[3. Pledge of Allegiance ]
LET'S STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AT 7:03 P.M..WE DON'T HAVE AN INVOCATION, SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE TO THE INTRODUCTION AND ROLL CALL.
WITH THE BOARD'S POSITION, WE, I NEED A MOTION TO MOVE IN OUR OUR ACTION ITEMS TEN, A
[10. Action Items (Part 1 of 2)]
AND B TO THE BEGINNING OF THIS MEETING BEFORE WE GO INTO THE SUPERINTENDENT SPOTLIGHT.SO I HAVE A MOTION FROM KEN AND A SECOND FROM JEFF.
IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.
AYE. ALL OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES. WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ACTION ITEMS A AND B, TEN A AND B TO THE BEGINNING, MISTER LAMB.
SHE BROUGHT A GROUP TO PERFORM FOR US THIS EVENING.
SHE TEACHES AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND BOTH MIDDLE SCHOOLS.
SO THIS IS THE LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL CLARINET CHOIR.
[00:12:55]
I'M NOT SURE WHO TO GIVE CREDIT TO.[00:12:58]
THAT WAS ALL IN THE SPIRIT OF BOARD APPRECIATION, AND WE BROUGHT IN SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU TO SAY THANK YOU.SO, WHOEVER ACTUALLY PUT THAT TOGETHER, I THINK CECILIA DID THAT.
AND, MAN, YOU CAN TELL THAT OUR CAMPUSES LOVE YOU.
AND WE LOVE YOU, AND WE THANK YOU.
AND. I GOT A GIFT THAT SAYS IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A LOBO, AND IT TRULY IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A LOBO.
SO THANK YOU ALL. WE'LL DO MORE IN A MINUTE.
AS IT'S BEEN MENTIONED, WE'VE MOVED AN ACTION ITEM UP.
NUMBER TEN A AND B AND THERE'S A STORY HERE.
SO I WANT TO JUST GIVE ME JUST A MINUTE.
I DON'T KNOW THAT WE WOULD NORMALLY GO ABOUT NAMING A CAMPUS SO FAR AWAY FROM OPENING A CAMPUS, BUT AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, IT WASN'T LONG AGO WE LOST A VERY, BELOVED MEMBER OF OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.
IN THIS PROCESS, I THINK MOST OF, YOU KNOW, OUR, BOND ELECTION HAS APPROVED WHAT WE HAVE SO, FONDLY BECOME THE NAMES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NUMBER SEVEN AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NUMBER EIGHT.
IT MADE A LITTLE MORE SENSE THAT THAT HER NAME BE ATTACHED TO NUMBER EIGHT THAN NUMBER SEVEN.
SO THAT PUTS US IN POSITION TO GO AHEAD AND NAME NUMBER SEVEN TONIGHT AND NAME NUMBER EIGHT.
BUT WE GOT HERE FOR A REASON AND IT'S A SPECIAL REASON AND I'M EXCITED.
[00:15:06]
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WE WOULD LIKE TO NAME LAKEWOOD VILLAGE ELEMENTARY.AND I BELIEVE WE HAVE SOME FOLKS FROM LAKEWOOD VILLAGE HERE.
OKAY. MISS RUTH HAS JOINED US, AND WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE, BUT, THE FIRST LINE OF ACTION I WOULD ASK THE BOARD TO CONSIDER, THIS NAME FOR THIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IS THERE A MOTION AND A SECOND? SECOND. ANY DISCUSSION? THERE BEING NONE.
ALL IN FAVOR OF NAMING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NUMBER SEVEN, LAKEWOOD VILLAGE ELEMENTARY.
THANK YOU. AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
AND WE APPRECIATE WHAT YOU'VE DONE WITH US AND FOR US.
AND NOW IN THE NAMING OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NUMBER EIGHT.
ADMINISTRATION WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND AND I BELIEVE FAMILY IS HERE.
FAMILY. DO YOU WOULD YOU MIND STANDING? THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.
WE'LL CONSIDER A MOTION TO NAME ELEMENTARY NUMBER EIGHT ASHLEY B GLOVER ELEMENTARY.
DELEON MAKES THE FIRST MOTION.
IS THERE A SECOND? DAN? DAVID MAKES THE SECOND.
IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE.
AYE. AYE. ALL OPPOSED, SAY NAY.
AND JUST TO PUT A LITTLE BOW ON THAT, I'M FAIRLY NEW HERE.
I DIDN'T GET THE PRIVILEGE OF KNOWING DOCTOR GLOVER VERY LONG.
I CANNOT DENY THINGS LIKE THIS NAMING OF A BUILDING.
AND, WE'VE ACTUALLY DEDICATED A ROOM HERE.
A WELL-DESERVED, JOB WELL DONE.
SHE GAVE HER HEART AND SOUL TO THIS DISTRICT IN EVERY WAY.
IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING. SHE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL IN THIS BUILDING.
AND HER LOCKER WAS RIGHT BY HER DESK THAT SHE HAS NOW.
WHAT AMAZING STORIES AND WHAT AMAZING LEGACY WILL CARRY FORWARD FOR HER AND THE FAMILY.
DOCTOR LAMB, YOU MIND IF I SHARE A SMALL STORY? ABSOLUTELY. SO, THIS HAPPENED OF COURSE, SEVEN MONTHS AGO.
I WAS SCHEDULED TO GO SEE MY ONCOLOGIST, AND WHEN I ORIGINALLY WAS SCHEDULED, I HAD RAN INTO A PROBLEM AND CHANGED THE SCHEDULE. AND SO THROUGH CIRCUMSTANCES I JUST FOUND CHANGE SCHEDULE, AND, GOT TO MY ONCOLOGIST.
ONCOLOGIST. AND THIS WOMAN WALKED IN AND I REMEMBER THINKING TO MYSELF, OH, MAN.
I REMEMBER SAYING TO MYSELF, SHE'S NOT FEELING WELL.
I SAID THE POOR THING. SHE'S JUST, SHE'S NOT FEELING WELL.
AND, SHE ASKED THE LADY IF SHE CAN GO USE THE RESTROOM.
AND I GOT UP AND I SAID, HEY, CAN I HELP YOU? AND SHE TURNED AROUND.
AND AT FIRST I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HER.
AND THEN I SAID, OH MY GOD, ASHLEY.
AND WE JUST HUGGED EACH OTHER? NO. KIND OF DO.
ANYTHING YOU NEEDED, JUST LET US KNOW.
THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I REALLY GOT TO TALK WITH HER.
[00:20:12]
I'M SORRY I GOT EMOTIONAL ABOUT THAT.HAD MANY YEARS TO SIT WITH HER AND TALK WITH HER AND SPEND TIME WITH HER AND WORK WITH HER.
AND, SOMETIMES YOU JUST DON'T REALIZE.
THERE ARE TIMES IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU SEE SOMEONE WHO YOU CARE ABOUT.
I FELT IT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST BLESSINGS I HAD.
IT WAS UNUSUAL AT THAT TIME TO SEE HER AT THAT POINT AND NOT REALIZING THAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF MY LIFE CHANGED A TIME PERIOD FOR ME TO CHANGE, TO BE THERE AT THAT TIME WHEN SHE WALKED IN TO HELP HER OUT.
AND SO TO THE FAMILY, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR BLESSING US WITH HER IN OUR LIVES.
IT WAS A BLESSING FOR US TO KNOW HER, SPEND TIME WITH HER, BE WITH HER.
IT WAS A BLESSING FOR THIS DISTRICT, FOR THESE STUDENTS AND HIS PEOPLE HERE.
AND YOU GAVE US THAT BLESSING, THROUGH US.
AND SO I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THAT AMAZING BLESSING AND TIME.
AND EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THAT IT WAS HARD.
THERE WOULD NEVER BE NOTHING TO FILL THAT VOID.
I HOPE THIS MEMENTO OF, WE APPRECIATE YOU AND WHO YOU ARE AND HER WE'LL LIVE ON.
AND THOSE WHO FOLLOW WILL UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF WHAT SHE'S DONE FOR OUR DISTRICT.
I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD LOVE TO SHARE GREAT STORIES.
SORRY, CAN I, THE MOTION IS DOCTOR ASHLEY B CLOVER FOR MY MINUTES.
JUST DOUBLE CHECKING GLOVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
[6. Superintendent Spotlight ]
AT THIS TIME, WE'RE GOING TO HONOR A LOT OF KIDS AND PEOPLE, GUYS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SCHOOL NAMING.IF YOU'D LIKE TO SLIP OUT, NOW MIGHT BE THE TIME.
IF YOU'D LIKE TO STAY, YOU'RE WELCOME TO.
WE'LL MOVE TO B, LEADERS OF THE PACK, STAFF RECOGNITION, MISS BROWN.
GOOD EVENING, SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, VICE PRESIDENT, WATKINS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY ONCE AGAIN THIS MONTH TO RECOGNIZE WONDERFUL MEMBERS OF OUR LITTLE ELM ISD STAFF.
WE ARE REALLY THRILLED TO CONTINUE OUR LEADERS OF THE PACK INITIATIVE.
THERE ARE SO, SO, SO, SO MANY DESERVING, STAFF MEMBERS IN OUR DISTRICT.
OF THIS RECOGNITION, WE DO RECOGNIZE LOTS OF THEM AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL.
WE'RE EXCITED TO HONOR A COUPLE OF STAFF MEMBERS.
WE'LL START WITH RECOGNIZING MISTER JOHN PSZKY FROM WALKER MIDDLE SCHOOL, IF YOU'LL DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE SCREENS. YOU.
[VIDEO] SO FOR THE YEARS I'VE BEEN HERE AT WALKER, I STARTED OUT IN SEVENTH GRADE AND NOW I'M IN EIGHTH GRADE.
AND THERE'S ONE TEACHER WHO REALLY STUCK OUT TO ME.
[00:25:01]
PSZKY, OR AS HIS BELOVED STUDENTS CALL HIM, MR. P. HE'S KIND AND HE'S THOUGHTFUL AND UTMOST HILARIOUS.WHENEVER I COME TO SCHOOL, I FEEL EXCITED JUST SEEING WHAT I'M GOING TO LEARN NEXT.
THE CLASS TRULY FEELS LIKE A FAMILY TO ME.
I FEEL SAFE AND PROTECTED JUST BEING IN HIS CLASS EVERY DAY.
HE'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS.
THAT IS THE REASON WHY I NOMINATED MR. PSZKY. HE TRULY IS A LEADER OF THE PACK.
FOR EXAMPLE, HE IS 100% PRESENT WITH EACH STUDENT AS THEY COME TO HIM.
HE TAKES THE TIME TO SLOW DOWN.
THEY NOTICE THAT INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION.
HE'S THE SAME WAY WITH HIS COWORKERS.
AND ANYTHING THAT I GO TO HIM WITH, HE IS VERY THOUGHTFUL.
HE HAS HE'S NATURALLY INTUITIVE TO WHAT PEOPLE NEED AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.
AND THAT IS A COMMON CONSENSUS HERE AT WALKER ABOUT MR. P. I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYONE KNOWS THIS, BUT HE, OF COURSE, IS EXTREMELY TALENTED IN THE THEATER, AND HE PASSES THAT EXQUISITE KNOWLEDGE ONTO OUR STUDENTS AND THEY GET VERY EXCITED ABOUT COMING TO SCHOOL TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE THEATER.
BUT HE ALSO DIRECTS PLAYS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.
IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE PRODUCTION.
HE GAVE ME A TOUR OF THE PLACE, MADE ME FEEL SPECIAL, AS IS HIS STYLE.
AND, PRETTY MUCH HAS MADE A SAFE PLACE HERE FOR OUR KIDS AND A PLACE THAT THEY CAN CALL HOME.
MR. JOHN PSZKY, IF YOU'LL COME UP SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU AS A LEADER OF THE PACK.
I'D LIKE TO ASK SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, VICE PRESIDENT WATKINS, ALONG WITH OUR DIRECTOR OF FINE ARTS, MR. FRANK FELICE, ALONG WITH OUR PRINCIPAL, MISS CHRISTY SILCOX.
IF YOU'LL COME UP SO WE CAN PRESENT HIM WITH A PLAQUE AND ALSO GET A PICTURE WITH MR. PSZKY. SO YOU HEARD TERMS FROM OUR STUDENT REFERRING TO MR. P AS SHE FEELS SAFE AND PROTECTED.
HE'S ONE OF HER FAVORITE TEACHERS.
MR. P TRULY EMBODIES ALL THAT WE EXPECT AND ALL THAT WE APPRECIATE IN OUR LITTLE ELM ISD STAFF.
HE HAS BEEN IN EDUCATION FOR 13 YEARS, FOUR OF THOSE YEARS HERE IN LITTLE ELM ISD.
HE'S THE SPONSOR OF THE THESPIANS CLUB.
AND WHEN ASKED WHAT IS ONE OF HIS PROUDEST MOMENTS IN EDUCATION, HE SAID, THIS ONE RIGHT HERE.
SO WE'RE EXCITED TO RECOGNIZE MR. P AS A LEADER OF THE PACK, AND HIS WIFE IS PRESENT IN THE AUDIENCE TODAY.
WE'D LOVE TO GRAB A PICTURE WITH YOU TWO.
CONGRATULATIONS, MR. P. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE TO LITTLE ELM ISD.
IF YOU'LL DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE SCREENS.
I KNEW HER SINCE MY SON WAS IN PRE-K WHEN MY SON MAVERICK CAME THROUGH HER CAFETERIA LINE FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND FROM THE FIRST DAY SHE KNEW HIS FIRST NAME, SHE ADDRESSED HIM.
SHE GOT TO KNOW HIM, AND HE WAS TRYING TO GO THROUGH THE LINE AND ONLY GET CHOCOLATE MILK AND ICE CREAM EVERY DAY, AND THAT'S ALL HE WOULD EAT FOR LUNCH. AND SHE WAS, SHE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND AND REACHED OUT TO ME TO NOT LET THAT HAPPEN.
SHE GOT SHE GETS HIM TO EAT HIS LUNCH BETTER THAN I CAN AT HOME.
[00:30:04]
AND SHE WALKS THROUGH THAT CAFETERIA.SHE GETS TO KNOW HER STUDENTS BY NAME.
SHE CREATES RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM.
SHE MAKES SURE THEY HAVE THE NUTRITION THAT THEY NEED.
AND WHEN SHE'S ABLE TO, IF THERE'S ANY CONCERNS, SHE REACHES OUT TO TEACHERS.
EACH AND EVERY DAY, LASHONDA IS ALWAYS UPBEAT AND SMILING.
SHE ALWAYS SPEAKS TO EVERYONE WITH JOY IN HER HEART.
LASHONDA EXEMPLIFIES LITTLE ELM VALUE OF EMBRACING ALL OF HER KIDS AS OUR KIDS.
SHE TREATS OUR STUDENTS AS IF THEY WERE ONE OF HER OWN CHILDREN.
SHE CHEERFULLY GREETS STUDENTS BY NAME DURING BOTH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH SERVICE.
LASHONDA STANBERRY IS JUST AN AWESOME EMPLOYEE FOR OUR CAMPUS, AND WE ARE SO PROUD OF HER TO HAVE EARNED AND WON THIS AWARD FOR LEADERS OF THE PACK.
LASHONDA BRINGS SUCH A SPIRIT OF JOY TO WORK.
AND I LOVE WATCHING THE WAY SHE TAKES CARE OF HER STAFF AND THE WAY SHE INTERACTS WITH THEM.
SHE LOOKS AFTER THEM, SHE HAS GREAT RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM.
AND THEN THAT TRICKLES RIGHT ON DOWN TO THE STUDENTS WITH THOSE RELATIONSHIPS.
SHE'S RIGHT ON TOP OF IT AND COMMUNICATES WITH THEIR PARENTS.
SHE IS VERY DESERVING OF THIS AWARD.
AND ALSO THE WAY SHE COMMUNICATES WITH THE STAFF WHEN WE HAVE THOSE DAYS, THOSE HALF DAYS WHEN WE HAVE TO GET THE SNACK LISTS READY, SHE COMMUNICATES WELL IN ADVANCE WITH THE STAFF, AND SO, LASHONDA'S JUST A REAL ASSET TO THE CAMPUS OF HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY.
COME ON DOWN SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU AS A LEADER OF THE PACK.
I'D LIKE TO INVITE MR. ROSS TO COME ON DOWN.
I KNOW RYAN'S HERE FROM THE CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT.
IF YOU'LL COME ON DOWN. CONGRATULATIONS.
WE'LL TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOU.
MISS STANBURY, AS WE SAID, IS THE CAFETERIA MANAGER AT HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY.
AND MISS STANBURY DOES HAVE SOME OF HER FAMILY HERE.
IF YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE TO COME DOWN AND JOIN US FOR A PICTURE AS WELL, WE'D LOVE TO INVITE YOU DOWN.
IN THE VIDEO, YOU HEARD SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT SHE WORKS WITH AND THE PARENTS THAT SHE'S BEEN, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH, MENTIONING TERMS LIKE GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND. MISS STANBURY CREATES RELATIONSHIPS AND SHE PUTS HEART INTO EVERYTHING SHE DOES.
WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE AND BLESSED TO HAVE MISS STANSBURY AS PART OF OUR TEAM.

MR. LAMB, TURN IT BACK OVER TO YOU.
APPEARS WE MOVE TO THE REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT PROCLAMATION 2024.
[7. Reports of the Superintendent ]
MISS DOCTOR PENNY TRAMEL.[00:55:41]
GOOD EVENING, MISS WATKINS.HAPPY BOARD APPRECIATION, MR. LAMB. TONIGHT WE ARE JUST GIVING YOU A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT PROCLAMATION 2024.
JUST A REMINDER THAT THE PURPOSE OF PROCLAMATIONS IS JUST TO INFORM PUBLISHERS AND THE PUBLIC AND OUR REGIONAL SERVICE CENTERS THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION IS INVITING BIDS FOR NEW INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
PROCLAMATIONS ARE ISSUED ON A ROTATIONAL BASIS.
AND THEN, OF COURSE, OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS NEED TO BE UPDATED AS OUR TEKS ARE UPDATED.
OUR TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.
THIS PARTICULAR PROCLAMATION WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2022, AND THEN IT WAS UPDATED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2022 AND SEPTEMBER OF 2023.
SO ONCE THE STATE STARTS UPDATING THE TEKS, THEY GET PUBLIC INPUT INPUT FROM ALL JUST DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS, AND THEN THEY UPDATE THE PROCLAMATION AND WE END UP WITH NEW TEKS AND THEN AN INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS APPROVED LIST.
THIS PARTICULAR PROCLAMATION, INVOLVED ALL OF K-12 SCIENCE AND SOME OF OUR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSES. AS I SAID, THE TEKS ARE UPDATED AND THEN THEY'RE REALIGNED THIS YEAR.
I DID WANT TO TO LET THE BOARD KNOW THAT WE HAD SIGNIFICANT REALIGNMENT AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS.
AND AS A RESULT OF THAT, WE DO NOT FEEL IT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR STUDENTS TO OFFER PHYSICS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BASED ON THE NEW RELEASE FROM THE STATE.
PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY AND ECONOMICS IS ALSO A COURSE THAT IS PART OF PROCLAMATION 2024.
BECAUSE IT IS ONE COURSE, WE STARTED THAT PROCESS JUST A LITTLE BIT LATER.
THERE ARE SOME INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR PREVIEW BY THE PUBLIC.
AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE PROCESS THAT WE'VE USED FOR THE HUGE PART OF THE ADOPTION, WHICH IS SCIENCE AND CTE, WITH OUR SOCIAL STUDIES COURSE THAT IS ON THE LIST.
THE STATE BOARD APPROVED A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF RESOURCE MATERIALS.
AND WHAT THEY DO IS THEY USE SOMETHING CALLED THE TEXAS RESOURCE REVIEW RUBRIC.
THE MATERIALS ARE SO THAT DISTRICTS CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT WHICH VENDORS THEY WANT TO INVITE IN TO POTENTIALLY, BE CONSIDERED IN THAT PARTICULAR DISTRICT'S ADOPTION.
I'VE LINKED THAT IN, IT'S QUITE A LENGTHY LIST, BUT IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE TO SEE.
MOST OF THE VENDORS ON THE STATE'S LIST ARE 100% ALIGNED, TO THE TEKS.
A LOCAL COMMITTEE WAS FORMED FOR SCIENCE.
IT CONSISTS OF AROUND 27, EDUCATORS THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT.
AND THAT WAS FORMED IN SEPTEMBER, OUR ECONOMICS PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY COURSE.
WE JUST FORMED THAT COMMITTEE.
IT'S LIKE A COMMITTEE OF SEVEN, I THINK.
THIS MONTH, TO CONSIDER BECAUSE IT'S JUST ONE COURSE.
IT'S NOT MASSIVE NUMBERS OF CLASSES AND COURSES.
SO, IN OCTOBER FOR SCIENCE AND CTE, RUBRICS WERE CREATED FOR RATING MATERIALS.
[01:00:06]
SO TO CREATE THOSE RUBRICS, WE DID USE THE TEXAS RESOURCE REVIEW RUBRIC.BUT WE ALSO USED, TESLA, THE TEXAS SCIENCE EDUCATION LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATION RUBRIC.
THEN IN NOVEMBER, DISTRICT VENDORS WERE INVITED IN, FOR A SHOWCASE.
THEN, PARENTAL INPUT WAS INVITED, THIS MONTH AND IS ACTUALLY CONTINUING THROUGH THE END OF THIS WEEK FOR SCIENCE AND CTE. AND WE WILL PROBABLY EXTEND THAT.
WE HAVE SOME OF OUR SOCIAL STUDIES, CURRICULUM IN THERE NOW.
BUT WE'LL PROBABLY EXTEND THAT ANOTHER WEEK FOR THAT ONE COURSE.
IN FEBRUARY, VENDOR NEGOTIATIONS WILL BEGIN WHERE WE ARE GETTING BIDS FROM THE DIFFERENT VENDORS SO THAT THE COMMITTEE IS ABLE TO MAKE A AN INFORMED FINANCIAL DECISION ABOUT THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND CONSIDER THE PROS AND CONS OF THEIR FAVORITES.
AND THEN OUR DISTRICT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL WILL GET A REPORT OF THAT INPUT AND ANY INPUT WE GET FROM OUR PARENTS AND COMMUNITY ON THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO PREVIEW NOW.
AND ONE OF OUR ROOMS HERE AT THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.
AND THEN DC WILL LISTEN TO THAT INPUT AND MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD.
WE ANTICIPATE BRINGING, AN APPROVAL REQUEST FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS TO THE BOARD IN, MARCH, AND THEN WE WILL IN APRIL, IN MAY, LOOK AT FINALIZING THOSE PRICES FROM THE VENDORS AND ORDERING THE NEW INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS. I WILL SAY THAT WE INTEND TO USE OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ALLOTMENT FROM THE STATE TO PURCHASE THESE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
SO HOPEFULLY NO LOCAL BUDGET WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE PURCHASING OF MATERIALS.
THEN. IN JUNE AND JULY, WE WILL BE UPDATING THE CURRICULUM TO ALIGN WITH THE NEW TEKS AND THE INSTRUCTION MATERIALS, AND THEN SCHEDULE OUR TRAINING FOR OUR TEACHERS SO THAT THEY ARE READY TO GO TO TEACH STUDENTS IN AUGUST.
AND WITH THAT, JUST A QUICK INFORMATIONAL PRESENTATION ON OUR PROCLAMATION 2024.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? OKAY, I DO HAVE.
WHAT WILL WE BE REPLACING PHYSICS WITH FOR OUR ADVANCED SCIENCE LEARNERS WHEN WE'VE FINISHED THAT COURSE? WHAT WILL BE THE REPLACEMENT FOR.
OKAY. AND WHERE CAN PARENTS GO LOOK AT THE MATERIALS THAT WE'VE GOT OUT ON DISPLAY SO PEOPLE CAN GO OUT AND DO THAT? SURE. HERE IN THE ADMINISTRATION, IN OUR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WING DOWN.
I THINK IT'S, PL THREE READY? THANK YOU SO MUCH. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OKAY. ALRIGHTY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH DOCTOR TRAMEL.
OUR NEXT ITEM IN ORDER IS CITIZEN INPUT.
[8. Citizen Input ]
MISS FLORES, DO WE HAVE ANY CITIZEN INPUT? OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS MELINDA PRESTON.MISS PRESTON, WILL YOU PLEASE COME FORWARD? I LOVE LOOKING AT THOSE FRIENDLY FACES.
WE HAVE SOME BOOKS THAT WE WANT TO DONATE, BUT I'M GOING TO LET DONNA COME UP AND SHARE WITH YOU.
SHE'S THE NEXT PERSON TO SPEAK.
SEEING THE CHILDREN COME UP AND YOU GUYS HONORING GOOD BEHAVIOR, THAT IS JUST.
AND NOT ONLY THAT, YOU DIDN'T HONOR JUST GOOD BEHAVIOR.
SO I JUST WANT TO SAY WELL DONE, WELL DONE.
[01:05:01]
YOU'VE MADE MY NIGHT.YOU'VE MADE MY MONTH. I'M SURE IT'S MADE MY YEAR.
SO. BUT I WANT DONNA TO COME UP AND PRESENT TO YOU GUYS.
WE'RE HERE FOR YOU AS CITIZENS DEFENDING FREEDOM.
IF YOU GUYS NEED ANYTHING FROM US, WE'RE HERE.
WE JUST WANT TO HONOR YOU GUYS AND HELP YOU GUYS IN ANY WAY THAT WE CAN.
WE WOULD LIKE TO BRING DONNA SMITH FORWARD.
GOOD EVENING. I TOO JUST REALLY ENJOYED THE EVENING.
AND THE LITTLE GIRL THAT WAS IN KINDERGARTEN.
SHE WAS RUNNING DOWN THE AISLE.
BUT, I I'M WITH DISENTIS CITIZENS DEFENDING FREEDOM, AND WE'RE JUST REALLY THRILLED TO BE ABLE TO DONATE, 29 BOOKS. AND SO THERE'S A BOX OF BOOKS OVER HERE, AND I HAVE ONE OF EACH UP HERE THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO YOUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
AND SO LAST NOVEMBER, IN OUR GIVING TUESDAY CAMPAIGN, A LOT OF OUR MEMBERS DONATED FUNDS.
AND SO THESE BOOKS WERE PURCHASED, AND WE'RE JUST REALLY EXCITED TO GIVE THEM TO YOU.
AND, FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, CITIZENS DEFENDING FREEDOM HAS REALLY WE'VE BEEN DILIGENTLY WORKING TO REMOVE INAPPROPRIATE BOOKS FROM THE SCHOOL LIBRARIES, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT BY EXTENDING THIS GIFT OF THESE BOOKS TO YOU FOR YOUR CHILDREN, FOR YOUR LIBRARIES, FOR YOUR GRANDCHILDREN.
AND SO WE'RE HAPPY TO DO THAT.
AND AS AN ORGANIZATION, WHEN WE GOT THESE BOOKS TOGETHER, WE THOUGHT TO OURSELVES, WE WANT TO GIVE THEM WHERE THEY'LL BE APPRECIATED. SO AS BOOKS ARE REMOVED FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY, FROM THE OUR LIBRARIES BECAUSE OF INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT OR PICTURES, WHATEVER IT MAY BE, WE WANT TO BE A PART OF REPLACING THEM WITH SOMETHING THAT TALKS ABOUT GOOD VALUES, SOMETHING THAT'S ENCOURAGING AND CAN BLESS THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.
SO IT'S JUST WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT, I GET TO BE A PART OF BRINGING THESE BOOKS TO YOU.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, AND THE FUTURE CHILDREN.
IT MEANS A LOT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
AND I CAN HAND THESE TO YOU OR PUT THEM BACK OVER HERE.
AND OUR FINAL SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS HEATHER CRAMER.
GOOD EVENING. IT'S GOOD TO SPEAK WITH YOU TONIGHT.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
THIS YEAR'S CALENDAR WAS A GREAT COMPROMISE FOR THE TEACHERS AND FOR THE STUDENTS.
I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING BEFORE YOU VOTE ON THE 2425 CALENDAR.
I'M A TEACHER AT CHAVEZ ELEMENTARY AND ALSO A MEMBER OF THE DEQ.
I AM AWARE THAT THE CALENDAR CANNOT BE THE BEST OPTION FOR EVERY STUDENT AND TEACHER.
I BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL IN AN INTERVIEW TO INFORM THE CANDIDATE THAT THEIR SPRING BREAK WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM THEIR OWN CHILDREN'S BREAK, WHO MAY ATTEND A NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICT.
I AM AWARE THAT SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE SET THEIR SPRING BREAKS THE WEEK OF MARCH 17TH THROUGH 21ST OF 2025, AND FEEL THAT WE SHOULD FIND A WAY TO ALIGN OUR SPRING BREAK WITH THE SURROUNDING DISTRICTS, ESPECIALLY TO RETAIN THE GREAT TEACHERS WE HAVE AND TO RECRUIT QUALITY TEACHERS IN THE FUTURE.
OUR NEXT ITEM IN ORDER IS APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES.
[9. Approval of Minutes ]
[01:10:01]
WE'LL CONSIDER A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES.AND SECOND? SECOND. SECOND FROM DELEON.
IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE DECEMBER 2023 MEETING.
SEE. THE MOTION PASSES, THE MEETING MINUTES ARE APPROVED.
NEXT ITEM IN ORDER IS ACTION OUR ACTION ITEMS.
[10. Action Items (Part 2 of 2)]
WE'RE GOING TO MOVE DOWN TO C MISS BROWN.BOARD OF TRUSTEES. VICE PRESIDENT WATKINS, MR. LAMB. TODAY, THE ADMINISTRATION IS BRINGING RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE CABINET LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE CONTRACTS AND AGREEMENTS, AS WERE PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED TO EACH OF YOU.
IS THERE A MOTION? SO MOVED. DAVID MOVED.
IS THERE A SECOND, JEFF? IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? THERE BEING NONE.
THANK YOU. AND THEN ITEM D APPROVAL OF THE 24-25 SCHOOL CALENDAR. DOCTOR TRAMEL.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MR. LAMB. TONIGHT WE ARE COMING WITH A RECOMMENDED CALENDAR FROM OUR DISTRICT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL.
AND, JUST A QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS THAT WE USE THIS YEAR.
WE DID, CONSIDER THE BOARD'S INPUT OF KIND OF EVERY OTHER WEEK LOOKING AT, GIVING THE STAFF SOME KIND OF DAY, WHETHER IT'S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OR A TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE.
THE DISTRICT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL WERE THEY WERE INFORMED IN SEPTEMBER THAT IN LITTLE ELM THEY ACT IN ADVISORY CAPACITY, ON THE CALENDAR.
SO THEY SERVE AS OUR CALENDAR COMMITTEE.
ON JANUARY THE 11TH, THOSE CHANGES WERE MADE.
AND THEN THE DEIC MET AGAIN ON JANUARY THE 18TH AND MADE ADDITIONAL CHANGES.
SO WE WILL GO THROUGH THE CALENDAR AND I'LL KIND OF POINT OUT A FEW OF THOSE AS WE GO.
THE DEIC DID VOTE TO APPROVE THIS CALENDAR AT THAT JANUARY 18TH MEETING, AND I NEED TO, LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT THAT VOTE WAS 20 TO 1 OR 19 TO 1.
THERE WERE 20 MEMBERS PRESENT.
SO, WITH THAT, WE ARE HERE TONIGHT TO PRESENT THIS CALENDAR TO YOU ALL.
SO AS WE LOOK AT NEW TEACHER, KIND OF ORIENTATION, PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO OUR DISTRICT, WE WOULD HAVE THAT ONBOARDING ON JULY THE 29TH, 30TH AND 31ST.
OUR EDUCATORS WOULD START BACK WITH PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ON AUGUST THE 1ST, THEY WOULD HAVE A WORKDAY PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY, FOR STUDENTS, SO THAT WORKDAY WOULD BE AUGUST THE 7TH AND STUDENTS FIRST DAY WOULD BE AUGUST THE 8TH.
WE WOULD HAVE ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY ON THE 23RD, KIND OF KEEPING WITH THAT SPIRIT OF EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SO, HAVING SOME TIME FOR TEACHERS TO EITHER BE LEARNERS OR TO TAKE CARE OF ADMINISTRATIVE, TASKS AND CONFERENCES AND THAT KIND OF PARTS OF THEIR JOB. ON SEPTEMBER THE 2ND, WE HAVE A HOLIDAY FOR, LABOR DAY.
OCTOBER THE 4TH IS A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY.
OCTOBER THE 14TH AND 15TH IS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WITH THE 15TH.
AND THIS WAS A CHANGE THAT THE COMMITTEE MADE, THE 15TH BEING A HALF WORKDAY, HALF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY, AND THEN FALL BREAK STARTING OCTOBER 16TH THROUGH THE 18TH.
WE HAVE A TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY.
[01:15:03]
ON NOVEMBER THE 22ND WE HAVE A HOLIDAY AND I WILL SAY, ORIGINALLY THAT DATE WAS ON NOVEMBER THE 15TH TO KIND OF GIVE THAT EVERY OTHER WEEK, SCENARIO, THAT THE BOARD REQUESTED LAST YEAR, OUR DEIC WANTED THAT DAY MOVED TO THE 22ND.AND, THAT'S WHAT THEY APPROVED THEN IN DECEMBER, PRETTY STANDARD AND TYPICAL.
WE HAVE AN EARLY RELEASE DAY ON THE LAST DAY FOR STUDENTS BEFORE THE HOLIDAY.
SO THAT EARLY RELEASE FOR STUDENTS IS ON DECEMBER THE 20TH.
WE COME BACK ON DECEMBER THE 6TH.
THIS IS ANOTHER CHANGE THE DEIC MADE.
THEN, MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY IS A HOLIDAY ON JANUARY THE 20TH.
ON FEBRUARY THE 17TH, WE MADE THIS A TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY.
SPRING BREAK IS THE WEEK OF THE 10TH, AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT, AT THE JANUARY 11TH MEETING, WE HAD SPRING BREAK ON THE WEEK OF THE 17TH.
I BELIEVE FRISCO ISD HAS APPROVED THEIR CALENDAR, AND IT IS THE WEEK OF THE 17TH.
AND I KNOW WE DO HAVE, TEACHERS WHO LIVE IN FRISCO, WHOSE CHILDREN GO TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL AND WORK HERE IN LITTLE ELM FOR US. I WILL SAY, THOUGH ANOTHER DISTRICT THAT'S, FAIRLY LARGE THAT WE HAVE EDUCATORS LIVE IS LEWISVILLE ISD AND THEIR SPRING BREAK IS THE WEEK OF MARCH THE 10TH.
IT WAS, QUITE A DISCUSSION WITH THE DEIC AND, AT THE END OF, ALL THE DISCUSSION, AND THERE WAS DISCUSSION ABOUT WHEN IT WAS THE WEEK OF THE 17TH MOVING THAT HALF TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY, HALF STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY TO THE 14TH, BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE DAY BEFORE THE BREAK.
BUT SECONDARY WANTED LIKE IF THE NINE WEEKS ENDS ON MARCH THE 6TH, THEY REALLY FELT LIKE THAT TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY WAS INVALUABLE FOR THEM TO PREPARE GRADES FOR STUDENTS AND REPORT CARDS.
AND SO THAT DAY STAYED STEADY.
BUT THE SPRING BREAK DID FLIP.
IN CTC FOR OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS IS OUT ON THE WEEK OF THE 10TH AS WELL.
AND THAT WAS ANOTHER CONSIDERATION.
THEN IN APRIL WE HAVE TWO BAD WEATHER DAYS, ONE ON APRIL THE 4TH, ONE ON APRIL THE 18TH.
IN MAY WE HAVE A HALF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY, HALF A TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION DAY ON MAY THE 2ND WITH A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY ON THE 16TH.
EARLY RELEASE FOR STUDENTS ON THE 23RD.
THERE IS A TEACHER EXCHANGE DAY, WHICH IS THAT HOT PINK, WHICH MEANS TEACHERS CAN CHOOSE TO GET LIKE THEIR SIX GIFTED AND TALENTED UPDATE HOURS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, ON THEIR OWN TIME AFTER SCHOOL.
SO IT'S KIND OF A FLEX DAY FOR THEM.
AND THEN WE HAVE TEACHER INDEPENDENT PREPARATION ON THE 28TH AND 29TH.
SO THE THE LAST NINE WEEKS OFFICIALLY ENDS ON THE 23RD.
SO WITH THAT, THIS IS THE CALENDAR THAT, THE DEIC VOTED AND IS PROPOSING, FOR THE BOARD TO CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL FOR THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? OR CONCERNED.
THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CALENDAR AS IT IS PRESENTED.
CAN APPROVED AGAIN MADE THE FIRST MOTION.
SECOND. DAVID MADE THE SECOND.
IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION, MR. LAMB? YEAH. I WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT, BECAUSE I STILL.
THIS IS ONE THING THAT I GET TO VIEW THROUGH THE EYES OF KIND OF AN OUTSIDER LOOKING IN.
I JUST WANT TO SAY AGAIN, ON BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH, THE WORK YOU GUYS DID AND DIRECTING THIS STAFF LAST YEAR TO GO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, IT'S CLEAR TO ME, IS PHENOMENAL WORK.
AND I APPRECIATE THE FIRST COMMENT FROM THE TEACHER ABOUT THANK YOU.
[01:20:05]
SO I APPRECIATE BOTH THE STAFF AND YOUR DIRECTION.ONE THING THAT WHEN THE DIRECTION SAYS, LET'S PLEASE NOT START BEFORE AUGUST 1ST AND LET'S TRY TO BE OUT BY MAY, MEMORIAL DAY. HONESTLY, THAT JUST DOESN'T GIVE A LOT OF OPTIONS.
AND SO I DO KNOW THAT THERE'S TERMINOLOGY FLOATING AROUND.
DID WE GET TO VOTE? DID WE GET OPTIONS? WE'RE STILL GOING OFF OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE THE INPUT OF LAST YEAR, TO TRY TO MIMIC THAT.
SO TECHNICALLY SOME OF THAT IS A YEAR OLD, BUT IT'S STILL GOOD INFORMATION.
WE TRIED TO MIMIC AGAIN THE EXACT CALENDAR THAT WE HAD THIS YEAR.
AND I CAN SAY THAT STILL SOMEWHAT AS AN OUTSIDER LOOKING IN, BUT, NOW THIS IS MINE.
THIS WILL BE MINE. AND SO FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, WE'LL WORK WITH IT.
BUT, A GREAT CATCH AS FAR AS THE SPRING BREAK GOES, IT'S PRETTY TYPICAL THAT YOUR SCHOOL WOULD GO WITH THE JUNIOR COLLEGE THAT YOU PARTNER WITH.
SO THAT WAS HARD TO DECIDE AND HEAVILY DEBATED.
IT'S A DIFFICULT REALLY DECISION.
AND WE WERE WE WERE PRETTY SPLIT ON WHICH ONE OF THOSE IS BEST BUT IF YOU'LL LOOK, THERE'S NINE WEEKS FROM JANUARY TO THEN AND TEN WEEKS AFTER, AND IF YOU HAVE TO PICK ONE SIDE TO KIND OF BE OFFSET, THE TEN WEEK AFTER WHEN, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF DAYS ARE DEAD BECAUSE OF TESTING DAYS, THIS ENDS UP MAKING MORE SENSE.
I ASSUME MAYBE YOUR CHILD GOES TO A FRISCO SCHOOL OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT.
BUT AGAIN, IF WE HAVE PEOPLE FROM LEWISVILLE, THIS THAT'S HARD TO REALLY WORK AROUND.
BUT A LOT OF EFFORT WENT INTO THIS, AND I THINK THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY ON BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH TO SAY THANK YOU AND KUDOS TO YOU FOR THE WORK YOU'VE DONE IN DIRECTING AND THIS STAFF THAT WENT AROUND LAST YEAR AND GETTING THIS INPUT AND FEEDBACK AND, PUTTING THIS TOGETHER, WE JUST WORKED HARD TO STAY WITHIN THOSE SAME PARAMETERS.
SO KUDOS TO ALL AND I WILL JUST TAG ON TO THAT.
THE DEIC REALLY, IS ENJOYING THE CALENDAR AND TEACHERS HAVE COMMENTED, THEY DO FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TIME TO GET THEIR WORK DONE AND PAPERS GRADED.
SO THEY ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE AND, OF YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS AND YOUR SUPPORT.
I GUESS A COMMENT I GET A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SPRING.
WE PROBABLY ALL DO RIGHT ABOUT THE SPRING BREAK, BUT BEING A CPA, I ALSO GOT BLASTED FOR IT BEING THE WEEK OF TAX DEADLINES, AND THEY LOVED IT WHEN IT WAS A WEEK AFTER AND NOW IT'S GONE BACK. SO I'M GOING TO CATCH FLACK FOR THAT.
BUT, IT USED TO BE THE CASE THAT WE WHEN I REMEMBER WHEN WE FIRST MOVED TO THE DISTRICT, FOR SEVERAL YEARS, US AND FRISCO WERE SEPARATE BECAUSE IT WAS TIED TO THE JUNIOR COLLEGE.
DO YOU RECALL, OR IN THE MEETING, DO YOU RECALL HOW LONG WE HAVE BEEN LINED UP WITH FRISCO OR A MAJORITY OF THE DISTRICTS VERSUS JUST STRAIGHT UP WITH THE COLLEGE? I DO NOT THIS IS MY SECOND, YEAR HERE, AND SO I'M NOT SURE OF HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON THAT. I KNOW THAT UIL WAS ALSO BROUGHT UP AND THE FACT THAT IF WE HAD, SPRING BREAK THAT WEEK OF THE 17TH, THAT SOME OF OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ENJOY SPRING BREAK WITH THEIR FAMILY BECAUSE WE HAVE EVENTS THAT WEEK.
SO I'M NOT QUITE SURE HOW MANY YEARS WE'VE NOT BEEN ALIGNED.
I KNOW THE BASEBALL PROGRAM DOESN'T HAVE SPRING BREAK, AND THAT'S AN UNDERSTANDING.
BUT I DO KNOW BEFORE THAT WAS AN ISSUE, WE DID MOVE IT TO THE NEXT WEEK FOR SOME TIME.
THAT'S WHAT I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER.
BUT YEAH, IT'S KIND OF GONE BACK AND FORTH.
BUT AND THANKS FOR THE COMMITTEE FOR THEIR TIME.
WE'RE LOOKING AT DIFFERENT PARTNERSHIPS FOR DUAL CREDIT AND OPTIONS.
MR. MONTEMAYOR, I THINK WE'VE BEEN LINED UP WITH, UNT FOR THE MOST PART.
THOUGH MAYBE MOST RECENTLY IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS WHERE WE LINED UP WITH FRISCO.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE ANOTHER COMMENT.
YOU KNOW, AS A BOARD, RIGHT? WE'VE TRIED TO ACCOMMODATE AND WE LISTEN TO OUR STAFF MEMBERS.
[01:25:05]
RIGHT. AND SO WE THOUGHT EVERY TWO WEEKS WE GET SOMEWHAT OF A THREE DAY WEEKEND IF WE COULD.BUT I'M GLAD THAT THE DEIC IS COMING BACK AND KIND OF TWEAKING IT TO WHAT FITS THEIR NEEDS BEST, RIGHT? THEY UNDERSTAND BETTER THAN WE DO, BUT OUR GOAL WAS ALWAYS TO GIVE THEM A THREE DAY WEEKEND IF WE COULD AT SOME POINT, YOU KNOW, WITHIN TWO WEEKS.
I'M GLAD THAT THEY'RE PUTTING IN THAT INPUT AND MAKING THOSE CHANGES.
SO. THEY'RE A WONDERFUL COMMITTEE.
I JUST HAVE TO SAY WE HAVE A GREAT DEIC.
ONE LAST QUESTION ALONG THE SAME LINE.
YOU STATED THAT WE TRY TO HAVE OUR SPRING BREAK MATCH OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ARE AROUND US.
SO CAN YOU GIVE US SOME FINAL INFORMATION FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AROUND US OTHER THAN FRISCO? EVIDENTLY WE'RE DIFFERENT. WELL, I KNOW, YES, SIR.
I KNOW THAT LEWISVILLE DOES HAVE THE WEEK OF THE 10TH.
OKAY. WHICH IS A FAIRLY LARGE DISTRICT THAT, YOU KNOW, SOME OF OUR EDUCATORS LIVE IN.
I DON'T KNOW ALL OF THE DISTRICTS.
WE CAN GET THAT INFORMATION TO YOU.
I KNOW THAT DISTRICTS ARE MANY OF THEM ARE JUST NOW ADOPTING THEIR CALENDARS.
RIGHT. SO WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE.
RIGHT. WHICH LEADS TO THE CONCERN THAT WE HEARD DURING CITIZENS INPUT WAS, DO WE HAVE ANY IDEA PERCENTAGE OF WHAT TEACHERS ARE AFFECTED BY WHAT DISTRICTS THAT WE CAN REALLY DIGEST? I'M SURE THERE'S A REPORT THAT WE MIGHT COULD RUN TO SAY, WHERE DO MOST OF OUR STAFF LIVE? AND THAT'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING WE CAN CONSIDER IN THE FUTURE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. YOU'RE WELCOME, MR. BURTON. ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS THAT OCTOBER TIME FRAME.
[INAUDIBLE] DID WE DO IT LAST TIME? WE DID. SO STUDENTS HAVE A WEEK OFF AND CAN HAVE A WEEK FALL BREAK WITH THEIR FAMILY.
BUT OUR EDUCATORS, ACTUALLY ONLY GET THREE DAYS.
ANYBODY ELSE? ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE 2024 2025 SCHOOL CALENDAR? SAY AYE. AYE.
ALL OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES AND WE HAVE A CALENDAR.
THANK YOU MA'AM. AND YOU ARE NEXT FOR THE COURSE APPROVAL.
YES. I DON'T HAVE A PRESENTATION.
WE ARE BRINGING TO THE BOARD AN ADDITIONAL COURSE, A PRACTICUM IN NURSING.
REQUESTING APPROVAL FOR THAT COURSE TO BE OFFERED TO OUR STUDENTS IN THE 24, 25 SCHOOL YEAR.
WE HAVE BEEN, THIS WILL ALLOW OUR STUDENTS TO GET THEIR CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE.
BUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS WE'VE BEEN KIND OF OFFERING IT THROUGH OUR PRACTICUM OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND A CERTIFICATION THAT STUDENTS USUALLY GET WITH THAT IS THE CERTIFIED CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT.
BUT WE ARE FINDING THAT MORE OF OUR KIDS ARE WANTING THAT NURSING, CERTIFICATE.
AND FOR INSTANCE, WE HAVE 86 SENIORS CURRENTLY IN THAT CLASS RIGHT NOW.
AND SO OFFERING THE PRACTICUM OF NURSING SEPARATELY WILL ENSURE THAT ALL THE KIDS THAT WANT THAT CERTIFICATION CAN GET IT AND BE SCHEDULED INTO THAT CLASS.
SO, 86 IN PRACTICUMS RIGHT NOW.
IT'S AWESOME. IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE OUR NEW COURSE? SO MOVED. DELEON AND JEFF SECONDED.
ALL IN. IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? DO WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? ALL IN FAVOR OF OUR NEW COURSE FOR THE 2024 2025 SCHOOL YEAR.
AND THAT BRINGS US TO SECTION 11, THE CONSENT AGENDA.
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT WE NEED TO PULL? WELL, [INAUDIBLE].
MR. ENGLISH WOULD LIKE TO PULL ITEM C.
THE REVISED SCOPE AND WORK FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ADDITIONS AND RENOVATIONS.
IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND. DAVID'S SECOND.
LET'S GO AHEAD. DO WE NEED TO VOTE? TO PULL IT. OBJECTION TO.
[11.C. Consider approval of Revised Phase 1 Scope of Work for High School Additions & Renovations]
JAMES, YOU GET TO YOU DO GET TO COME PRESENT TO US TONIGHT TO VISIT US.[01:30:01]
GOOD AFTERNOON. BOARD TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDENT LAMB.THE REVISED SCOPE FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, IF YOU CAN RECALL THE FIRST ROUND, I BELIEVE THAT THE ARCHITECT AND, AND RICK MORTON PUT TOGETHER WAS FOR THE, I BELIEVE IT WAS FOR THE LIBRARY EXPANSION, THE CAFETERIA EXPANSION, AND THE CLASSROOM ADDITION.
YOU KNOW, NEW WITH MR. LAMB. YOU KNOW, HE'S KIND OF HE'S NEW HERE TOO.
SO I THINK ONCE WE ALL GOT TOGETHER, THAT SCOPE CHANGED.
SO WE DECIDED TO DO THE GYMNASIUM AND THE CLASSROOM ADDITION FIRST.
SO THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO DO THE OTHER ADDITIONS.
THEY'RE JUST GOING TO BE IN THE SECOND SALE OF THE BOND.
SO THAT'S WHAT THAT CHANGE IS.
IT'S JUST A CLARIFICATION PRETTY MUCH OF THE SCOPE CHANGE.
YEAH. IT WOULD GO GYMNASIUM AND CLASSROOM ADDITION.
THAT WOULD BE IN THE FIRST. NOW WE'RE KEEPING THE SAME BUDGET.
THE BUDGET IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE FROM THE FIRST PHASE.
WE'RE JUST SHIFTING SOME THINGS AROUND SO WE'LL STAY WITHIN THAT SAME BUDGET.
WHEN DO WE ANTICIPATE THE PROJECTS WILL BEGIN FOR THOSE PARTICULAR? WHEN DO WE ANTICIPATE THE PROJECTS COULD POTENTIALLY BEGIN? LIKE THE TIMING.
HOLD ON JUST ONE SECOND. I NEED TO MAKE A MOTION.
IS THERE A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS? YES. THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THE REVISED SCOPE FOR THE, HIGH SCHOOL ADDITIONS.
AND THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THE REVISED SCOPE FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ADDITIONS.
IS THERE A MOTION? IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND.
THERE WE GO. ALL RIGHT, SO TIMING WISE, WHEN, WHEN DO WE ANTICIPATE THE PROJECTS WILL START, ETC..
OKAY. THE TIMING RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN THE DESIGN FOR THE GYMNASIUM AND THE IN THE CLASSROOM ADDITION.
CLASSROOM ADDITION IS PRETTY MUCH.
WE ALMOST HAVE PLANS DONE FOR THAT SECTION OF IT.
WE'RE STILL IN THE DESIGN FOR THE, GYMNASIUM.
YEAH. WE'RE LOOKING TO BREAK GROUND ON THAT, THIS SUMMER.
OKAY. ALL RIGHT, SO WE'RE LOOKING AT LEAST A YEAR OUT, FINISHING.
YEAH. YOU'RE LOOKING AT PROBABLY A TWO YEAR PROJECT.
TWO YEAR PROJECT. OKAY. AND THE PROJECTS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO OVERLAP EACH OTHER.
PHASE ONE AND PHASE TWO IS PROBABLY GOING TO OVERLAP EACH OTHER.
AND SCOPE STILL THE SAME. WE STILL USE THE SAME BUDGET.
WE'RE USING THE SAME BUDGET FOR PHASE ONE THAT WE HAD ORIGINALLY CHOSEN.
THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO, MA'AM.
ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATION? PLEASE SAY AYE. AYE.
THANK YOU. IS ANYBODY? ONE IS, DOES ANYBODY WANT TO PULL ANYTHING ELSE FROM CONSENT? PRETTY. WE'LL CONSIDER A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA MINUS C.
[11. Consent Agenda ]
SO MOVED.DELEON MADE THE MOTION SECOND.
ALL IN FAVOR OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.
ALL OPPOSED? WITH THAT, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE INTO BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS.
[13. Board Comments]
AND I'M GOING TO GO LAST THIS TIME.BUT WE'RE GOING TO START DOWN WITH MR. BEBER. WELL FIRST OFF THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR THE APPRECIATION AND GIFTS FROM ALL THE CAMPUSES.
BUT IT'S NICE SEEING THE APPRECIATION.
I WANT TO START OFF WITH MY OWN APPRECIATION.
[01:35:08]
BRINGING US GREAT OPTIONS OUT OF BOARD WORKSHOP.WE DEFINITELY WANTED TO MAKE A PRIORITY ON OUR TEACHERS AS WELL, AGAIN, TO MAKING SURE THAT WE LISTEN TO THEM AND, YOU KNOW, HAVING THEM IN LITTLE ELM AND BEING A LOBO IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE HAPPY TEACHERS WITH REGARDS TO THAT SCHEDULE, AND WHATNOT.
I DID WANT TO MENTION, MENTION A FEW THINGS IN REGARDS TO IT'S ALWAYS GREAT, NAMING SCHOOLS, BUT ALSO EVEN BETTER WHEN IT'S FOR A GREAT LIFETIME.
AND MY LAST POINT WAS, WAS, YOU KNOW, OUR, BEING SERENADED FOR BOARD APPRECIATION.
I HAVE A TROMBONE AND A TRUMPET.
THANKS, EVERYBODY. AND IT'S NICE TO BE ON THE SECOND HALF OF THE SCHOOL YEAR SO FAR.
ALL RIGHT. I ALSO JUST, YOU KNOW, WANT TO ECHO THE.
THANKS. IT'S BEEN QUITE INTERESTING SEEING THE THE GROWTH OF OF THESE GIFTS OVER THE YEARS.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I DO WANT TO THANK ALL THE WORK THAT HAPPENS THERE.
TO EDUCATE OUR KIDS AND TAKE CARE OF OUR KIDS.
ALSO WANT TO ECHO, STATEMENTS BY MY OTHER BOARD MEMBERS.
IT'S ALWAYS HEARTFELT, LIKE YOU SAY, NAMING A CAMPUS, AND THE CONDITIONS WITH THEIR NAME.
IT'S A GREAT HONOR TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
KIND OF GOING FORWARD. SO, FOR BOARD APPRECIATION, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU MAY HAVE HEARD ME SAY, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO SAY.
I'VE ALWAYS TOLD PEOPLE, THIS SEAT IS NOT MY SEAT.
THIS SEAT IS THE SEAT OF THE COMMUNITY.
THEY DETERMINE WHO SITS IN THIS SEAT.
AND I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO COMMUNITY FOR GIVING US THE HONOR.
AND BEING ABLE TO TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.
AND WITH THE STAFF THAT WE HAVE.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU DO.
WHO ARE OUT THERE? EVERY DAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MIX, MAKING SURE OUR KIDS ARE LEARNING.
AND ASHLEY GLOVER EXEMPLIFIED THAT OPPORTUNITY.
WITH THAT SAID, I HAD A COUPLE OF THINGS I WANTED TO, PUT ON THE BOOKS FOR.
HOPEFULLY WE CAN TALK ABOUT DOING BOARD WORKSHOP.
I WOULD LIKE TO HOPEFULLY ENGAGE IN THAT CONVERSATION A LITTLE BIT MORE ON OUR NEXT BOARD WORKSHOP.
PARTICULARLY ABOUT REPORTING CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR.
I REMEMBER AT ONE POINT WE USED TO PUT ON REPORT CARDS BEHAVIOR AND CONDUCT.
WE HAVE TO ADOPT SOME BOOKS. I THINK WE IT'S COMING UP SOME NEW BOOKS FOR SOME OF THE COURSES.
YEAH. WOULD IT GO OVER SOME OF THAT TO SOME OF THAT? HOW WE GO ABOUT THAT PROCESS, WHAT BOOKS WE'RE ADOPTING.
SO THE BOARD IS AWARE OF WHAT WE'RE ADOPTING, THE BOOKS THAT ARE OUT THERE.
SO WE JUST DON'T GET CAUGHT OFF GUARD WITH SOME UNUSUAL BOOKS.
AND I WANT TO SAY JUST THANK THE STUDENTS FOR PLAYING THIS EVENING.
REALLY ENJOYED THEM COMING IN AND PLAYING FOR US.
THAT WAS JUST AMAZING AND LOVELY TO HEAR.
THE STUDENTS COME IN AND TO THE PARENTS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FOR GUIDING YOUR STUDENTS TO, TO BE GREAT OUT THERE.
THAT'S IT FOR ME. I WILL JOIN THE BANDWAGON AND SAY THANK YOU FOR THE GIFTS.
YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO. WE SEND THAT A LOT.
AND AS DELEON SAID, WE ONLY RENT THESE SEATS.
[01:40:01]
THEY BELONG TO Y'ALL.AND, WE'RE HONORED TO BE ABLE TO SERVE YOU.
AND HOPEFULLY WE ARE ECHOING WHAT YOU'RE FEELING OUT THERE IN THE PUBLIC.
ALSO, THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC.
AND AND SEE THE TALENT THAT IS DEVELOPING IN OUR SCHOOLS.
THE LAST THING I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS I WANT TO RECOGNIZE ALL OF THE TEACHERS, THE ADMINISTRATORS, ANY VOLUNTEERS, PRINCIPALS THAT ARE STANDING OUT THERE IN THE FREEZING WEATHER, UNLOADING CHILDREN AT SCHOOL AND THEN LOADING THEM BACK UP IN THE AFTERNOON, TO THE POINT WHERE HAD ONE PRINCIPAL SAY, MAYBE THE DISTRICT CAN SUPPLY SOME USE THE WORD POLAR, COVERING FOR THEM AT RECENT TEMPERATURES.
I CAN SEE THAT AS THEY WERE BUNDLED UP AS I DROP OFF A COUPLE OF LITTLE ONES EVERY MORNING.
I CALL IT FOUL WEATHER FAIR BECAUSE WE'RE ABOUT TO GET GROUNDED IN THE SPRING COMING UP.
SO MAYBE THAT'S SOMETHING WE, AS THE BOARD CAN CONSIDER AND, SEE IF THERE'S A WAY WE CAN HELP SUPPLY OR SUBSIDIZE THEIR NEEDS IN THE INCLEMENT WEATHER THAT WE'VE HAD AND WILL HAVE COMING UP.
YOU KNOW, I GO BACK A LITTLE BIT.
MARY AND I TRAVELED TO SEVERAL OF THE OF THE OF THE SCHOOLS DURING AND BEFORE CHRISTMAS, AND WE WERE JUST FULLY IMPRESSED WITH. FROM THE PRINCIPALS ON DOWN, THROUGH THE WHOLE STAFF AND THE TEACHERS AND TO SEE THE CHILDREN ENGAGING.
WITH VERY FEW JUST SITTING IN THE CORNER.
I'M REALLY GLAD TO SEE ESPECIALLY THE FINANCE CLASS THAT'S COMING IN HERE AND STARTING.
SO I'M WILLING TO DONATE TO PRINCIPALS OR TEACHERS THAT ARE OUT THERE COLD.
RIGHT. BECAUSE THESE ARE WINNERS RIGHT HERE.
I'M SORRY FOR YOU GUYS STILL IN THE PLAYOFFS.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE CHRISTMAS IN JANUARY, TO BE QUITE HONEST.
AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING, BEING MARRIED TO SOMEONE WHO, PUTS A LOT OF EMPHASIS TO THE DETAIL.
I MOSTLY APPRECIATE THE DETAIL THAT GOES INTO EVERY ONE OF THESE GIFTS.
THE MESSAGE IS THE PACKAGING, THE BREAD.
THAT JUST SEEMS REALLY NICE AND SOFT.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GET HOME AND SLICE A PIECE OF BREAD WITH SOME BUTTER.
BUT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL THOSE GIFTS.
ALRIGHTY. THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR COMMENTS.
[12. Board President Comments]
I TOO WANT TO REITERATE WHAT MY FELLOWS HAVE SAID.I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MY CAMPUS VISITS AND SEEING THE WAY THAT STUDENTS WERE ENGAGED, THE WAY TEACHERS WERE ENGAGING THEIR STUDENTS IN WAYS THAT DON'T LOOK LIKE EDUCATION DID 30 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS LAST IN SCHOOL.
I ALSO WANT TO CALL OUT CECELIA JONES FOR ALLOWING THE BOARD TO SHARE WITH THE COMMUNITY OUR SOME OF OUR FAVORITE MOMENTS WHILE WE WERE STUDENTS BACK ABOUT TEN, 15 YEARS AGO.
AND WE'RE JUST EXPERIENCED DAVID.
AND THEN I'D ALSO LIKE TO THANK THE DEIC FOR THEIR HARD WORK ON THE CALENDAR.
I ALSO WANT I'VE GOT TWO COMMERCIALS, TWO PSA'S.
OUR TEXTBOOKS ARE OPEN FOR REVIEW FOR THE TEXTBOOKS THAT WE REVIEW THIS YEAR.
PLEASE COME AND LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOKS.
THEY ARE HERE IN THE ADMIN BUILDING IN PLC THREE AND ALSO FROM OUR HR TEAM.
IF YOU SEE THEM IN THE LINE, PLEASE DO A CARPOOL KUDO.
ALSO, OUR NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN FOR OUR LEADERS OF THE PACK.
IT'S A GREAT PLEASURE TO GET TO CELEBRATE OUR FANTASTIC LEADERSHIP.
AND THAT BEING SAID, MR. LAMB, IT'S YOUR TURN.
[14. Superintendent Comments]
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MR. BURTON. I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU WERE RENTING THE SEAT, SO WE WILL SEND INVOICES TOMORROW TO ALL OF YOU.THAT WILL BE HELPFUL TO OUR BUDGET.
BUT TRUTHFULLY, THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN.
[01:45:03]
OUR PRINCIPALS DO THE THINGS THEY DO, THIS STAFF AND HOW HARD THEY WORK ON, CARRYING OUT THINGS LIKE THE WISHES THAT YOU GUYS PUT FORWARD LAST YEAR WITH THE CALENDAR AND WHAT HAVE YOU. IT IS AT SOME POINT I WON'T GET TO TALK ABOUT BEING THE THE NEW GUY ANYMORE, BUT I'LL KEEP DOING IT WHILE I CAN.IT'S A PHENOMENAL THING TO WATCH THE WAY THIS COMMUNITY WORKS TOGETHER.
AND, JUST REALLY, REALLY GLAD AND BLESSED THAT I GET TO BE A PART OF IT NOW.
AND IT IS TRULY A GREAT DAY TO BE A LOBO.
THANK YOU. I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING.
KEN? SECOND. JEFF, IT IS 8:40.
8:49. WE'RE OUT THE DOOR.
