GOOD EVENING, BOARD. GOOD EVENING, MR. LAMB, AND GOOD EVENING, PARENTS.
TODAY WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF GIVING THIS AWARD TO GAVIN BURDGE TRIPLET.
SO, GAVIN, IF YOU CAN COME UP TO THE FRONT.
GAVIN, YOU CAN STAND RIGHT HERE. I'M GOING TO READ SOME NICE THINGS ABOUT YOU.
SO HIS TEACHERS, MISS GIORGIO, HIS ALGEBRA TEACHER, SAID GAVIN IS A GREAT CANDIDATE.
HE IS SPUNKY, CREATIVE AND SO INTELLIGENT.
HE'S A REAL LEADER, RALLYING HIS CLASSMATES TO DO THEIR BEST AND GET THEIR WORK DONE.
HE GETS ALONG WITH EVERYONE AND IS REALLY AN INCLUSIVE TEAMMATE.
MISS BAILEY, HIS PHYSICS TEACHER, SAYS HE'S A TALENTED ATHLETE THAT CARES ABOUT SPORTS AND FRIENDS, BUT HE IS ALSO A TRUE STUDENT ATHLETE AND ENSURES HIS CLASSWORK IS NOT ONLY COMPLETED BUT UNDERSTOOD TO NEAR PERFECTION.
HE SHOWS SO MUCH KINDNESS AND RESPECT TO PEERS AND STAFF.
AND THEN MR. JARRETT, HIS ART TEACHER, SAID, HE'S AN INCREDIBLE KID.
HE WORKS HARD WITH EVERYTHING, CAPITALIZED.
HE DEMONSTRATES STRONG LEADERSHIP QUALITIES AND HAS A SUPER KIND AND CHILL PERSONALITY.
OUR SUPERINTENDENT AS THE INTERIM PRINCIPAL OF WALKER MIDDLE SCHOOL, IT'S MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO MR. OSCAR ZEPEDA SALAZAR, OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH.
SO NOW, YOU KNOW, BIG SURPRISE.
YAY, MOM. I WANT YOU TO TURN AROUND AND FACE THIS AUDIENCE WHILE I BRAG ON YOU.
OSCAR HAS ONLY BEEN AT WALKER FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
[00:10:06]
PERSONAL GOAL.HIS ESL TEACHER, MS. COOK, TELLS US THAT HE'S DRIVEN TOWARDS EXCELLENCE IN HIS STUDIES.
HE'S ALSO A VERY HELPFUL KID TO OTHERS.
ALL OF HIS TEACHERS NOTED THIS, AND THEY SENT WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT ABOUT HIS ACADEMIC JOURNEY.
HIS PARENTS CAN BE VERY PROUD OF HAVING RAISED SUCH A WONDERFUL YOUNG MAN.
MR. SCOGGINS NOTES THAT OSCAR IS ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST STUDENTS IN SIXTH GRADE.
HE KEEPS THAT MEGAWATT SMILE ON HIS FACE ALL THE TIME, HE SAID.
OSCAR COULD PROBABLY JUST TAKE OVER AND TEACH HISTORY CLASS IN A PINCH.
HIS MATH TEACHER STATES THAT OSCAR IS ALWAYS WILLING AND LOOKING FOR EXTRA WORK.
AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING BECAUSE HE'S SURROUNDED BY A VERY LARGE GROUP OF EQUALLY HIGH ACHIEVERS.
MS. NORM WORKS WITH OSCAR AND LANGUAGE ARTS.
HE LIKES TO VISIT THE LIBRARY AND CHECK OUT OUR BOOK COLLECTION.
I WISH ALL THE KIDS HAD THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE THAT OSCAR HAS.
MS. YOUNG, HIS SCIENCE TEACHER, HAD THE FINAL SUMMARY OSCARS, JUST A PHENOMENAL STUDENT.
HE DISPLAYS PRIDE IN EVERYTHING HE DOES.
HE DOES HIS BEST IN EVERY SINGLE PROJECT AND ASSIGNMENT.
WE'RE ALL PROUD TO SAY THAT WE ARE OSCARS TEACHER.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, OSCAR ZEPEDA SALAZAR IS WALKER'S STUDENT OF THE MONTH.
GREAT JOB, OSCAR. JOB WELL DONE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MS. OPITZ. NOW, MOVING TO THE HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE OUR ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL, MS..
SHE'S COMING TO THE FRONT AND SHE'LL TALK ABOUT THE TWO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH.
GOOD EVENING, BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENT, MR. LAMB. PARENTS, STUDENTS AND GUESTS.
THE FIRST STUDENT OF THE MONTH.
I WOULD LIKE TO COME ON UP IS SHARIA GILLESPIE.
YOU HAD. SHE TOLD ME I DID MESS UP HER NAME.
I WAS GOING TO GET IT EVENTUALLY.
I'D LIKE TO TELL YOU A FEW THINGS ABOUT SHARIA.
SHE WILL BE STUDYING AT ONE OF THE NATION'S TOP HBCUS, HAMPTON UNIVERSITY, WHERE SHE WILL MAJOR IN PSYCHOLOGY AND MINOR IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES.
HER GOAL IS TO START WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND END WITH A MASTER'S.
SHE ALREADY HAS A BUSINESS WHERE SHE SELLS SNEAKERS.
I'LL TAKE A PAIR. I'M SURE YOU CAN DONATE SOME TO EVERYBODY HERE.
SHE'S PARTICIPATED IN ONE OF HER FAVORITE ACTIVITIES, WHICH IS THE MAYOR CORNELIUS'S MATH CHALLENGE.
SHARIA IS AN AB HONOR ROLL AS HER FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE AND JUNIOR YEAR AND SOON TO BE SENIOR YEAR, SHE'S PLANNING AHEAD. SHE PARTICIPATES IN THE LEISD ART SHOW AND SHE'S A PART OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN AWARENESS CLUB WHERE AND SHE ALSO PARTICIPATES IN POETRY SLAMS. SHE WANTS TO ALSO PROMOTE THAT THERE WILL BE A POETRY SLAM ON THE 21ST OF THIS MONTH.
[00:15:05]
SO COME ONE, COME ALL.SHARIA HAD SOME TEACHERS THAT WROTE SOME WONDERFUL THINGS.
SO YOU GET TO STAND AND TURN AROUND AND BE EMBARRASSED LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.
SHARIA HAS REPRESENTED THE LOBOES WITH PRIDE AS A MEMBER OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN AWARENESS CLUB AND OUR ART PROGRAM, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT SHARIA WILL CONTINUE TO THRIVE AT UNT AND THE HAMPTON UNIVERSITY.
CONGRATULATIONS, SHARIA GILLESPIE.
ARE YOU STILL MAKING? I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR NEXT STUDENT OF THE MONTH, ALEX TAVARES.
I GOT THE NAME COMPLETELY CORRECT THIS TIME.
WE ARE SO PROUD TO HAVE ALEX HERE WITH US TODAY.
WELCOME BACK TO THE TEACHING FIELD.
LHS BAND HE'S BEEN A PART OF SINCE THE NINTH GRADE, WHERE HE DOES PLAY PERCUSSION AND HE'S RECEIVED SUPERIOR RATINGS ON MULTIPLE SOLOS, AND HE'S RECEIVED THE MOST IMPROVED AWARD DURING 2019-21 SCHOOL YEAR.
IN ADDITION, HE HAS RECEIVED THE DIRECTOR'S AWARD DURING THIS 21-22 SCHOOL YEAR, AND HE'S ALSO A SECTION LEADER FOR THE FRONT ENSEMBLE DURING THE 2023 MARCHING SEASON.
ALEX, IF YOU'LL TURN, I'D LIKE TO EMBARRASS YOU AS WELL.
SOME OF YOUR TEACHERS HAVE WROTE THE FOLLOWING.
WE'VE HAD THE HONOR OF WATCHING ALEX BLOSSOM INTO THE STUDENT HE IS TODAY FROM THE SHY FRESHMAN WHO DIDN'T WANT THE EXTRA ATTENTION, SO HE DIDN'T RAISE HIS HAND TO THE STUDENT YOU ACTUALLY DEPEND ON TO ENGAGE THE OTHER STUDENTS IN YOUR CLASS.
HE HAS COME A LONG WAY AND WE ARE ALWAYS BAFFLED BY THE GROWTH THAT WE SEE IN A STUDENT FROM THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR TO BECOMING SENIORS WITH GOALS AND HEARTFELT ASPIRATIONS.
HE IS THE EPITOME OF WHAT OUR SCHOOL CULTURE REPRESENTS.
WE'RE GOING TO MISS HIS SMILE NEXT YEAR.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. ALEX TAVARES, OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH.
AND MR. LAMB, IF YOU DON'T MIND, I'LL MOVE DOWN TO OUR NEXT SPOTLIGHT, WHICH IS SOME OF OUR FINE ARTS RECOGNITION IN THE GREAT WORK THAT OUR STUDENTS DO IN OUR FINE ARTS PROGRAM.
AND SO AT THIS TIME, I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE OUR DIRECTOR FOR FINE ARTS, MR. FRANK FELICE, TO THE FRONT AND TALK ABOUT THE STUDENTS.
SUPERINTENDENT LAMB, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
I LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK ABOUT OUR FINE ARTS STUDENTS.
THIS IS SOMETHING I CAN DO ALL DAY LONG, SO THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.
[00:20:01]
TONIGHT, THERE ARE SEVERAL STUDENTS WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE OVER THIS BOARD MEETING.IN THE NEXT BOARD MEETING, THERE ARE SEVERAL STUDENTS WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT FINE ARTS DEPARTMENTS AND SOME WONDERFUL THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN OUR DISTRICT. BUT FIRST, I HOPE THAT ALL OF YOU GOT TO SEE RIGHT BEFORE SPRING BREAK, THE ART SHOW THAT WAS GOING ON IN THE ROOMS. IF YOU GOT TO STOP BY AND SEE THE ARTWORK THESE STUDENTS WERE DOING, JUST SIMPLY AMAZING.
AND WE'VE GOT SOME VERY TALENTED KIDS IN THIS DISTRICT.
SO I'M GOING TO RECOGNIZE TEN OF THOSE STUDENTS TONIGHT AND I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH THIS QUICKLY.
IS MISS HALEY ADAMS HERE? YES. I'M GOING TO ASK MISS HALEY ADAMS TO COME UP.
SHE'S THE CHOIR DIRECTOR AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL AND ALSO THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR FOR FINE ARTS.
AND I'M GOING TO HAVE HER HELP ME WITH HANDING OUT THESE CERTIFICATES THIS EVENING.
SO I'M GONNA GIVE THEM TO YOU IN THIS ORDER.
SOLO AND ENSEMBLE IS SOMETHING THAT IS EXTRA.
IT'S NOT SOMETHING STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DO, BUT THEY GO ABOVE AND BEYOND.
THEY SELECT THE LITERATURE THAT THEY WANT TO PERFORM.
AND IT IS A PROCESS WITH JUDGES THAT REQUIRES THAT IF THEY PERFORM THE HIGHEST LEVEL DIFFICULTY OF MUSIC, WHICH IS CLASS ONE AND RECEIVE AN OVERALL SUPERIOR OR DIVISION ONE RATING, THEY QUALIFY FOR THE STATE LEVEL.
AND SO WE HAVE EIGHT STUDENTS TONIGHT THAT WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE THAT HAVE DONE THAT AND ARE ALL AND THAT ARE STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE QUALIFIERS, STARTING WITH MISS [INAUDIBLE].
NEXT IS PATRICIA CRUZ ESCOBAR.
NOT HERE THIS EVENING, BUT WE DO WANT TO MENTION HIS NAME.
WE DO HAVE A STUDENT. MICHAEL REYES COULD NOT BE HERE THIS EVENING.
AND FINALLY, LINDSAY WOODWARD.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE, AFTER SPEAKING WITH MISS ADAMS, I APPEARS THAT ALL EIGHT OF THESE STUDENTS WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST, WHICH IS HELD AFTER SCHOOL IS OUT, ACTUALLY TAKES PLACE AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER.
SO WE WISH THEM ALL THE VERY BEST AND COME BACK WITH SUPERIOR RATINGS FROM STATE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, STUDENTS.
PARENTS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME UP AND TAKE SOME PICTURES, YOU CAN.
NEXT IS SOMETHING THAT IS ACTUALLY NEW TO ME.
I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THIS EXISTED UNTIL THIS YEAR, AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST LITTLE ELM STUDENT THAT WE'VE EVER HAD PARTICIPATE, WHICH IS THE TCDA, WHICH IS TEXAS CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION, ACTUALLY HAS A MIDDLE SCHOOL, JUNIOR HIGH ALL-STATE CHOIR.
THE CONVENTION IT MEETS AT THE ANNUAL CONVENTION IN SAN ANTONIO IN JULY.
BUT TONIGHT, ESPECIALLY, I WANT TO RECOGNIZE JULIA WILSON.
[00:25:02]
SO IF I CAN HAVE JULIA COME UP AT THIS TIME.SO JULIA IS VERY ACTIVE AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE ALWAYS HAS BEEN. SHE'S BEEN A MULTIPLE YEAR MEMBER OF THE ALL DISTRICT CHOIR.
SHE'S SOMEONE THAT YOU LOOK UP TO TO MAKE SURE THINGS GET DONE.
AND I WILL TELL YOU, EVEN MOST RECENTLY, JULIA SENT ME AN EMAIL.
I'M NOT TRYING TO EMBARRASS YOU.
SHE SENT ME AN EMAIL SAYING, MR. FELICE, YOU KNOW HOW ATHLETES GET RECOGNIZED FOR SIGNING DAY.
WE NEED TO HAVE A FINE ARTS SIGNING DAY.
WELL, YOU KNOW WHAT? WE'RE WORKING ON THAT.
SO I'M HOPING THAT NEXT YEAR WILL BE THE FIRST TIME WE WILL BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
JULIA AND I'M TELLING YOU, SHE'S JUST LIGHTING A FIRE UNDER ME ABOUT GETTING SOMETHING GOING WITH OUR FINE ARTS STUDENTS AND BEING RECOGNIZED FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE, THAT RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS AND SO ON IN OUR FINE ARTS.
AND NOT ONLY DID SHE MAKE THE ALL-STATE CHOIR IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, WHICH I WILL TELL YOU, STARTS WITH OVER 70,000 STUDENTS WHO START AUDITIONING AT THE REGION LEVEL. AND OUT OF 70,000 STUDENTS, 1800 MAKE AN ALL-STATE ENSEMBLE.
MAKE AN ALL-STATE GROUP OUT OF OVER 70,000 THAT START.
THAT'S WHY I CAME TO TEXAS AFTER I GRADUATED AND I WANTED TO WORK IN TEXAS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR CHOIR STUDENTS.
MOVING ON TO OUR LAST PORTION OF RECOGNITION.
I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE OUR DIRECTOR FOR ATHLETICS.
HE IS COMING TO THE PODIUM TO TALK ABOUT AN INCREDIBLE GROUP OF YOUNG LADIES THAT PARTICIPATED IN OUR STATE U-I-L BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR.
I HAVE MY BEAUTIFUL SECRETARY HERE, MISS ALMA RUTLEDGE, CAN HELP ME WITH THESE AWARDS.
WE'VE HAD SEVERAL INDIVIDUAL SPORTS THAT HAVE GONE ON TO BIG HONORS AND STAYED.
AND WE HAVE A COUPLE WRESTLERS THAT COULDN'T BE HERE TONIGHT THAT WE'RE GOING TO BRING NEXT MONTH.
THIS IS OUR FIRST TEAM SPORT TO KIND OF KICK THE DOOR IN.
WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM AND ALL THAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED.
I KNOW THEY WHAT A GREAT ENERGY THEY BROUGHT JUST TO OUR SCHOOL.
BUT OUR COMMUNITY, IF IT WASN'T FOR SOME BAD OFFICIATING, WE WOULD HAVE KEPT PLAYING TO.
I CAN SAY THAT NOW IT'S FAR ENOUGH AWAY.
IT'S WE'LL GET IN TROUBLE NOW, I DON'T THINK.
BUT WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM AND I WANT TO INTRODUCE THEM AND THE COACHES.
I FIRST I WANT TO START WITH OUR ASSISTANT HEAD COACH, MR. JAMES BLACK.
ARE NOW TWO TIMES IN A ROW DISTRICT COACH OF THE YEAR.
KEN TUTT. VOTED ON BY HIS PEERS.
IT'S A SPECIAL HONOR NOW FOR OUR YOUNG LADIES.
WE HAVE A COUPLE THAT COULDN'T BE HERE TONIGHT.
THE FIRST ONE I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE, SHE COULDN'T BE HERE.
[00:30:03]
THAT I THINK WILL BE THERE FOREVER.AND THAT'S THE ALL TIME LEADING SCORER.
LITTLE ELM HISTORY. I DON'T SEE THAT BEING BROKE FOR A LONG TIME.
ONE OF OUR OTHER SENIORS, AUBREY METZGER.
SHE'LL BE ATTENDING MILWAUKEE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TO PLAY BASKETBALL.
SOPHOMORE SHANIA JOHNSON AND FRESHMAN AZARIA WATTS.
AND I SAY THAT SHE MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT SCORING RECORD, TOO.
. AND OUR THIRD SENIOR THAT WILL BE ATTENDING OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE UNIVERSITY OR UNIVERSITY.
ARGUABLY, I WILL SAY THE BEST TEAM IN LITTLE ELM SPORTS ISD HISTORY.
WE'RE VERY PROUD OF ALL OF YOU.
GET THE TROPHY HERE. LET'S GET A PICTURE.
YOU KIND OF COME AROUND HAPPY.
PARENTS. ALL OF YOU GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR YOUR PARENTS.
PRESIDENT OLSON MR. LAMB. THAT WRAPS WRAPS UP.
WE WILL GIVE THE AUDIENCE AT THIS POINT IN TIME A LITTLE BREAK HERE.
UNLESS YOU WANT TO STAY FOR THIS ENTHRALLING AND THRILLING MEETING, YOU CAN.
EXIT STAGE LEFT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO AT THIS POINT IN TIME.
BUT OF COURSE, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO STAY.
ALL RIGHT. AS WE'RE FINISHING.
NEXT SEEING, WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GO TO THE REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.
[7. Reports of the Superintendent]
MR. LAMB. YES.MR. ROSS IS GOING TO CARRY ON FOR ME.
[00:35:01]
SUPERINTENDENT REPORTS.I'M GOING TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES AND COVER OUR DISTRICT WIDE INTRUDER AUDIT FINDINGS.
THIS WAS AN AUDIT THAT WAS CONDUCTED RECENTLY BY THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER.
I WILL TELL THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY CONDUCTING OUR THREE YEAR SAFETY AUDIT THAT THE STATE SAYS THAT WE HAVE TO CONDUCT.
I WANT THAT TO BE SAID SO THAT IT'S NOT CONFUSED WITH THIS.
THIS IS WITH TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER.
AND SO TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER CONDUCTS INTRUDER AUDITS AND THAT IS FOR US TO USE SO THAT WE SEE WHERE WE CAN GET BETTER. THAT WAS CONDUCTED AND AT ONE OR MORE OF OUR CAMPUSES, THE AUDIT TEST, WHETHER A CAMPUS IS ACCESSIBLE TO AN AUTHORIZED INDIVIDUAL. BEFORE I GO ANY FURTHER, THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER MENTIONS AND DOES DICTATE TO US TO LEAVE OUT IN AN OPEN FORUM AS THIS IS ANY DETAILS.
SO IT'LL BE IT'LL BE VAGUE, IT'LL BE GENERAL.
IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS AFTER THIS EVENING, YOU CAN EMAIL MR. LAMB AND WE'LL GET THOSE ANSWERED.
SO IN OUR AUDIT, THERE ARE THREE PHASES.
THE FIRST PHASE IS INTRUDER DETECTION.
THERE WERE NO CORRECTIVE ACTIONS FOR PHASE ONE.
PHASE TWO IS ABOUT OUR EXTERIOR DOORS AND ITS AUDIT.
WE DID HAVE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS IN ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES.
FOR THIS PHASE TWO, AGAIN, I WILL LEAVE OUT THE SPECIFICS OF THAT.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW, NUMBER ONE, IS THAT OUR STAFF ALL YEAR LONG HAS DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB OF SECURING EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR DOORS.
WE HAVE A WAY THAT WE DAY TO DAY MONITOR OUR ADULTS, CHECKING THE SECURITY OF OUR EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR DOORS ALONG WITH OUR SROS.
WE DID HAVE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS IN THAT AREA WHERE AN OUTSIDE DOOR WAS AJAR AND WE HAVE TAKEN IMMEDIATE ACTIONS, STARTING WITH TRAINING, RETRAINING OF THAT STAFF AT THAT PARTICULAR CAMPUS TO GO THROUGH CERTAIN STEPS SO THAT IS DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECKED AS STUDENTS MOVE IN AND OUT OR WHATEVER THAT SITUATION WAS.
WE HAVE ALREADY WE HANDLED IT IMMEDIATELY WITH THAT ADMINISTRATION ON.
THERE WAS A FACULTY MEETING WHERE EVERYBODY WAS RETRAINED FACE TO FACE.
NOW I AM TO PRESENT AN OPEN FORUM TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AS WELL AS ON THE 27TH.
SO WE HAVE DEFINITE STEPS IN PLACE AND TO HANDLE THIS.
AND SO ACCORDING TO TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER, ONCE WE HAVE THOSE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS NECESSARY, I AM TO PRESENT AN OPEN FORUM, MAKE YOU ALL AWARE. LIKE I SAID, IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, WE WILL GET THAT INFORMATION TO YOU.
WE HAVE ACTION STEPS IN PLACE.
WE'LL CONTINUE MONITORING THAT AND I WILL COMPILE ALL NECESSARY PAPERWORK AND SUBMIT THAT TO TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER REALLY QUICKLY AFTER THURSDAY, THE 27TH.
SO ANY QUESTIONS? I DO HAVE ONE, MR. ROSS. SO IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, I THINK LAST SUMMER WE TALKED ABOUT SOME SOFTWARE OR SOME MECHANISMS THAT WERE GOING TO TRIGGER AN ALARM OF SOME KIND WHEN A DOOR WAS LEFT AJAR.
I BELIEVE THE ADMINISTRATION AT THE SCHOOLS WERE GOING TO GET NOTIFIED, PERHAPS YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
IS THAT IN PLACE YET OR ARE WE STILL WORKING ON THAT? WE'RE STILL WORKING ON IT.
AND I'M GLAD YOU ASKED THAT QUESTION.
I MADE CONTACT WITH OUR COMPANY THIS MORNING BECAUSE I FELT LIKE THAT WAS GOING TO BE A QUESTION.
AND SO WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THAT INSTALLED.
[00:40:08]
FOG IN WHICH THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT, WE HAVE ONE OF THOSE READERS ON THIS DOOR.SO WE WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.
AND IT'S BEEN LONG, BUT WE'RE STILL WORKING ON IT.
I APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH. THANK YOU.
GO AND GO TO THE CONSTRUCTION AT BEIT MR. MARTIN. GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU TONIGHT.
THIS FIRST SHEET IS YOU'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE.
THIS IS OUR LISTING OF THE COMPLETED PROJECTS IN THE 2017 BOND.
SO WE MOVE ON ATTACHED TO YOUR AGENDA ITEM IN YOUR BOARD BOOK THERE WAS A DETAILED ACCOUNTING OF.
WHERE WE ARE FINANCIALLY WITH THE PROGRAM.
THIS IS JUST A QUICK SNAPSHOT.
AND THIS DOES INCLUDE A PROJECT THAT I'M GOING TO PRESENT TO YOU TONIGHT FOR APPROVAL.
SPEAKING OF THAT PROJECT, THE HIGH SCHOOL LOCKER ROOM CONVERSIONS.
LAST MONTH, YOU YOU ACCEPTED CORGAN AS THE ARCHITECT OF THIS JOB.
JACKSON CONSTRUCTION HAS GIVEN US A GMP.
I'LL BE PRESENTING THAT LATER THIS EVENING TO GET THIS CONVERSION PROJECT STARTED.
AND THAT WILL CONVERT SOME OF THE LOCKER ROOMS, FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL LOCKER ROOMS THAT HAVE MOVED OUT INTO THE INDOOR FACILITY GAVE US SOME SPACE.
WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO RECAPTURE THREE CTE CLASSROOMS AS WELL AS SHIFT SOME OF THE OTHER SPACES AROUND AND MAKE SOME OF THE OTHER ROOMS LARGER TO ACCOMMODATE MORE KIDS. RECENTLY COMPLETED.
IF YOU'VE BEEN BY STRIKE, YOU'VE NOTICED THAT NEW DRIVE.
SECOND DRIVE ACCESS OUT TO LEBANON HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
IT'S SIGNED OFF ON CITY ACCEPTED.
WE'RE GOOD TO GO. IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A GOOD ADDITION, ESPECIALLY WITH THE EMERGENCY ISSUES.
NEARING COMPLETION IS ZELLERS.
ALL OF THE PUNCH ITEMS INSIDE HAVE BEEN DONE.
THEY'RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON LANDSCAPING AND IRRIGATION OUTSIDE.
WE STARTED LOADING FURNITURE INTO THE BUILDING TODAY.
WE'RE NOW HAVE MOVED THIS WEEK.
WE'LL MOVE THAT STUFF OVER INTO THE CLASSROOMS, INTO THE SCHOOL, AND THE NEXT WEEK THE FURNITURE SUPPLIER WILL COME AND ACTUALLY OPEN IT AND SET IT UP FOR US IN THE CLASSROOMS. COUPLE OF PICTURES.
YOU WON'T SEE ANY PINK IN THE CORRIDORS ANYMORE.
THIS IS OUR NEW INDOOR PLAY AREA WITH THE LEGO WALL AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS GOING ON IN THERE.
THIS IS WHAT ONE OF THE NEW CLASSROOMS WILL LOOK LIKE.
THIS IS THE LAKESHORE LEARNING FURNITURE THAT WAS SELECTED.
A LOT OF STUFF IN THAT ROOM, A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON, BUT THEY CAN'T KEEP THEM BUSY IN THIS ROOM.
I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S GOING TO KEEP THEM BUSY.
OUTSIDE. THEY'RE FINISHING UP SOME THINGS.
WE HAVE NOW HAVE COVERED ENTRANCES AT EVERY ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING HAS A CANOPY COVER.
WE KNOW THE LITTLE ONES TAKE A LITTLE BIT LONGER TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE CARS.
AND SO WE FELT LIKE THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS NECESSARY.
WE HAVE NEW FENCING AROUND THE PLAYGROUNDS.
WHAT YOU SEE HERE IN THE LOWER RIGHT AND THE LOWER CENTER IS THE NEW PLAYGROUND AREA.
THAT EQUIPMENT IS ON THE WAY AND WILL BE INSTALLED.
WE'LL HAVE EVERYTHING SITUATED HERE, WE THINK, WITHIN THE NEXT THREE WEEKS.
OTHER ACTIVITY, THE WELDING SHOP EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT WE PUT IN OVER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
WE HAVE A COUPLE OF FIRE ITEMS THAT HAVE TO BE DONE.
THE FIRE MARSHAL HAS COME IN AND ASKED US TO DO A COUPLE OF EXTRA THINGS, SO WE'RE WORKING ON THAT.
BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS COMPLETE.
THEIR SAFETY AND SECURITY GRADE UPGRADES IS, AS ROSS MENTIONED, ARE UNDERGOING.
THE EXTERIOR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS, PLAYGROUNDS THAT'S UNDERWAY.
THESE ARE THE ITEMS THAT WERE APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC FOR US TO TO WORK ON.
AND THAT JUST RECALL WHAT WE ARE GETTING READY TO DO AND THE AMOUNT THAT WE HAVE TO SPEND.
[00:45:09]
SCHEDULE IS KIND OF HARD TO SEE.SO WE'RE TRYING TO GET THE EXPANSION TO THE HIGH SCHOOL, THE NEXT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND THE TWO MIDDLE SCHOOL ORCHESTRA EXPANSIONS UNDER DESIGN SO WE CAN KEEP THE SCHEDULE.
ANY QUESTIONS? QUESTION FROM BOARD MEMBERS.
THANK YOU, RICK. APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.
YOU BET. WE'LL NOW GO ON TO CITIZEN INPUT.
[8. Citizen Input]
FLORES, ANY CITIZEN INPUT ? AS A REMINDER, WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME, YOU WILL BE GIVEN FIVE MINUTES.ACTUALLY, NOW WE HAVE A NEW BRIGHT, SHINY TIMER BEHIND US, SO IT WILL GO OFF FOR FIVE MINUTES.
IT WILL GO DOWN. AND WHEN IT GETS TO THE THREE MINUTE MARK, IT GOES TO YELLOW.
AND THE ONE MINUTE MARK COMES UP, IT WILL GO TO RED.
SO PLEASE BE TIME ADHERENT OF THIS.
IT IS NOW RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR FIVE MINUTES COUNT COUNTDOWN INSTEAD OF ME TRYING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE TIME AND A WAVE SAYING YOUR TIME IS UP. SO THE FIRST ONE IS GOING TO BE MISS SHELLEY KIMMER.
HI, MY NAME IS SHELLEY KIMMER.
I'M THE MANAGER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA, AND I LOVE MY JOB.
FOUR OF THEM WENT TO LITTLE ELM FROM KINDERGARTEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
ALL FOUR GRADUATED IN THE TOP 10% OF THEIR CLASSES.
I HAD ONE WHO GRADUATED NUMBER EIGHT IN CLASS AND ONE THAT WAS SALUTATORIAN.
THEY ALL HAVE VERY SUCCESSFUL JOBS, INCLUDING I HAVE A DOCTOR.
I'M HERE TO PRESENT A PROBLEM.
I HOPE AND PRAY DOESN'T FALL ON DEAF EARS.
AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE SIX LINES THAT THE STUDENTS CAN GO THROUGH TO GET A MEAL.
TWO GRILL LINES AND TWO LOBO LINES, WHICH IS LIKE SALADS AND SANDWICHES AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
I'VE BEEN THE MANAGER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR TEN YEARS.
IN MY TEN YEARS, I HAVE NEVER HAD TO SHUT DOWN A SERVING LINE UNTIL THIS YEAR AND A HALF OF LAST YEAR, BECAUSE OF STAFF SHORTAGES.
WE HAVE ONLY OPENED UP FOR SERVING LINES ALL YEAR ON A DAILY BASIS.
WE SERVE ANYWHERE FROM 1200 TO 1300 STUDENTS.
LET ME BREAK THIS DOWN FOR YOU.
OUR PRODUCTIVITY OR WHAT MY STAFF PUTS OUT IN ONE DAY, 200 CHEESEBURGERS, 200 SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICHES, 50 REGULAR CHICKEN SANDWICHES, 190 SALADS OR 110 SANDWICHES.
WE ALTERNATE DAYS, 350 SMART MOUTHED PIZZAS AND 300 COOKIES BAKED FRESH EVERY DAY.
THESE NUMBERS DO NOT INCLUDE WHAT WE SERVE ON THE CAFE LINE.
I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT OUR FAMOUS NACHO DAY OR NOT.
IT IS BY FAR THEIR FAVORITE DAY.
WE MAKE 950 BOWLS OF CHIPS FOR THE NACHOS.
THE LAST STUDENT IN LINE IS SUPPOSED TO GET 20 MINUTES TO EAT THEIR LUNCH.
WE ARE LUCKY IF THEY GET FIVE MINUTES.
LAST TUESDAY ON NACHO DAY, I CLOCKED THE LAST PERSON WHO WENT THROUGH THE LUNCH LINE.
THEY HAD THREE MINUTES TO EAT BEFORE TIME TO GET TO CLASS.
WE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH PUSHING AND SHOVING.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES IS FRIENDS LETTING FRIENDS CUT IN LINE THAT CAUSES PROBLEMS. SOME OF THE UNSEEN PROBLEMS I'M HEARING ABOUT IS STUDENTS WHO WON'T STAND IN LINE BECAUSE IT CAUSES THEM TOO MUCH ANXIETY.
WE HAVE A LOT OF STUDENTS WHO GAVE UP ON THE LINES AND WON'T EAT AT ALL.
I REALIZED STAFF SHORTAGES ARE A PROBLEM FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING TEACHERS.
[00:50:04]
BUT I CAN'T SPEAK FOR THE TEACHERS.I AM SPEAKING FOR THE CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT.
IT'S NOT JUST THE HIGH SCHOOL.
IT'S THE JUNIOR HIGH, THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AS WELL.
WE HAVE SOME SUPER GREAT EMPLOYEES WORKING ABOVE AND BEYOND, COMING IN EARLY, LEAVING LATE JUST TO GET THE JOB DONE SO WE CAN FEED THE STUDENTS OUR OWN CHILD NUTRITION OFFICES, HELP COME AND WORK JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH EMPLOYEES.
I ALREADY KNOW OF THREE OF MY STAFF WHO ARE NOT COMING BACK NEXT YEAR.
ONE IS GOING TO DENTON AND THE OTHER IS GOING TO FRISCO.
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE THIRD ONE.
IT'S NO SECRET THAT OTHER SCHOOLS PAY MORE.
FRISCO STARTING PAY FOR CHILD NUTRITION WORKERS IS $14.50 AN HOUR PLUS YEARS OF SERVICE.
LITTLE ELM PROSPER IS $16 AN HOUR.
LITTLE ELM PAYS $11.48 AN HOUR.
MY LADIES ARE NOT LEAVING BECAUSE THEY WANT TO.
IT'S BECAUSE THEY NEED MORE MONEY.
I'VE HAD A FIVE HOUR AND A SIX HOUR POSITION OPEN ALL YEAR AND IT'S NEVER BEEN FILLED.
I'VE BEEN WORKING SHORTHANDED ANYWHERE FROM 4 TO 6 PEOPLE EVERY DAY.
I CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE NOT EVEN ONE EMPLOYEE.
ALL MY KIDS MAKE MORE MONEY THAN ME.
I AM VERY FEARFUL NEXT YEAR WHAT THE CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM LOOKS LIKE.
THANK YOU, MISS CAMARA. JULIA WILSON.
MY NAME IS JULIA WILSON AND I'M GOING TO ADD ON TO A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT MR. FRANK FOLEY SAID.
I AM A SENIOR AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL.
THIS FALL, I WILL BE ATTENDING THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA BOOMER SOONER, WHERE I WILL BE DOUBLE MAJORING IN VOCAL PERFORMANCE IN VOCAL MUSIC EDUCATION, AND I AM A RECIPIENT OF MULTIPLE VOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE UNIVERSITY.
IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT LITTLE ELM ISD HAS YET TO HOST A FINE ARTS SIGNING DAY.
I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS PROBABLY TOO LATE IN THE YEAR TO HOST ONE NOW.
HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT THIS YEAR WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT YEAR TO DO SO.
THE ONLY OTHER DEPARTMENT THAT GIVES OUT SCHOLARSHIPS OTHER THAN ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS IS MUSIC.
LEISD HAS HOSTED MULTIPLE SIGNING DAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR THESE ATHLETES.
SIMILARLY, THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC RECRUITMENT PROCESS IS VERY ALIKE.
LEISD FINE ARTS CULTIVATES SUCCESS.
FOR EXAMPLE, THIS FEBRUARY I WAS NAMED FIRST CHAIR SOPRANO IN THE TEXAS ALL-STATE CHOIR.
MANY OTHER FINE ARTS STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE PROCESS AS WELL.
THEY WERE THE STUDENTS WHO WENT UP HERE AND WAS RECOGNIZED.
THERE WAS ALSO A SIGNING DAY THIS WEDNESDAY FOR CHEER.
HOWEVER, FINE ARTS STUDENTS WERE OVERLOOKED AND EXCLUDED.
ELLA ISD PROMOTES EXCELLENT HIGHER EDUCATION.
HOWEVER, IT CAN QUITE BE DISCOURAGING WHEN STUDENTS SUCH AS MYSELF HAVE AUDITIONED AT MULTIPLE COLLEGES, RECEIVE THE MAJOR ACCEPTED TO STUDY WITH SPECIFIC FACULTY AND ACCEPTED TO JOIN THE FINE ARTS PROGRAM.
AS YOU CAN TELL, THE AMOUNT OF TIME AND EFFORT IT TAKES TO BE A FINE ARTS STUDENT.
[00:55:04]
IS THAT EQUAL, IF NOT ABOVE, WITH ATHLETES? WITH THIS BEING SAID, LITTLE ELM ISD SHOULD PROPOSE A FINE ARTS SIGNING DAY IN THE NEAR FUTURE.THANK YOU, MS. WILSON. MARIO KING.
[INAUDIBLE] GREETINGS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.
FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SERVICE.
I'VE BEEN IN THIS POSITION BEFORE.
AS A FORMER MAYOR OF A CITY IN MISSISSIPPI.
SHE WAS AFRAID TO RETURN BACK TO SCHOOL.
SHE HAS OVER A 4.0 GPA AND SHE'S VERY ENGAGED IN HER LOCAL CHURCH.
ONE OF THE ISSUES OF WHY SHE DIDN'T FIGHT BACK WAS THE POLICY BEING DEEMED MUTUAL COMEBACK.
I HAD A REALLY NICE CONVERSATION WITH THE SROS AND MR. LENSKI, WHO I THINK ARE EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD AT THEIR JOB AND REALLY JUST DO WELL.
SO I'M NOT HERE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM.
NEVERTHELESS, MY DAUGHTER IS BACK AT SCHOOL.
SHE'S BEEN HAD TO INTERFACE WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL.
AND SHE WAS ATTACKED ACTUALLY DURING LUNCH THE LAST TIME.
THEY'VE HAD TO DO A STAY AWAY AGREEMENT.
AND THIS IS STILL ESCALATING AND EXACERBATING AS TIME GOES ON.
NEVERTHELESS, THE INVESTIGATION HAVE BEEN CLOSED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT THE SROS ARE SHORT STAFFED WHERE THERE'S ONLY TWO OF THEM, AND THE DETECTIVE IS NO LONGER DOING THE INVESTIGATION. IT'S BEEN PUT ON THE SROS NOW, WHICH I RECEIVED A CALL LAST WEEK ABOUT.
MR. HOLLYFIELD IS ACTUALLY DOING THAT.
OFFICER HOLLYFIELD IS ACTUALLY DOING THAT INVESTIGATION WHICH HE SAID COULD TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS.
MY PROBLEM IS THAT I BELIEVE THAT NEITHER ONE OF THE STUDENTS MY DAUGHTER ARE THE YOUNG LADY, ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE AND I HAVE NEVER MET OR TALKED TO THIS YOUNG LADY, NO MATTER WHAT SHE'S BEEN THROUGH IN LIFE OR WHAT SHE'S GOING THROUGH IN LIFE, SHE STILL HAS OPPORTUNITY.
WHEN YOU HAVE MS. KENNER SOMEONE FROM THE LUNCH LADY COMING FROM THE LUNCHROOM, COMING IN TO DEFEND THE STUDENTS HAVING MORE THAN FOUR LINES.
WHEN I WENT TO MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL, WE HAD ONE LINE AND YOU HAD TWO CHOICES.
AND SO I'M JUST SO THANKFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY THAT THESE CHILDREN HAVE.
NEVERTHELESS, I DO THINK THAT FOUR WEEKS AFTER OUR MONTH, AFTER A STUDENT BEING INTRODUCED INTO A CORRECTIONAL PROCESS IS UNFAIR. AND I THINK IT'S THE TIME HAS PASSED AND THE ISSUES THAT HAVE EXACERBATED HAVE GONE AWAY.
SO I JUST WOULD LIKE THE BOARD TO MAYBE HELP US OUT AND EXPEDITE THIS PROCESS A LITTLE BIT MORE OR PUTTING A BETTER PROCESS IN PLACE TO HELP CHILDREN THAT ARE FIGHTING OR ARE ATTACKED OR NEED TO DEFEND THEMSELVES.
AND SO I WENT TO CHECK MY DAUGHTER OUT OF SCHOOL, OF COURSE, JUST OUT OF FEAR OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN.
THE LAST THING IS AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
I ALSO WITNESSED WHILE I WAS THERE SEVERAL LITTLE ELM HAVE SO MANY GREAT POLICIES, DRESS CODES THAT I'VE SEEN CHILDREN IN PAJAMAS, HOW SHOES, HALTER TOPS, THINGS THAT MIGHT BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR MEN TEACHERS TO SEE.
IT JUST MADE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE BEING THERE.
NEVERTHELESS, I ALSO WITNESSED A LEVEL OF INCLUSION AND THAT SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT I HAVEN'T SEEN IN ANY PLACE, I'VE SEEN A LEVEL OF OPPORTUNITY AND DEDICATION FROM STAFF THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN ANY PLACE, AND I AM PROUD TO PAY MY LITTLE $8,000, $9,000 OF TAXES THAT I PAY TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.
[01:00:02]
BUT THERE ARE SOME UNFORESEEN ISSUES THAT I THINK COULD BE EXACERBATED IF WE DON'T, YOU KNOW, FORCE ENFORCE THE POLICIES THAT ARE THERE BECAUSE YOU HAVE THEM AND MAYBE DO A BETTER JOB AT JUST LOOKING AT SOME OF THE WAYS THAT WE HANDLE THINGS LIKE THE THREE FIGHT RULE.BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MY DAUGHTER TOLD ME IS THAT ATHLETES, CHEERLEADERS AND STUDENTS THAT I SEEN TONIGHT, IF THEY'RE ENGAGED OR HAVE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, THAT THEY'RE TO BALL UP AND COVER THEIR FACE, WHICH I THINK IS JUST STILL INAPPROPRIATE.
AND. WELCOME, MR. LAMB, TO THE LITTLE ELM.
THANK YOU ALL. THANK YOU, MR. KING. DAN BLACKWOOD.
I KNOW IN MY PAST, IN THE SIX YEARS I WAS ON THE BOARD THERE.
SO THERE ARE SOME DEFINITE ITEMS THAT I FEEL THE BOARD NEEDS TO PAY ATTENTION TO.
AND IF YOU COULD PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR LEGISLATORS AND EITHER WORK FOR OR AGAINST THESE SEVERAL OF THE ITEMS THAT ARE OUT THERE THAT RIGHT NOW THAT I THINK PUNISH PUBLIC EDUCATION AND THE BOARD DEFINITELY NEEDS TO TALK ABOUT OR AGAINST THESE TO THEIR REPRESENTATIVES.
AND THOSE NEED TO BE TRY AND SHUT DOWN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
ONE ITEM THAT I THINK IS REALLY EXTREMELY PARTIZAN AND MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME IS SB 1515, WHICH IS A REQUIREMENT TO DISPLAY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN ALL PUBLIC CLASSROOMS, ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL CLASSROOMS. THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME.
BUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO POST THE POSTED SIGNS ALSO.
IT'S NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT, BUT IT DOES LEAVE A NEGATIVE CONNOTATION THAT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAPPENS, BUT IN CHARTER SCHOOLS AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IT DOESN'T BECAUSE THERE ARE GREAT PLACES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE HORRIBLE.
THIS IS THE BILL THAT THE LEGISLATORS TRIED TO PASS LAST, THREE SESSIONS THAT WOULD REMOVE ANY LOCAL, LET ME SAY ANY BAN ANY CITIES, COUNTIES, SCHOOL DISTRICTS OR LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES I'M SORRY, LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES FROM USING ANY STATE FUNDS OR PUBLIC FUNDS FOR TOWARDS LOBBYING OR BEING ABLE TO LOBBY THE THE STATE LEGISLATURE.
ESSENTIALLY WHAT THAT WOULD DO IS IT WOULD OUTLAW TASB EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL DISTRICT WOULD HAVE TO HIRE NO MATTER IF IT WAS THE BIGGEST SCHOOL DISTRICT OR THE SMALLEST SCHOOL DISTRICT. THEY WOULD HAVE TO HIRE THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE TO MONITOR THE ENTIRE STATE LEGISLATURE AND GO DOWN TO AUSTIN AND WORK WITH THE AND WORK WITH ALL THE LEGISLATURE INDIVIDUALLY FOR EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THAT'S REALLY COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE FOR NOT JUST LITTLE ELM.
SOME OF THE DISTRICTS THAT HAVE ONLY A COUPLE OF HUNDRED KIDS, THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO HIRE SOMEONE TO MONITOR THE STATE LEGISLATURE AND ALL THE LAWS THAT ARE BEING PASSED AND PRESENTED SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT I THINK THAT THE DISTRICT THAT ARE VERY GOOD AND SHOULD DEFINITELY THE BOARD SHOULD DEFINITELY PROMOTE WOULD BE SB 566.
THAT ALLOWS SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO OFFER TEMPORARY TEACHING CERTIFICATES TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED SERVICE MEMBERS OR FIRST RESPONDERS THAT ARE IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET THEIR PERMANENT TEACHING CERTIFICATE.
THAT WOULD HELP TREMENDOUSLY WITH TEACHER SHORTAGES AND STAFFING SHORTAGES.
ONE ITEM THAT I REALLY LOVE AND ENJOY IS I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO FULL DETAILS ON IT A LITTLE BIT SHORT ON TIME, BUT IS SB 245 ESSENTIALLY THIS IS KIND OF BEEN CALLED THE STUDENT DISCIPLINE OR STUDENT? STUDENT DISCIPLINE BILL OR IT PUTS STUDENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEMSELVES.
[01:05:03]
PUTS THAT PUTS A LOT OF AUTHORITY BACK IN THEIR HANDS.THE SHORT VERSION OF IT IS IT ALLOWS TEACHERS TO HAVE A DECISION AND TO SAY IN THE PROCESS ON WHETHER OR NOT A DISCIPLINARY PROBLEM STUDENT GETS PLACED BACK IN THEIR CLASSROOM AFTER THEY'VE BEEN REMOVED.
IT GIVES THE TEACHER A VOICE WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM TEACHERS FOR MANY YEARS.
SO SB 4245 PERSONALLY, I THINK IS PROBABLY THE THIRD MOST POWERFUL BILL THAT WE NEED TO GO FOR.
OBVIOUSLY AGAINST WOULD BE ANY VOUCHER IS A TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.
ALSO ANYTHING GO AGAINST SENATE BILL 175 AND THEN THE SB 566 4656 AND 245 TO PUT THE POWERS BACK IN AND THE OR GIVE THE POWER BACK TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND TO THE TEACHERS.
HI, GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS TERRY GOOCH AND I JUST WANT TO START WITH, YOU KNOW, THIS EVENING'S ACTIVITIES OF THE KIDS BEING COMMENDED AND SEEING THE PROGRAMS THAT HAS ELEVATED SOME OF THESE FROM THE YOUNGEST TO TO YOUR SENIORS TO THE SPORTS PROGRAMS. OBVIOUSLY, THERE'S SOME REALLY NICE FOUNDATIONAL THINGS GOING ON HERE.
AND WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT, I GUESS IT WAS, IS SOMETHING THAT'S ACROSS THE BOARD THAT'S HAPPENING IN SO MANY SCHOOL DISTRICTS WHERE PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE BEING ACCEPTED INTO SCHOOLS AND ACTUALLY, IN SOME WAYS HIDDEN FROM PARENTS.
WHAT PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WANT IS IT'S REALLY SIMPLE.
IT'S A QUALITY EDUCATION IN MATH, SCIENCE, HISTORY, READING.
THAT'S WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME.
WE WANT THEIR INNOCENCE PROTECTED.
I SEE THESE LITTLE KIDS COME UP HERE.
I HAVE A SIX YEAR OLD GRANDSON, AND HE MEANS THE WORLD TO ME, YOU KNOW? AND WHEN I THINK OF THE THOUGHTS OF SOME OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN SOME OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS, IT'S TERRIFYING.
AND PARENTS ARE SCRATCHING THEIR HEAD LIKE, WHY IS THIS STUFF GOING ON? YOU KNOW, AND JUST JUST TO QUICKLY GO THROUGH THIS, SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS I HAD HEARD ABOUT AND I WENT AND ACTUALLY ATTENDED SOME OF THE BOARD MEETINGS IN FRISCO AND DENTON.
THIS BEING DONE AND WHEN CONFRONTED, THEY STALL THE OUTRIGHT LIE.
THEN A PARENT GOT UP AND READ ONE OF THEIR BOOKS IN THEIR LIBRARY.
I MEAN, IT WAS IT SICKENED YOU? IT SICKENED YOU FOR LIKE THE TOTAL ADULT, LET ALONE TO HAVE THIS AVAILABLE.
AND I SEE THESE YOUNG FOLKS TO SEE THEM MAYBE AS THEY ONE WAS TALKED ABOUT, WANDERING AROUND THE LIBRARY TO GET HIS HANDS ON SOMETHING LIKE THAT WOULD BE HORRIFIC RATHER THAN THE GOOD LITERATURE, THE GOOD BOOKS, THE SOLID THINGS.
UM, ONE BOARD THEY MET SECRETIVELY.
THIS WAS IN FRISCO. IT I THINK IT HIT THE NEWS AND IT WAS VIDEOTAPED.
THAT THESE FOLKS ARE REFERRING TO THEM AS AND THESE.
I KNEW IT WAS GOING ON, BUT I COULDN'T BELIEVE THE CONTENT, YOU KNOW? SO I'M HERE TONIGHT ENCOURAGING, PLEADING WITH THIS BOARD TO DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THESE.
SOMETIMES IT SEEMS LIKE SMALL BUT VERY VOCAL AND WELL FUNDED GROUPS THAT COME IN AND AND GOING AFTER THESE SCHOOL BOARDS AND PUSHING THIS STUFF TO THE SCHOOLS TO GET INTO THESE STUDENTS HEARTS AND MINDS, IT'S LIKE, GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO BE KIDS.
SO ANYWAYS, AND I HAVE HEARD BETTER THINGS ABOUT LITTLE ELM.
I REALLY HAVE. AND I THANK YOU FOR THAT.
AND I JUST, YOU KNOW, THE PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS.
[01:10:02]
WE WANT TO PARTNER WITH YOU.WE'LL DO A LOT OF STUFF IF WE FEEL LIKE WE CAN REALLY TRUST WHAT'S GOING ON WITH OUR KIDS.
THANK YOU, MR. GOOCH. WE'LL NOW GO ON TO THE APPROVAL OF MINUTES.
[9. Approval of Minutes]
WE'LL GO TO ACTION ITEM A CONSIDER REGULAR MEETING MINUTES FROM MARCH 27TH, 2023.HOPEFULLY EVERYONE'S HAD TIME TO READ THROUGH THE MINUTES.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED? SO I GOT TO MOVE FROM MONIQUE TO HAVE A SECOND.
ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MR. FLORES WAS ABSENT.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MEETINGS FROM MARCH 20TH? I HAVE ONE FOR MARY. DO I HAVE A SECOND? SECOND, SECOND FROM DAVID.
ANYONE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
SO WE WILL GO ON TO AS I MAKE MY NOTES.
I'M SORRY. GO ON TO THE ACTION ITEMS.
[10. Action Items]
FIRST ONE IS CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE 2023 2024 FTE REQUEST FOR DISTRICT NEEDS.MISS BROWN. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT OLSON MR LAM, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THOSE 15 OF THOSE FTES WOULD BE TEACHER FTES.
ADDITIONALLY, THAT FINAL FTE WOULD BE FOR A NEW POSITION THAT WOULD BE HOUSED HERE IN THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, WHICH WOULD BE DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTABILITY THAT WOULD FALL ON OUR ADMINISTRATOR PROFESSIONAL PAY GRADE LEVEL SIX, AND IT WOULD BE AT 226 DAYS.
AND AS WE LOOK TOWARDS NEXT YEAR AND LOOK AT POSSIBLY CHANGING UP SOME SCHEDULING ITEMS AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, WE WOULD NEED TO HAVE ADDITIONAL FTES FOR TEACHER POSITIONS AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL.
THIS DOES COME WITH A PRICE TAG.
OF COURSE, IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,030,000.
MS. ADAMS AND THE BUSINESS SERVICES TEAM HAVE WORKED THAT INTO THE BUDGET AND THAT WAS PART OF THE PRESENTATION THAT WE SPOKE ABOUT EARLIER TODAY IN THE BUDGET WORKSHOP PRIOR TO THE MEETING.
SO DO I HAVE A SECOND? SECOND. DO I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? HOW MANY OF THESE FIGHTS ARE LEFT OVER FROM LAST YEAR WHERE WE DIDN'T FILL THEM BECAUSE OF EITHER STUDENT ENROLLMENT OR HOW MANY OF THEM ARE VERSUS HOW MANY ARE NEW? ALL 16 OF THESE ARE WOULD BE BRAND NEW.
THESE NONE OF THESE ARE CARRIED OVER FROM THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU, MISS BROWN.
WELL, I'LL GO ON TO THE CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE LOCKER ROOM CONVERSIONS AT MR MARTIN.
AS YOU SO ELOQUENTLY TOLD US EARLIER, YOU WOULD BE BACK.
SAY AGAIN? I SAID YOU TOLD US YOU'D BE BACK.
AND THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME COME BACK.
THIS IS THE LOCKER ROOM CONVERSION, WHICH I SHOWED YOU A FLOOR PLAN OF IT EARLIER.
CREATES A NEW WRESTLING VENUE IN AN OLD LOCKER SPACE.
IT ALSO GIVES US THREE CTE CLASSROOMS IN OLD LOCKER SPACE, AND WE'RE ABLE TO EXPAND SOME OF THE OTHER LOCKER ROOMS FOR VARSITY SQUAD SECTIONS AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FOLKS THAT WE HAVE BECAUSE WE DID MOVE SO MANY OUT INTO THE INDOOR.
AND I WOULD SAY THAT WE RECOMMEND THE APPROVAL OF THIS PROJECT BUDGET AS PRESENTED AND AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ANY REQUIRED CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE? FOR MARY. DO I HAVE A SECOND? AGAIN. DO I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? GOING ONCE. GOING TWICE.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
[01:15:02]
THANK YOU, MR. MARTIN. WE'LL LEAVE YOU UP HERE TO GO AHEAD AND GO OVER THE CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE PARKING LOT.THIS IS OVER AT HACKBERRY, WHERE A COUPLE OF THE LIGHT STANDARDS IN THE PARKING LOT HAVE ACTUALLY FALLEN OVER BECAUSE OF DETERIORATION OF THE BASE OF THE FIXTURE.
THERE IS A AN ALTERNATE IN THERE.
SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THAT PROJECT WITH THE FUNDS THAT THAT ARE SHOWN.
THE ADMINISTRATION THEREFORE RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THIS PROJECT AND BUDGET AS PRESENTED AND AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ANY REQUIRED CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE? DO I HAVE A SECOND? FROM ALEX.
ANY QUESTIONS? SO WE'VE USED THAT SAME.
ARCHITECTURE, RIGHT, OF THAT BUILDING FOR TWO OTHER SCHOOLS.
DO WE RUN THE RISK OF HAVING THAT SAME ISSUE WITH LIGHTING IN OTHER CAMPUSES? [INAUDIBLE], THAT'S WHY THEY'RE LOOKING AT HIM.
THIS IS THE WORST CASE PLACING.
THIS IS REPLACING ALL EXISTING POLLS.
THE ADDITIONAL THAT WAS IN THERE IS IF WE HAVE TO ADJUST THE BASE BOLTS FOR THE NEW ONES.
RIGHT. WE'RE REUSING THE SAME HEADS.
OKAY. IF YOU REMEMBER, THIS IS PART OF THE SPC UPGRADE THAT WE DID A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.
SO THOSE LIGHT FIXTURES THEMSELVES ARE STILL GOOD.
IT'S JUST THE BASE SUPPORT, BASE BOLTS.
I'M ASSUMING THAT IS THE PROPOSAL, CORRECT? OKAY. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE AND THIS IS ONLY FOR THE REPLACEMENT AT ONE SITE, RIGHT? CORRECT. IT'S BEING EVALUATED NOW.
YES. DO I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. MARTIN.
UM. RFQS AND RFPS WERE ISSUED OUT TO THE PUBLIC ALONG WITH SCOPES.
WE HAD SEVERAL RESPONDENT ON BOTH GROUPS.
THE COMMITTEE MET AND REVIEWED ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO US.
WE CAME UP WITH THREE CM AT RISK, TWO OF WHICH YOU ALREADY KNOW.
BALFOUR BEATTY AND JACKSON CONSTRUCTION BOTH HAVE BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL, DONE GOOD JOBS FOR US.
CORE IS PROBABLY IN SIZE BETWEEN THOSE TWO, WHICH GIVES US A GOOD.
A GOOD, MID-SIZED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY ON THE JOCK SIDE.
ALPHA, WE DIDN'T GET TO DO A WHOLE LOT WITH OUR LAST PROGRAM, BUT ALPHA BUILDING CORPORATION WAS ONE THAT THE COMMITTEE APPROVED ALONG WITH BIG SKY CONSTRUCTION, AND THEY ARE THE ONES THAT DID THE A LOT OF INTERIOR STUFF FOR US AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL AS THE DRIVE OVER AT STRIKE.
AND THE SFC IS KIND OF A FIXTURE AROUND HERE.
THEY DO A LOT OF STUFF FOR US.
SO WITH THAT SAID, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THESE CARS AND THE JOCKS FOR USE IN THE 2022 BOND PROGRAM AS PRESENTED, AND AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ANY REQUIRED CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS?
[01:20:02]
SO MOVE FOR MARY.DO YOU HAVE A SECOND? SECOND FOR MONIQUE.
ANY QUESTIONS? I DO HAVE A QUESTION. JUST I HAD A REPUTATION.
HASN'T HAD ISSUE WITH CONCRETE STUFF IN THE PAST.
I THOUGHT THEY WERE INVOLVED IN THE ALLEN STADIUM.
WELL, THEN MY NEXT QUESTION WAS, WERE THEY INVOLVED WITH PRESTWICK AT ALL WITH THE FOUNDATION STUFF? NO. OKAY.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? SO I HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES.
HE GETS THE WHOLE MEETING. GOSH, I.
YOU REALIZE THAT UNTIL RIGHT NOW, I THOUGHT IT WAS OUT EXTRA THIS MORNING SO I COULD STAND.
MR. ROBERTS IS AUTHOR OF THIS PROGRAM.
SO I WILL LOOK TO HIM TO ANSWER ANY DETAILED QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE.
BUT BASICALLY, THIS IS A WEAPONS DETECTION SYSTEM THAT LOOKS LIKE.
THEY CAN DETECT A HANDGUN IN A BACKPACK AND A HOLSTER IN ANYTHING THAT COMES THROUGH THEM, NOT JUST METAL, BUT IT IS WEAPONS.
IS THAT CORRECT? I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE DENSITY OF THE METAL ITSELF.
BUT THIS WOULD PUT THEM AT EVERY CAMPUS, MULTIPLE STATIONS AT EVERY CAMPUS.
MORE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND MUCH MORE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
AND THIS COST ALSO, THE NUMBER THAT WE'RE PRESENTING TO YOU IS $760,000.
THAT ALSO INCLUDES A SMALL CONTINGENCY.
AND THIS IS BEING PAID OUT OF THE PHASE ONE, THE 2022 BOND FUNDS.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE? SO MOVED. MONIQUE FIRST.
ANY QUESTIONS? SO YOU SAID MULTIPLE DOORS, RIGHT? ESPECIALLY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS.
RIGHT. ARE WE GOING TO BE ABLE TO COVER ALL THE DOORS AT THOSE FACILITIES? NOW, THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.
SO WE'RE LOOKING AT 12 GROUPS OR 12 UNITS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
SIX AT SIX FOR EACH MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THEN THREE PAIR AT ELEMENTARY.
BUT THERE IS AND NOT GOING INTO A LOT OF DETAILS, THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE, MEANING THEY CAN PICK UP AND THEY CAN MOVE IN ALL DIFFERENT EXITS AND ENTRANCES DAILY, HOURLY, WHATEVER, SO THAT NOBODY KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE THEY'RE GOING TO BE.
AND SO WE CAN COVER, YOU KNOW, A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF AREAS.
SO IF AN INDIVIDUAL HAS A GUN IN THEIR GUN, IN THEIR BACKPACK AND THEY LIFT IT OVER THEIR HEAD, WELL, IT'S STILL DETECTED OR YES, THESE THESE ARE UNITS THAT IF YOU KNOW AND I NOTICED IT THE OTHER NIGHT IN WATCHING, I BELIEVE, THE DALLAS MAVERICKS.
SO ANYTHING THAT YOU SEE GOES OFF LIKE AT TSA OR AN AIRPORT.
SO KEYS, CELL PHONES, THINGS LIKE THAT, IT WON'T TRIGGER, BUT THE MAKEUP OF WEAPONS WILL TRIGGER THESE BECAUSE THEY'RE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.
AND SO IT WILL TRIGGER THEM EVEN IF THEY PUT THEM UP OVER THEIR HEAD.
PLUS, WE ALREADY HAVE PROCEDURES IN PLACE THAT ONCE THEY'RE IN PLACE, WE WILL HAVE PEOPLE KIND OF MONITORING THOSE AREAS TO WATCH BECAUSE IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS, WE HAVE TO RESPOND.
THANK YOU. I WAS GOING TO SAY, IS THE ALERT SYSTEM ALARMS GOING OFF OR IS IT THE ALERT SYSTEM MORE A NOTIFICATION SYSTEM? IT'S BOTH.
OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? A MOTION IN A SECOND. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES.
CONSIDER THE APPROVED APPROVAL OF THE SECURITY FILM.
[01:25:01]
VERY SUCCESSFUL.SO THIS WILL COMPLETELY SECURE GLASS AREAS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.
AND THIS, AGAIN, IS FOR ALL THE CAMPUSES THAT WE HAVE.
THE BUDGET FOR THIS PROJECT IS 715,000, WHICH AGAIN INCLUDES A SMALL CONTINGENCY FOR MAYBE WINDOW SYSTEMS OR WINDOWS LOCATIONS THAT GOT MISSED IN THE COUNT. SO WE'D BE ABLE TO TAKE THIS.
AGAIN, THIS COMES OUT OF THE PHASE ONE OF THE 2022 BOND FUNDS.
ATTACHED TO YOUR AGENDA ITEM IS THE BACKUP AND PROPOSAL FOR THIS FILM AS WELL.
THEREFORE, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THIS PROJECT BUDGET AS PRESENTED AND TO AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ANY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS. DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE? SO MOVED. MARY, DO I HAVE A SECOND? DAVID, ANY QUESTIONS? MY QUESTION IS, SO IN ADDITION TO THIS IMPROVEMENT THAT WE'RE DOING AND THE DETECTORS, THE WEAPONS DETECTORS, SO FOR ANY FUTURE CAMPUSES THAT WE HAVE COMING UP MORE IN THE BOND PACKAGE, ALL THIS THAT WILL ALREADY BE INCLUDED IN THAT SCOPE OF CONSTRUCTION SO THAT IT'S NOT ADD ONS AFTER THE FACT.
YES. MY QUESTION WAS, IS THE TIMELINE FOR OVER THE SUMMER TIME OR.
I'M JUST WONDERING IF THEY'RE GOING TO BE DOING THIS WORK DURING THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR OR ON CAMPUSES WHEN STUDENTS ARE THERE? AS PERSISTENT AS THE COMPANY HAS BEEN, I THINK THEY'RE WAITING FOR APPROVAL TONIGHT, AND I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO TRY TO GET GOING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
UM, LIKE RICK JUST SAID, COULD BE THE ACCESSIBILITY OF MATERIAL.
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THE NUMBER OF DISTRICTS THAT THEY'RE WORKING WITH.
HOPEFULLY, I THINK THEY HAVE A GOOD MAJORITY OF THE MATERIAL TO START AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
IT MIGHT HAVE TO MOVE INTO THE SUMMER BECAUSE WE'RE DOING WHAT THEY REFER TO AS ZONE THREE, WHICH IS REALLY KIND OF THE INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOMS AND THINGS LIKE THAT IN WINDOWS.
SO WE'LL BE WORKING WITH THEM TO SEE IF IT GOES INTO THE SUMMER.
THEY'LL COME IN THE EVENING, LIKE RICK JUST SAID.
HIGH LEVEL TYPE STUFF AND NOW MOVING INSIDE CLASSROOMS AND.
OKAY. WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES.
THANK YOU, MR. MARTIN. THANK YOU, MR. ROBERTS. WE'LL NOW MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.
[11. Consent Agenda]
DOES ANY BOARD MEMBER HAVE ANY ITEM NEEDS TO BE PULLED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA? IF NOT, THEN DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE CONSENT AGENDA AS IS? SO MOVED BY DAVID.DO I HAVE A SECOND? SECOND FROM ALEX.
DO WE HAVE ANY? WELL, DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS BECAUSE NOTHING WAS PULLED.
SO ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
WE WILL NOW GO ON TO THE BOARD REPORT FROM MYSELF.
[12. Board Report]
SO THIS IS OUR ANNUAL REPORT WHERE WE WILL TALK ABOUT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BOARD MEMBERS.SO I DO HAVE A REPORT HERE THAT I'M JUST GOING TO READ OFF FOR EACH BOARD MEMBER.
I NO ACTION PER SE ON THIS ITEM, JUST READING THIS OUT.
DR. MONIQUE THOMPSON HAS COMPLETED ALL OF HER REQUIRED HOURS.
MISS MARY WATKINS HAS COMPLETED ALL OF HER HOURS.
MYSELF, MR. KEN BEBER AND MR. DAVID MONTEMAYOR HAVE ALL COMPLETED ALL OF OUR TRAINING EXCEPT THE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY, WHICH I DO WANT TO MAKE A NOTE THAT ACTUALLY WE DO HAVE THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR TO COMPLETE.
SO WE ARE NOT COMPLETE AS OF RIGHT NOW, WHICH IS WHEN WE HAVE TO DO OUR REPORT IN APRIL.
BUT THE THREE OF US DO HAVE UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR TO COMPLETE THAT.
SO WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL OF OUR TRAINING.
MR DELEON ENGLISH IS MISSING THE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, ACCOUNTABILITY AND MR. ALEJANDRO FLORES IS MISSING THE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AND THE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY.
SO WITH THAT, WE'LL GO ONTO BOARD.
[13. Board President Comments]
PRESIDENT COMMENTS.JUST LIKE TO THANK EVERYBODY ONCE AGAIN FOR COMING OUT TONIGHT.
THANK STAFF, AS USUAL, FOR THE GREAT PRESENTATIONS, THE GREAT WORK.
SO I WANT TO THANK STAFF AND EVERYONE FOR DOING THAT AND ALL YOUR HARD WORK.
[01:30:02]
OTHER THAN THAT, I KNOW FOR THE BOARD, IT'S KIND OF WEIRD.I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU ALL, LIKE, IN THREE WEEKS.
SO WEIRD. NICE TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN.
WE'RE SEEING EACH OTHER FOR SO MANY TIMES, BUT I KNOW WE HAVE A BUNCH OF EVENTS COMING UP.
I KNOW WE'VE GOT THE TOP TEN LUNCH, WHICH IS ALWAYS FUN.
WE'VE GOT A LOT OF OTHER ACTIVITIES AROUND THE COMMUNITY THAT ARE GOING ON, SO LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE OUT AT THOSE AND APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S TIME AND DONATION TO THAT. OTHER THAN THAT, I WILL START ON MY.
IF YOU HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO MRS. FLORES ON WHICH REGISTRATION OPENS TOMORROW PLEASE TONIGHT SEND MRS. FLORES MESSAGE WHETHER YOU WILL WANT TO BE SIGNING UP FOR SLI FOR THE SUMMER.
YOU NEED HER TO REGISTER YOU FOR SLI.
OKAY, NOW. THAT'S IT. NOW WE'LL START TO MY LEFT AND GO WITH MR.
[14. Board Comments]
FLORES. YEAH. WELL, I WANT TO FORMALLY WELCOME MR. LAMB. I WAS NOT HERE WHEN WE OFFICIALLY VOTED YOU IN, AND I JUST WANTED TO TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO WELCOME YOU AND THANK YOU FOR ACCEPTING THE JOB.I KNOW. I WANT TO THANK MRS. ADAMS AS WELL FOR STEPPING IN DURING THAT PERIOD.
I'M SURE SHE'S MORE EXCITED THAN THAN ALL OF US.
BUT THANK YOU AGAIN FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE SO FAR.
I ALSO WANT TO WELCOME MR. LAMB. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY.
SHEA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GUIDING US WHEN WE WERE GOING OFF TRACK.
YOU WANT TO WORK WITH OUR CAFETERIA PEOPLE, PLEASE COME.
ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE ALL OF OUR MUSIC STUDENTS AND OUR BASKETBALL TEAM, OUR LADIES BASKETBALL TEAM, AS WELL AS WE HAVE A MEMBER OF OUR GOLF TEAM WHO IS COMPETING OUTSIDE OF DISTRICT THIS YEAR.
I ALSO WANT TO ENCOURAGE ALL OF OUR PARENTS.
WE HAD A SPEAKER COMMENT ABOUT PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS GETTING INVOLVED.
I PROMISE YOU, IF YOU REACH OUT TO YOUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL, THERE ARE PTAS, THERE ARE BOOSTER CLUBS, THERE ARE ALL SORTS OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT NEED PARENTS TO STEP UP AND STEP INTO LEADERSHIP ROLES ON YOUR CAMPUS.
CAMPUSES THAT HAVE HIGH RATES OF PARENT INVOLVEMENT.
STATISTICALLY HAVE HIGHER TEST SCORES.
ONE OF THE BEST THINGS PARENTS CAN DO FOR THEIR KIDS IS TO GET INVOLVED.
SO PLEASE CONSIDER TAKING ON A LEADERSHIP ROLE AT YOUR KID'S SCHOOL.
DR. THOMPSON. I MOVE MY MICROPHONE RIGHT HERE? YES, I GOT A THUMBS UP.
SO I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE HARD WORK OF OUR STUDENTS AND STATE THAT TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE TOWN COUNCIL MEETING, THE MATHLETES WHO EARNED FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PLACE FOR PRE-K THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY OUR MAYOR.
AND I WANT TO REMIND ALL OUR LITTLE ELM ISD STUDENTS TO KEEP PRACTICING THEIR MATH 15 MINUTES A DAY.
DR. THOMPSON WOULD JUST APPRECIATE THAT.
BUT I ALSO WANT TO MENTION TO OUR TEACHERS THAT THERE IS A BILL GOING THROUGH THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE RIGHT NOW, THE TEACHER BILL OF RIGHTS, THAT WOULD PROVIDE OUR TEACHERS WITH MORE MONEY, DEPENDING ON THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SIZE.
THERE'S APPARENTLY A PROPOSAL FOR EVEN MORE MONEY FOR SMALLER DISTRICTS, AND THAT WOULD INCREASE ACCESS TO CHILD CARE FOR TEACHERS WHO HAVE PRE-K STUDENTS TO GET FREE PRE-K ACCESS IN THEIR DISTRICT.
SO I JUST WANT TO MENTION TO BE ON THE WATCH FOR THAT PARTICULAR SENATE BILL, AND I AM EXCITED TO HOPEFULLY SEE THAT ONE IN PARTICULAR GO THROUGH MR MONTEMAYOR I ALSO JUST WANT TO START OFF BY WELCOMING MR. LAMB TO THE FIRST FULL MEETING, THANKING EVERYONE FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.
ALSO TO EXPAND ON WHAT MS. WATKINS SAID.
SO BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THAT, WILL DETERMINE WHETHER HE GOES ON TO STATE.
SO WE'RE WISHING HIM LUCK ON THAT.
BUT I ALSO WANTED TO CONGRATULATE OUR BAND AND COLOR GUARD.
YOU KNOW, UIL SOLO ENSEMBLES, THEY ALL DID VERY WELL IN SEVERAL CONCERTS.
THEY'VE GOTTEN SWEEPSTAKES ON THE BAND SIDE.
AND OF COURSE, OUR COLOR GUARD ADVANCED ON TO WORLDS.
AGAIN, THEY DO SO YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR AND SHOW A GREAT LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE THERE.
AND I'M SURE I'M MISSING A LOT OF OTHER GREAT THINGS, BUT IT'S FUN TO HEAR.
[01:35:04]
MR. KEN I JUST WANTED TO SAY WELCOME, MR. LAMB ONCE AGAIN, IT'S TRULY AN HONOR FOR YOU TO BE IN YOUR THIRD WEEK HERE AND US GETTING GOING WITH YOU.I WANT TO WISH EVERYBODY GOOD LUCK IN THE STAR TESTING THAT'S COMING UP THIS WEEK.
IT WAS GREAT SEEING ALL THOSE KIDS COME OUT AND ALL THE ENERGY THEY HAVE.
HOPEFULLY THEY GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP.
SO GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE FOLKS THIS WEEK.
IT IS MY PLEASURE AND HONOR TO ALLOW MR.
[15. Superintendent Comments]
LAMB TO HAVE HIS FIRST OF MANY SUPERINTENDENT COMMENTS.FORGIVE ME. MY ALLERGIES ARE ACTING UP, BUT ALL I CAN SAY IS, WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING NIGHT.
AMAZING KIDS, AMAZING COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND SECURITY.
AND I'M SO THRILLED THAT YOU LET ME JOIN THE FAMILY.
AND IT'S A VERY EXCITING NIGHT.
SHE DID SAY SHE HOPED I SCREWED UP A LOT TONIGHT SO Y'ALL WOULD PUT HER BACK HERE.
WE'LL ARM WRESTLE FOR IT LATER, BUT THANK YOU.
AND GREAT KIDS, GREAT PEOPLE JUST MAGNIFIED TONIGHT.
SO I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT BEING HERE AND ALL THE GREAT THINGS WE'RE GOING TO GO FORWARD AND DO.
THANK YOU, SIR. APPRECIATE IT.
WHEN I GET MY VOICE BACK, I'LL SING SONGS.
I WISH THE CHOIR LADY WOULD HAVE SUNG WITH ME.
ALL RIGHT. WITH THAT, DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ADJOURN? SO MOVED. I HEARD DAVID FIRST.
ALL RIGHT. I'M GOING WITH MARY, DAVID, THEN.
MARY. DO I? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, RAISE YOUR HAND.
WE WILL OFFICIALLY CLOSE AT 8:40 P.M.
