BY TEA FOR THE TEKS AND THE ALPS, WHICH IS OUR STRATEGIES FOR OUR ESL LEARNERS, OUR EB'S, OR EMERGENT BILINGUAL LEARNERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.
IT HAS A ROBUST ONLINE EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
THEY HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH FLYNN SCIENTIFIC FOR LAB KITS, WHICH IS HIGH-QUALITY KITS FOR LABS FOR KIDS, AS WELL AS INTEGRATING ONLINE LABS.
OVERALL, THEY FELT LIKE IT GAVE THE MOST COMPLETE EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS.
THEN FOR IPC, WHICH IS OUR INTEGRATED PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY ACCELERATE LEARNING, THAT WAS THE ONLY VENDOR THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVED AS 100% ALIGNED.
WE DID GO WITH THAT. THEN IN THE HEALTH SCIENCES AREA, THIS FIRST RECOMMENDATION IS FOR THEORY AND MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY, AND THEY WANT TO GO WITH ENGAGED LEARNING FOR THOSE TWO COURSES, THEY NOTED THE INFORMATION IN THE RESOURCE HAD THE MOST RELEVANCY WITH STUDENTS AND WITH THE INDUSTRY.
THE SECOND HEALTH SCIENCE IS OUR FORENSICS COURSE.
THEY WANTED TO GO WITH SAVAS PUBLISHING.
THE REASON WAS IT WAS A STRONG RESOURCE THAT PROVIDED GOOD EXPLANATIONS OF THE CONCEPTS FOR STUDENTS.
THEN FOR THE TECH APPS OR TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS.
AGAIN, THIS SPANS ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL.
IT IS MANDATED IN THE 2024 SCHOOL YEAR TO BE TAUGHT AT ALL THOSE GRADE LEVELS.
THEY WANT TO GO WITH TYPING.COM THE ACTIVITIES IN THAT PARTICULAR RESOURCE THEY FELT WERE MORE ROBUST AND PROVIDED FOR ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT ACROSS ALL GRADES SPANS FOR THE TECH APPS.
THEN PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY AND ECONOMICS WAS THE ONE COURSE THAT CAME UP UNDER PROCLAMATION 2024 FOR SOCIAL STUDIES.
THE COMMITTEE IS RECOMMENDING MCGRAW HILL FOR THAT.
THERE WAS AN ABUNDANCE OF RESOURCES THAT COULD BE EASILY INTEGRATED INTO CANVAS.
IN FACT, THEY ALREADY HAVE THE ENTIRE COURSE IN CANVAS FOR THE TEACHERS, AND THAT WAS VERY APPEALING TO THAT COMMITTEE.
THEN THERE'S A LIFE WORKBOOK THAT THE COMMITTEE FELT WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL FOR STUDENTS TO ACTUALLY TAKE WITH THEM AS THEY GO ON INTO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, OR A CAREER, OR WHATEVER FROM THAT COURSE THAT THEY WILL COMPLETE DURING THAT COURSE THAT THEY CAN REFER BACK TO FOR LIFE CHOICES ON
[01:05:03]
THEIR FINANCES AS THEY MAKE THOSE DECISIONS AS THEY AGE OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND INTO COLLEGE AND OR A CAREER.THOSE WERE THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PUBLISHING COMPANIES FROM THE COMMITTEES THAT VETTED THOSE MATERIALS.
JUST A REMINDER, WE DID HAVE VENDOR PRESENTATIONS WHERE OUR VENDORS CAME IN, THE TEACHER COMMITTEES CAME TO LISTEN TO THOSE PRESENTATIONS.
WE HAD OUR TEACHERS TEACH FROM THE MATERIALS TO SEE HOW TEACHER-FRIENDLY ARE THEY, HOW ACCURATE ARE THEY WITH THE RIGOR OF THE TEAKS, AND GOT INPUT AGAIN FROM THEM.
THEN THEY CAME AND ACTUALLY VOTED AND GAVE THEIR EXPLANATIONS OF WHY THEY VOTED THE WAY THEY DID.
THAT WAS TAKEN TO OUR DISTRICT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL, AND THEY BRING THOSE TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD TONIGHT FOR APPROVAL.
WITH THAT, I WOULD ENTERTAIN ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.
>> I HAVE A MOTION FROM THE BOARD TO ACCEPT THE PROCLAMATION 2024 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ADOPTION.
I HAVE A MOTION DO I HAVE A SECOND?
>> ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE. YES.
>> IS THERE A REASON THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE CHOICE FROM THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR THAT ONE COURT? I DON'T LIKE ANYTHING.
WE ADOPT INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE CAN'T SUPPLEMENT WITH OTHER GOOD RESOURCES THAT WE FIND.
THAT PARTICULAR ITEM IT WAS JUST THE STATE IS FAIRLY RIGOROUS IN THEIR RUBRIC TO MAKE SURE THAT THE RESOURCES THEY ARE PUTTING ON THAT ADOPTION LIST ARE ALIGNED TO WHAT THEY WANT TAUGHT WITH THE TEKS, OR THE TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.
THAT IS THE RESOURCE ON THERE.
I KNOW IT FEELS TO SAY MANIPULATIVE. GOOD FOR THAT COMPANY.
BUT WE ALWAYS HAVE THE CHOICE OF SUPPLEMENTAL RESOURCES.
WE CAN CHOOSE TO BUY THE FULANCHILADO OR JUST BUY THE BARE MINIMUM AND SUPPLEMENT WITH OTHER THINGS WE THINK ARE ENGAGING FOR OUR STUDENTS.
>> THANK YOU FOR THAT. I THINK THE QUESTION PROBABLY NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AS TO WHY THERE WAS ONLY ONE RECOMMENDED.
>> YEAH, JUST KIND OF THE DIRTY WORD HERE.
WERE THERE ANY ISSUES AS FAR AS OUR CONTROVERSIES WITH THE BOOKS WE'RE SELECTING, THAT YOU'RE AWARE OF THAT WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF?
THERE WERE NO CONCERNS, AND AS THE TEACHERS PREVIEWED THE BOOKS AND THE VENDORS MADE THE PRESENTATIONS, AND AS THE TEACHERS ACTUALLY DUG IN AND THEY TRIED TO, I THINK, FIND LESSONS THAT WERE IN THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF WHAT THEY WERE TEACHING.
THERE WAS NO COMMENTARY ON ANY OF THAT.
I WOULD SAY TOO, THOUGH, WE ALWAYS BEAR IN MIND THE VALUES AND BELIEFS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND CERTAINLY ARE AWARE OF THAT AS WE USE ANY RESOURCE AND PLAN OUR LESSONS.
SO I FEEL PRETTY GOOD ABOUT IT.
>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU, DR. TRAMMEL.
>> WE'LL GO TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.
I DO BELIEVE THERE ARE TWO ITEMS. WE WOULD LIKE TO PULL ITEM B AND ITEM E. IF WE CAN GO TO ITEM B,
[11.B. Consider approval of Update Policy DP (LOCAL) Personnel Positions]
MISS BROWN, COULD YOU MAYBE COME UP HERE JUST FOR A QUICK QUESTION? I'LL LIKE CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE UPDATE POLICY, DP, LOCAL PERSONNEL POSITIONS.>> GOOD EVENING, AGAIN, BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT LAMB.
A FEW YEARS BACK, THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE APPROVED A NEW LAW THAT REQUIRED THAT SCHOOL COUNSELORS SPEND AT LEAST 80% OF THEIR TIME ACTUALLY SCHOOL COUNSELING.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS BEEN ADOPTED INTO THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE, IT'S IN CHAPTER 33, SECTION 006D.
IT REQUIRES A SCHOOL DISTRICT TO ADOPT A POLICY THAT SPECIFIES THAT 80% REQUIREMENT.
UP TILL NOW, OUR DISTRICT DID NOT HAVE THAT ADOPTED INTO POLICY WHICH HAS CAUSED US TO BRING FORWARD TO YOU OUR DP LOCAL RECOMMENDATION AS SUBMITTED TO YOU.
IT'S THE LANGUAGE RECOMMENDED FROM TASBY, APPROVED BY OUR ATTORNEYS, THAT BASICALLY STATES THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAW, SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL SPEND 80% OF THE COUNSELOR'S WORK TIME ON DUTIES THAT ARE COMPONENTS OF A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM.
[01:10:04]
IT SETS OUT SOME GUIDELINES FOR IF FOR SOME REASON THAT'S UNATTAINABLE, WHAT THE BOARD WILL DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT TO DO IN THOSE RARE CIRCUMSTANCES.WITH THAT, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE EDITS AND REVISIONS TO BOARD POLICY DP LOCAL AS SUBMITTED.
>> DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE?
>> YEAH. YOU ANSWERED A COUPLE OF MY QUESTIONS ALREADY, SO I WONDER WHERE THAT 80% CAME FROM AND HOW TO ASSOCIATE IT.
YOU SUGGESTED OR RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD WOULD PROVIDE THE SUPERINTENDENT WITH RECOMMENDATIONS IF WE CAN'T MEET THAT 80%.
ARE WE TALKING ABOUT MORE STAFF OR ARE WE TALKING ABOUT DIFFERENT RATE? WHAT ARE SOME OF THE IF WE CAN'T MEET THAT 80%?
>> IN THOSE SITUATIONS, THE BOARD WOULD JUST DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT TO DEVELOP A REVISED JOB DESCRIPTION THAT WOULD DETAIL OUT WHAT THE DUTIES OF THE COUNSELOR WOULD BE.
THAT WOULD FALL SHORT OF THAT 80%.
WE DON'T HAVE SPECIFIC EVER BEING IN THIS TYPE OF SITUATION.
THIS LAW HAS BEEN IN EFFECT FOR THREE OR FOUR YEARS AND WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ABIDE BY THE 80%.
BUT IN SOME RARE EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCE, YOU ALL WOULD DIRECT THE SUPERINTENDENT WHO WOULD THEN PROBABLY DIRECT ME TO REVISE THE JOB DESCRIPTION TO DETAIL WHAT THE COUNSELOR'S DUTIES WOULD BE.
>> WE'RE OKAY AT 80% RIGHT NOW?
>> YES. WE'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS.
>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES.
THANK YOU, MS. BROWN, APPRECIATE IT.
>> WE'LL GO ON TO ITEM E. CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF
[11.E. Consider approval of Consulting Services for a New District Data Center]
THE CONSULTING SERVICES FOR A NEW DISTRICT DATA CENTER. MICKEY.>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT OLSON, SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
TODAY I'M COMING TO YOU FOR REQUESTING APPROVAL FOR CONSULTING SERVICE FOR THE DISTRICT DATA CENTER THAT WILL BE LOCATED AT THE LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL.
THE COST OF THESE SERVICES WILL BE FUNDED OUT OF THE PHASE I OF THE SALE OF THE 2022 BOND.
WHERE WE GET THIS FROM IS THAT REDESIGNING AND SHUFFLING SOME OF THE THINGS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE NEW ADDITIONS THAT WE HAVE ON THE DATA CENTER FELL INTO THAT POINT THAT WE NEED TO MOVE AND IT NEEDS TO BE UPDATED ANYWAY.
WE'RE SIMPLY HIRING CONSULTANTS THAT SPECIALIZE IN DATA CENTERS THAT CAN COME IN AND PRETTY MUCH THEY'RE DESIGNING IT.
THEY'LL PRETTY MUCH RUN THE SHOW AS FAR AS HELPING OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT PICK OUT WHAT WE NEED.
ACTUALLY, THEY RECOMMENDED A DATA CENTER FOR US TO SEE THAT WE ALREADY WENT AND TOOK A TRIP TO ANOTHER DISTRICT TO SEE.
THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THIS VENDOR AND THE COSTS AS PRESENTED AND AUTHORIZE SUPERINTENDENT AND HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS.
>> DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE?
>> YES. THIS IS JUST A REVIEW OF DESIGN FOR A NEW DATA CENTER.
THEY'RE GOING TO REVIEW WHAT WE POTENTIALLY COULD BUILD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR DESIGN FOR DATA CENTER.
ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT USING WHAT WE HAVE EXISTING?
>> WHAT WE HAVE EXISTING IS GOING TO FALL INTO ANOTHER PORTION OF THE DESIGN.
IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO FALL INTO THE LIBRARY PORTION.
THE NEW DATA CENTER IS LOCATED IN THAT AREA WHERE WE NEED TO MOVE THE LIBRARY ANYWAY.
>> WE HAVE IT LOCATED. NOW, IS DISASTER RECOVERY INCLUDED IN THAT?
>> DISASTER RECOVERY WERE INCLUDED IN THAT PART OF THE DESIGN PHASE AS WELL?
>> WELL, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY DISASTER RECOVERY? NOW, WE WILL HAVE CERTAIN THINGS IN THAT DATA CENTER. I THINK I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
WE HAVE A DISASTER ROOM RIGHT NOW AS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.
>> IF SOMETHING WAS TO HAPPEN TO HIGH SCHOOL AND THAT PIECE WAS TO BE AFFECTED, WHAT DO WE USE TO BACK UP TO THAT? WHAT ARE WE USING FOR A BACKUP?
>> I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GET GREG.
>> GREG, COME ON NOW. COME ON THERE.
>> BUT I THINK THIS IS MICKEY, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.
[01:15:02]
THIS IS BASICALLY JUST THE CONSULTING SERVICES TO PROVIDE HOW WE'RE GOING TO CONSTRUCT, WHICH IS FINE.I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND, WHEN WE'RE CONSTRUCTING THIS, WHAT ARE THE DISASTER RECOVERY.
>> GREG CAN PROBABLY GIVE YOU.
>> YEAH. RIGHT NOW, THIS CONSULTING IS FOR THE CONNECTIONS IN SIZE, THE DATA CENTER.
AS PART OF THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE, THEY'RE BUILDING US THE WALLS AND THE STRUCTURE AND GENERATOR AND FORTIFYING THE BUILDING.
THIS IS MORE THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS; WHAT DO WE NEED TO PROPEL US SO THAT WE DON'T BUILD OURSELVES INTO A CLOSET LIKE WE ARE NOW BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT OUR DATA CENTER IS NOW.
IT'S A SMALL CLOSET, AND WE'RE REALLY HINDERED BY THAT AS A DISTRICT, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE DON'T DO THAT TO OURSELVES FOR THE FUTURE.
WE WANT TO BUILD, BUILD IT RIGHT.
THAT'S WHAT THESE PEOPLE DO, AND SO THEY'LL MAKE SURE TO GUIDE US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
AS FAR AS YOUR QUESTION FOR RESILIENCY, RIGHT NOW THE PLAN IS THE CLOUD.
AS YOU KNOW, WE'RE PROBABLY THE MOST GEOGRAPHICALLY CHALLENGED DISTRICT IN NORTH TEXAS BECAUSE OF THE PENINSULAS OF THE LAKE, AND SO WE HAVE A REAL PROBLEM WITH FIBER CONNECTIONS ACROSS BRIDGES THAT WE DON'T OWN, THE PATHWAYS, WE CAN'T GO UNDER THE LAKE WITHOUT THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS APPROVAL.
THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT LIMIT US, SO RIGHT NOW THE CLOUD IS OUR BACKUP.
>> WHAT CLOUD PROVIDER ARE WE CURRENTLY USING?
>> PERFECT. THAT IS OUR DISASTER RECOVERY FOR. [OVERLAPPING]
>> AS OF RIGHT NOW THAT IS OUR PLAN.
THAT'S ALSO PART OF THIS DISCOVERY PHASE WITH THE CONSULTING FIRMS. THEY WILL GUIDE US THROUGH HOW DOES THIS WORK, HOW BEST TO DO THAT? OKAY. I'LL HAVE SOME OTHER QUESTIONS BUT I'LL TAKE THOSE OFF LINE AND JUST PIN YOUR NOTES.
>> OKAY. PERFECT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WE'RE DOING FOR THERE AND IF SOMETHING CATASTROPHE HAPPENED, HOW WOULD WE STAY AVAILABLE FOR OUR STUDENTS? PARTICULARLY IF WE HAD A SITUATION WHERE, I DON'T THINK THE PANDEMIC THING WILL EVER HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT WE HAVE THE CAPABILITIES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.
>> WE ARE VERY COGNIZANT OF THAT.
WE DISCUSSED THAT QUITE OFTEN AND THAT'S WHY WE'RE GETTING THE GENERATOR.
WE'RE GETTING A FORTIFIED STRUCTURE FOR OUR DATA CENTER AS BEST WE CAN, BUT WE ARE VERY WELL AWARE OF OUR LIMITATIONS IF THERE WAS A BIG ENVIRONMENTAL EVENT PARTICULARLY.
WE'RE WORKING TO DO OUR BEST FOR THAT.
>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? SEEING NONE.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN.
APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH. WE'LL GO DOWN TO THE REST OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.
[11. Consent Agenda]
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA MINUS B AND MINUS E?>> MOTION AND A SECOND. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THE ITEMS? SEEING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR RAISE YOUR HAND.
BOARD PRESIDENT COMMENTS. I DON'T HAVE MUCH.
[12. Board President Comments ]
I HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A GREAT UPCOMING EASTER WEEKEND.I HOPE STAFF AND STUDENTS GET SOME TIME OFF TO SPEND WITH FAMILY AND REST AND RECHARGE FOR THE END OF THE YEAR GOING INTO BASICALLY, I THINK SIX WEEKS.
I THINK WE'RE GOING INTO THE LAST SIX WEEKS AFTER EASTER.
IT'S GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER HERE.
OTHER THAN THAT, THANK YOU STAFF AS USUAL FOR GREAT PRESENTATIONS, THANK YOU FOR BEING ABLE TO BE JOHNNY-ON-THE-SPOT WITH A QUESTIONS, ALSO A FEW ACTION ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.
BUT OTHER THAN THAT, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO
[13. Board Comments]
MY BOARD MEMBERS AND I'LL START WITH MR. BEBER ON THE RIGHT.>> WELL, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR STAYING LATE.
I DON'T HAVE MANY COMMENTS TONIGHT.
WE DO HAVE A SOLAR ECLIPSE COMING UP IN TWO WEEKS.
I WANT TO COMMEND OUR DISTRICT FOR NOT SHUTTING DOWN AND CLOSING THE SCHOOLS.
I LOOK AT IT AS OUR DISTRICT KIND OF LEANING INTO IT AND EDUCATING OUR STUDENTS ABOUT THAT AND TAKING IT ON, USING IT AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND GETTING THEM OUT THERE, INVITING THE COMMUNITY IN AND MAKING IT SOMETHING THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN BE PROUD OF AND HAVING OUR STAFF INVOLVED IN THAT AND NOT JUST HAVING IT AS A DAY OFF AND HAVING THOSE KIDS HOME FOR FOUR MINUTES AND HAVING THE WHOLE DAY OFF.
HOPE EVERYBODY ENJOYS THAT FROM TWO WEEKS FROM NOW AND GETS HOME SAFE AFTER THAT FOUR MINUTES OF FAME. I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DAVE.
>> I REALLY DON'T HAVE MUCH EITHER.
I JUST WANT TO THANK THE STAFF FOR THE PRESENTATIONS TONIGHT AND THE TIME AND EFFORT YOU PUT INTO TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER GOOD PLANS AND PASS FORWARD FOR OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS HERE IN THE DISTRICT AND FOR THE HARD WORK THAT'S GOING INTO THAT, PARTICULARLY, SOME OF THE HARDER DECISIONS COMING UP FOR THIS NEXT UPCOMING YEAR.
JUST WANT TO WISH EVERYONE A PREEMPTIVE HAPPY EASTER.
HOPE YOU ENJOY IT WITH YOUR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES.
WE'RE INTO THE HOME STRETCH TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AFTER THAT. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.
[01:20:05]
>> I'M GOING TO NUMBER 1, THANK OUR STAFF FOR STAYING LATE.
WE ARE HAVING A STAFF CAREER FAIR ON OCTOBER 6TH RIGHT HERE AT THIS BUILDING.
IF YOU KNOW ANYBODY WHO IS LOOKING FOR A JOB IN EDUCATION, WE'VE GOT A ONE STOP SHOP THAT I WENT LAST YEAR.
IT WAS A GREAT EVENT, VERY ORGANIZED.
CONGRATULATIONS MR. LAMB, YOU'RE COMING UP ON YOUR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY AS A LOBO.
THANK YOU FOR LEADING US AND HELPING US HEAD TOWARDS THE RIGHT DIRECTION, AND HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYBODY WHO IS CELEBRATING.
I HOPE WE ARE GEARING UP FOR THE FINAL PUSH TO THE END OF THE YEAR.
THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT I'VE GOT.
>> I'D LIKE TO ECHO MY BOARD MEMBERS.
ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU STAFF FOR WHAT YOU'RE DOING FOR OUR TEACHERS, PROFESSIONALS, AND OTHER STAFF THAT WE HAVE OUT THERE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS ONE YEAR.
THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF THE TEAM. GO LOBOS.
>> ALSO LET ME THANK THE STAFF.
YOU GUYS REALLY WORK ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY I BELIEVE AT TIMES.
NINE MONTHS INTO THIS POSITION SO I'M LEARNING EVERY DAY AND I REALLY ENJOY THAT I'VE GOT TO GET TO EVERY CAMPUS AND HAVE TOURS OF THE BUILDINGS, AND GET TO KNOW SOME OF THE STAFF AND THE PRINCIPALS.
ONE GOAL I'M GOING TO ASK MY BOARD MEMBER TRUSTEES FOR US TO PUT THIS ON TO-DO LIST.
LAST MONTH WE RECOGNIZED ONE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR.
THAT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE. WE NEED TO IMPROVE THAT.
I SUPPORT THE LADY THAT ACCOMPLISHED THAT BUT THE SIZE OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, WE SHOULD HAVE 10 TIMES THAT, AT LEAST.
I TAKE THAT UPON US AS BOARD MEMBERS FOR WHAT WE CAN SUPPLY FOR THAT PRODUCT THAT WE'RE PRODUCING EDUCATED STUDENTS.
WHATEVER WE CAN DO TO DO THAT, WE NEED TO MAKE THIS ONE OF THE CHECK MARKS THAT WE DO FOR THIS NEXT YEAR.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND SERVICE AND KEEP TEACHING ME, PLEASE.
>> I'VE GOT FIVE MINUTES TO HIT MY MARK.
>> MR. LAMB, SUPERINTENDENT'S COMMENTS?
[14. Superintendent Comments]
IT'S GONE BY SO FAST AND SO FUN.
THE VERY FIRST THING I THINK I DID ON THE FIRST DAY LAST YEAR WAS GO INTO THE ART FAIR THAT IS NOW BEING DISPLAYED AND PICK 10 WINNERS, WHICH I WAS IN THERE THIS MORNING AND TRYING TO PICK FIVE PER CAMPUS.
IT'S NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME AMAZING ART STUDENTS IN THIS DISTRICT.
I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT SCHEDULE FOR YOUR ABILITY TO BUCK GO AND SEE IT, BUT I WOULD SUGGEST YOU MAKE IT A POINT TO GET IN THERE, SEE THE WONDERFUL ART DISPLAYS THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE PUT ON DISPLAY IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM NEXT DOOR WHERE WE HAVE THE ASHLEY CENTER.
WE'VE GOT A LOT OF GREAT THINGS GOING.
IF YOU'RE NOT FOLLOWING ME ON FACEBOOK, I SUGGEST YOU DO.
I JUST GOT ANOTHER SUPERINTENDENT TEXT ME A WHILE AGO SAID, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU'RE DOING ALL YOU'RE DOING, BUT I WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL THERE. IT'S WORKING.
THANK YOU CECILIA FOR THE PUSH TO GET MY OWN FACEBOOK INSTEAD OF WHAT DO YOU CALL IT, STALKING ON MY WIVES.
LOBO PROUD. GREAT DAY TO BE A LOBO. THANK YOU.
>> WITH THAT, DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ADJOURN?
>> ALL THOSE IN FAVOR RAISE YOUR HAND. ALL OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES AT 08:26 PM. I WIN.
