SHE'S GOING TO SHARE WITH US SOME OF THE AWARDS FROM HER DEPARTMENT FOR OUR DISTRICT.

>> HELLO EVERYONE. PRESIDENT OLSON, MS. ADAMS, THANKS FOR HAVING ME HERE THIS EVENING AND TALKING TO YOU ABOUT THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT.

EVERY FEBRUARY, OUR TEAM TRAVELS TO WHEREVER ARE CONFERENCES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND WE GATHER WITH 800 OF OUR COLLEAGUES ACROSS THE STATE AND WE CELEBRATE THE WORK WE DO, WE LEARN FROM EACH OTHER.

TSPRA STANDS FOR TEXAS SCHOOL PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSOCIATION.

EVERY YEAR, WE LEARN THINGS, BUT WE ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR THE GREAT WORK THAT WE DO.

BRANDON AND I WERE PRESENTERS AT OUR OWN CONFERENCE AND WE TALKED TO THEM ABOUT OUR DESTINATION WEBSITE, AND IT WAS STANDING ROOM ONLY.

A LOT OF PEOPLE STAYED BACK AND SAID THIS WAS A GREAT PRESENTATION, OUR SUPERINTENDENT WANTS US TO MOVE IN THIS DIRECTION, HOW DID YOU DO THIS? BUT WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT REALLY IS THE STAR AWARDS.

YOU SUBMIT YOUR WORK AND YOU'RE RECOGNIZED FOR THE GREAT WORK YOU DO.

AT OUR STAR AWARDS, THOSE THAT RECEIVE A GOLD STAR ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE BEST OF CATEGORY.

BRANDON BUCKNER AT THE STAR AWARDS WON BEST OF CATEGORY FOR HIS ORIGINAL WEB DESIGN FOR THE DESTINATION DISTRICT WEBSITE.

BEFORE I BRING HIM UP HERE, I ALSO WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE GOLDSTAR THAT HE RECEIVED FOR DESIGNING THE ACADEMIC DISTRICT CALENDAR AND THE SILVER AWARD THAT HE WON FOR CAPTURING THIS PHOTO AT A FOOTBALL GAME.

ROUD IS NOT HERE TONIGHT, BUT HE ALSO RECEIVED A GOLD AWARD FOR THE STORY THAT HE DID ON ELI WHEN WE HAD OUR FIRST 633 RUN.

THAT WAS A REMARKABLE STORY.

SINCE 2015, THE DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED SIX BEST OF CATEGORIES.

WE'VE RECEIVED 33 GOLD STARS, 17 SILVER, AND 2 BRONZE.

WE'RE AN AWARD-WINNING DEPARTMENT.

I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE A GREAT TEAM.

WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO BRING HOME THE GOLD, CONTINUE TO BRING HOME THE BEST OF CATEGORY.

BUT AT THIS TIME, BRANDON, CAN YOU PLEASE COME TO THE FRONT SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU.

I WORK WITH A REALLY GREAT TEAM.

HE IS GOING TO TELL US ABOUT OUR WINNERS THIS YEAR FROM THE ONGOING COMPETITION BETWEEN OUR SCHOOLS IN THE TRIVIA CONTEST THAT THE LIBRARY FRIENDS HOST ANNUALLY. MR. BLACKWOOD.

BASICALLY, THE REASON I'M HERE TONIGHT IS SAME REASON I WAS HERE LAST YEAR TO PRESENT THIS YEAR'S WINNER OF THE FRIENDS LITTLE ELM LIBRARY ANNUAL TRIVIA NIGHT CAMPUS CUP WINNERS.

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR THAT WE'VE AWARDED THIS TROPHY.

THE TROPHY IS DESIGNED OR WAS PUT TOGETHER TO GO TO THE HIGHEST SCORING TEAM REPRESENTING ONE OF THE LAISD CAMPUSES/FACILITIES.

THIS YEAR WE HAD FIVE TEAMS COMPETING.

WE HAD TEAMS REPRESENTING LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY, LAST YEAR'S WINNER, OAK POINT ELEMENTARY, CHAVEZ, THE HIGH-SCHOOL, AND OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

BUT BEFORE WE PRESENT THE WINNING TEAM, THERE'S A COUPLE OF ADDITIONAL THANK YOUS THAT WE DO OWE TO FOLKS HERE.

FIRST, I LIKE TO EXTEND A VERY GRACIOUS GRATITUDE AND THANK YOU TO PRESIDENT OLSON, WHO DID VOLUNTEER TO BE MC THIS YEAR FOR US.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.

SECOND, WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THANK YOUS TO THE ENTIRE BOARD FOR SPONSORING A TABLE AT THE EVENT TONIGHT AND PARTICIPATING IN THE EVENT YOURSELVES.

ADDITIONALLY, WE'D LIKE TO THANK THE BOARD FOR BEING THE HIGH BIDDER ON OUR LIVE AUCTION ITEM WITH THE WINNING BID FOR $600.

I'M NOT GOING TO MENTION WHAT THE ITEM WAS, BUT YOU GUYS DID WIN.

[LAUGHTER] IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE DID RECEIVE A MEMBERSHIP THAT EVENING OR ACTUALLY, I THINK THE NEXT EVENING, A MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FROM TRUSTEE MONTEMAYOR.

AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO CHALLENGE THE REMAINING MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, AND I'LL HAND THIS TO MS. MORRES FOR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS.

FOR THE REMAINING TRUSTEES, IF YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE FRIENDS, WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT TREMENDOUSLY.

WE'LL HAVE THOSE PASSED OUT. PAYMENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TONIGHT, BUT AS SOON AS YOU GUYS GET AROUND TO IT, WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

SHE WAS ACTUALLY JAMMING ON THE SPOT FOR US AT NIGHT AT THE END OF THE EVENT, ALL OF OUR MEMBERS WERE VERY BUSY DOING OTHER THINGS.

WE REALIZE THAT WE DIDN'T GET ANYONE TO TAKE PICTURES OF US AWARDING THE TROPHIES.

HOWEVER, TRUSTEE WATKINS WAS THERE AND GOT THE PICTURES FOR US AND FORWARDED THEM OVER TO US.

THANKS TO HER, WE HAVE PICTURES OF US AWARDING THE TROPHIES.

FINALLY, RECOGNITION THIS YEAR'S WINNING TEAM WAS ACTUALLY FROM THE HIGH-SCHOOL.

IF THAT TEAM COULD, THOSE REPRESENTATIVES ARE HERE TONIGHT, PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY UP FRONT.

[APPLAUSE] AGAIN, THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR.

THE REASON WE PUT THE CUP TOGETHER WAS TO TRY AND GET MORE PARTICIPATION FROM CAMPUSES IN THE DISTRICT.

A LOT OF YOU FOLKS KNOW SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE MAY NOT REALIZE IS THE FRIENDS LIBRARY AND THE LITTLE ELM ISD HAVE A VERY LONG RUNNING HISTORY OF WORKING WITH EACH OTHER SO MUCH.

THE FRIENDS LIBRARY ACTUALLY STARTED THE FIRST PUBLIC LIBRARY IN LITTLE ELM RIGHT HERE IN THIS BUILDING MANY YEARS AGO.

WHEN THIS WAS STILL THE HIGH SCHOOL, WE OPENED IT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY.

THREE MEMBERS OF THE FRIENDS PUT IT TOGETHER, AND SINCE THEN THE RELATIONSHIP HAS CONTINUED TO BLOSSOM.

IN THE FUTURE, ANY TEAM THAT DECIDES TO PARTICIPATE IN TRIVIA NIGHT REPRESENTING A DISTRICT, IF THEY WIN, THEY GET THE HOST THIS WONDERFUL CUP AND BRAG ABOUT IT ON THEIR CAMPUS FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.

FOR THE NEXT YEAR, THE HIGH-SCHOOL WILL BE ABLE TO HOST THE CUP.

TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF MEMBERS WHO INVEST EXCESSIVE TIME AND ENERGY DO IT BECAUSE THEY WANT STUDENTS TO HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE AS THEY LEARN.

OUR DISTRICT IS FULL OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS.

AND FOR THOSE EXCEPTIONAL LOBO FAMILY MEMBERS, THE SUPERINTENDENT RECOGNIZES THE CHAMPIONS FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH THE TRIPLE E AWARD, WHICH SYMBOLIZES THOSE WHO GO WELL ABOVE AND BEYOND TO EQUIP, ENGAGE, AND EMPOWER.

BY DESIGN IS VERY INTENTIONAL DESIGN IS RARE THAT WE PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE ADMINISTRATORS WITH AWARDS, AND THE RECIPIENT OF TONIGHT'S AWARD WOULD WHETHER WE KEEP IT THAT WAY.

BUT THERE ARE TIMES FOR EXCEPTIONS AND TONIGHT I'M IN A UNIQUE POSITION TO DECLARE SUCH AN EXCEPTION. SO I AM.

OUR HONOREE PREFERS TO DO THEIR WORK BEHIND THE CURTAIN, PLANNING, ORCHESTRATING, TROUBLESHOOTING, AND RESPONDING TO SUPPORT THE EXCEPTIONAL WORK OF OUR TEACHERS AND WHAT THEY DO WITH OUR AMAZING STUDENTS EACH DAY.

HE UNDERSTANDS THAT GREAT TEACHERS REQUIRE GREAT LEADERS AND HE DEDICATES ALL HE HAS TO DEVELOP STRONG CAMPUS LEADERS WHILE PUSHING ALL OF US TO BE BETTER VERSIONS OF OURSELVES TOMORROW THAN WE ARE TODAY.

EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO GROW IS A CORE ELEMENT OF HIS WORK IN CURRICULUM, ATHLETICS, LEADERSHIP, COUNSELING, SAFETY, OR ANY OTHER ASPECT.

IF RAWLS ROBERTS IS INVOLVED, YOU CAN BET THAT HIS MISSION IS CLEAR AND HIS MISSION HIS KIDS.

[APPLAUSE] [LAUGHTER] SINCE RETURNING TO THE DISTRICT IN 2021, IT HAS BEEN MY PLEASURE TO WORK WITH SUCH A HIGH PERFORMING EXECUTIVE TEAM, INCLUDING THIS INDIVIDUAL WHO IS SO PURPOSEFUL AND STRATEGIC TO ENGAGE OUR CAMPUS LEADERS AND DEPARTMENTS.

I RESPECT HOW FIERCELY HE PROTECTS OUR PRINCIPLES, TIME AND ADVOCATES FOR THE DEPARTMENTS IN WHICH HE LEAVES, AND THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE HERE THAT REPORT TO RAWLS DON'T KNOW WHAT HE FIERCELY PROTECTS YOUR TIME, WHERE THEY'RE COLLABORATING WITH MR. MILLER ON A UNIQUE AND OUTSTANDING SAFETY RE-UNIFICATION TRAINING, ARE HOSTING OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN OUR CLASS PROGRAM, ARE PLANNING ENRICHED ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP OUR SYSTEM PRINCIPLES.

HE ALWAYS FOCUSES ON PROVIDING SUPERIOR STUDENT EXPERIENCES AND SAFETY.

I'VE WITNESSED HIS FOCUS DURING NOT SO FAVORABLE SITUATIONS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION.

IT'S IMPRESSIVE HOW HE CONSIDERS FACTORS FROM A 360 DEGREE ANGLE AND PERSPECTIVE BEFORE QUICKLY MOVING FORWARD TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION AT HAND.

ROSS ROBERTS WEAVES THEIR STRATEGIC PLAN AND MISSION INTO OUR DAILY MEETINGS INTERACTIONS.

HE'S KNOWN TO BE QUITE DIRECT, BUT ALWAYS PROFESSIONAL BECAUSE HE UNDERSTANDS THAT HOLDING THE LINE WITH DIRECT AND HONEST FEEDBACK IS THE BEST PATH TO IMPROVEMENT.

HIS EXPECTATIONS OF HIMSELF ARE HIGH AND HE IS VERY QUICK TO DIVERT ANY RECOGNITION TO THOSE HE WORKS WITH.

BUT A TRUE LEADER DOESN'T CREATE FOLLOWERS, THEY CREATE MORE LEADERS, AND ROSS DOES JUST THAT.

I WANT TO SHARE A COUPLE OF WORDS FROM SOME OF THOSE LEADERS COREY WERTH SHARED AS A PRINCIPAL, I ALWAYS KNOW I DEPEND ON MR. ROBERTS FOR ANYTHING I NEED, WHETHER IT'S TO SEEK ADVICE, BRAINSTORM IDEAS, OR SIMPLY TO LONDON HERE.

HE REGULARLY MAKES HIMSELF AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT THE PRINCIPLES AND HOWEVER NEEDED.

MR. ROBERTS IS A SERVANT LEADER AND ALWAYS PUTS KIDS FIRST AND EACH DECISION THAT HE MAKE.

WE'RE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM AND APPRECIATE HIS GUIDANCE, SUPPORT, AND A PLETHORA OF EXPERIENCE THAT HE PROVIDES TO US EACH DAY.

MR. BILL BUSH TOLD ME, ROSS HAS BEEN A GREAT SUPPORT FOR SECONDARY PRINCIPLES SINCE HE STARTED WITH THE DISTRICT.

HE HAS BEEN GREAT WITH PROVIDING US NECESSARY TRAINING AND HE'S A GREAT LISTENER WHEN WE HAVE PROBLEMS. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY HANDS-ON IN A GOOD WAY.

HE IS NOT AN EMAIL AWAY.

HE IS AT OUR CAMPUSES READY TO PITCH IN WHEREVER IT IS NEEDED.

HE'S ALL ABOUT GROWTH FOR ALL OF US.

PERSONALLY, HE HAS PUSHED ME TO BE A BETTER LEADER AND I WOULD NOT BE WHERE I AM TODAY WITHOUT ROSS GUIDANCE.

HE EXPECTS A LOT OF US, BUT HE HAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US TO GET TO THAT LEVEL AS WELL.

WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE ROSS AS A LEADER.

ROSS JOINED THE FAMILY IN 2015 AND HE LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

BUT HE IS ALSO AN INCREDIBLY PROUD DAD.

HIS WIFE CHRISTIE AND DAUGHTER MACY ARE HERE TONIGHT AND NOW YOU KNOW WHY.

THEY HAD A PILOT YEAR AND IF YOUR DISTRICT CHOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT, YOU PAID THE FEE AND THEN THERE WERE TESTING REQUIREMENTS PUT ON STUDENTS LIKE EIGHT ADDITIONAL TESTS IN ADDITION TO ALL THE OTHER ASSESSMENTS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN.

MANY DISTRICTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND ESPECIALLY ACROSS TEXAS,

AS WE LOOK AT RIGOR IN OUR COURSEWORK AND THE HIGHEST EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS, WE HAVE REVISITED THAT COLLEGE BOARD CRITERIA FOR PRE-AP AND HAVE DECIDED THAT THE MOST RIGOROUS OPTION FOR OUR STUDENTS WOULD BE TO BRING BACK THE PRE-AP.

YOU'LL SEE THE CORRELATION UP THERE, I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE COLLEGE BOARD DID DO AWAY WITH PRE-AP PRE-CALCULUS AND INSTEAD, THEY HAVE SAID AP PRE-CALCULUS.

IS THAT EQUIVALENT? THAT'S WHY YOU SEE THAT UP THERE LIKE THAT.

WE FELT LIKE WE NEED TO DIFFERENTIATE HONORS AND GIVE STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEMONSTRATE MORE RIGOROUS COGNITIVE THINKING IN THOSE HONORS CLASSES, AND SO WE WILL BE HAVING A CAPSTONE PROJECT REQUIREMENT FOR THAT, AND WE WILL BE ALIGNING THOSE COURSES TO THE PRE -AP SHARED PRINCIPLES.

DOING A LITTLE BIT OF REVAMPING, KEEPING THE HONORS COURSES BUT REVAMPING THEM AND THEY WILL BE MORE ALIGNED TO THE PRE-AP PRINCIPLES AND RIGOR.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE DATA, OUR DATA SHOWS THAT THESE STUDENTS WHO ARE ON A TREMENDOUSLY ACCELERATED PATH IN THEIR YOUNGER YEARS, RIGHT WHEN THEY'RE TRANSITIONING TO A SECONDARY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, THEY ARE NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MATH AT THEIR SENIOR YEAR.

WE'RE ACTUALLY SEEING THAT SOME OF OUR BRIGHTEST STUDENTS, ARE HAVING A GAP YEAR BETWEEN THEIR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE.

JUNIOR, THEN MAYBE EARLY RELEASE OR WHATEVER THEY'RE CHOOSING, AND THEN COLLEGE.

THE INTENT, I THINK OF ADVANCING MATHS SO RAPIDLY WAS FOR THEM TO TAKE THE MOST RIGOROUS MATH.

WE ALSO LOOKED VERY CAREFULLY AT OUR DATA.

WE HAVE PRACTICES AND TRADITIONS IN PLACE AND THINGS COME ABOUT AND WE THINK THIS IS WHAT'S BEST FOR KIDS.

BUT GOOD PRACTICE IS TO LOOK AT PROGRAMMING LONGITUDINALLY TO SAY, WHAT IS THIS SHOWING US ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR STUDENTS? THESE ARE OUR BRIGHTEST STUDENTS, OR STUDENTS WHO MEET THE CRITERIA AND CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE PROGRAMS. THE NUMBER 1 DISADVANTAGE WAS WHEN THEY COMPLETED SIXTH GRADE MATH, THERE IS NO TEACHER FOR THAT.

THAT IS AN INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSE.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE DISCUSSION OR IN-DEPTH PROCESSING, IT WAS LITERALLY A COMPLETION.

THEY WORKED THROUGH THE COURSE ASYNCHRONOUSLY.

THERE WAS A TUTOR AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, BUT MAYBE NOT AT THE TIME THEY NEEDED IT WHEN THEY WERE WORKING IN THE COURSE.

THEY DID NOT TAKE SIXTH GRADE STAR BECAUSE THEY TOOK IT BEFORE THEY ENTERED SIXTH GRADE.

THE SECOND STRONGEST COMMENT THAT STUDENTS MADE WAS THAT AT SIXTH GRADE, AT THAT AGE, WHEN THEY ARE ENTERING THEIR SECONDARY CAREER, THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND FULLY HOW THE HIGH-SCHOOL GRADING SYSTEM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL WOULD AFFECT THEIR CURRENT GPA.

NUMBER 3, AND SOMETHING I THINK IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT IS THEY COMMENTED THAT IT WAS VERY STRESSFUL WORKLOAD AND PACE FOR THEM.

I WILL SAY, I'M GOING TO SHOW WHERE WE ARE WITH HOW WE HAVE REALIGNED OUR MATH.

WE ARE STILL COMPACTING MATH AND SO I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND.

WE'RE JUST NOT DOING IT WHEN THEY ENTER SECONDARY AT SIXTH GRADE.

THEY WILL COMPLETE ALL OF SIXTH GRADE IN ONE SEMESTER.

JUST TWO MONTHS AGO, A ROOM FULL OF TEACHER SAT IN THIS VERY ROOM AND WHEN THE DATA WAS SHOWN ON HOW OUR TEACHERS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORTED A FOUR-DAY SCHEDULE, THIS ROOM HAD A HUGE BURST OF LAUGHTER.

WHY? IS IT SOMEHOW AMUSING TO OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ARE TEACHERS SUPPORTED THIS? EVERYONE THAT LAUGH, DO YOU HAVE SOME DEMENTED IDEA THAT OUR TEACHERS JUST WANTED TO BE LAZY AND WORK LESS, WHEN A BOARD MEMBER WHO ACTUALLY PROPOSE THIS IDEA.

IN FALL OF 2021, FALL IS ALWAYS THERE AREN'T AS MANY FALL GRADUATES AS THERE ARE SPRING GRADUATES.

FALL IS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE A LOWER NUMBER OF STUDENT TEACHERS THAN SPRING.

BUT SO FALL 2021, WE HAD FIVE STUDENT TEACHERS AND THAT'S SEMESTER WE HIRED THREE OF THEM, SO OVER 50%.

IN SPRING 2022, WE HAD 20 STUDENT TEACHERS.

WE HIRED A QUARTER OF THEM, FIVE OF THEM.

IN FALL 2022, WE HAD FOUR AND WE HIRED TWO, SO AGAIN RIGHT AT 50%.

THEN RIGHT NOW, IN OUR CAMPUSES ACROSS THE DISTRICT, WE HAVE 21 STUDENT TEACHERS AND WE HOPE TO HIRE AT LEAST A QUARTER OF THEM.

THE REASON WHY I WANTED TO TELL YOU THIS DATA IS BECAUSE STUDENT TEACHERS HAVING THEM IN OUR DISTRICT IS A REALLY ROBUST RECRUITING TOOL.

WE WANT TO HAVE AS MANY STUDENT TEACHERS IN OUR CLASSROOMS. WHY? THEY LEARN ABOUT OUR DISTRICTS, THEY GET ACCLIMATED TO CAMPUSES.

THEY GET TO KNOW STAFFS.

THEY GET TO REALLY BE ATTACHED TO US AND SO WHEN YOU HAVE STUDENT TEACHERS IN YOUR DISTRICT, YOU'RE ALWAYS THEIR NUMBER 1 CHOICE.

THEY ONLY USUALLY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF THEY HAVEN'T BEEN OFFERED A POSITION OR IF A POSITION IS OFFERED TO THEM QUICKER IN ANOTHER DISTRICT, WE REALLY WANT TO HAVE AS MANY STUDENT TEACHERS AS POSSIBLE TO THAT END.

TO HAVE STUDENT TEACHERS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE COOPERATING TEACHERS.

COOPERATING TEACHERS, ALSO COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS CTS, ARE FOLKS THAT THEY'RE THE TEACHER, THE CLASSROOM TEACHER OF RECORD, WHO BASICALLY TAKES THE STUDENT TEACHER UNDER THEIR WING, TEACHES THEM EVERYTHING THEY NEED TO KNOW, TEACHES ABOUT LESSON PLANNING, PLCS, ALL THE CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS OF THE CAMPUS EXPECTATIONS.

WORKS WITH THEM ONCE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, IT REALLY REQUIRES A LOT OF ADDITIONAL EFFORT AND TIME, AND ENERGY TO BE A QUALITY COOPERATING TEACHER.

REALLY THERE'S NO INCENTIVE TO BE COOPERATING TEACHER OTHER THAN YOU WANT TO INFLUENCE AND HELP NEW EDUCATORS.

WE WOULD LIKE TO INCENTIVIZE A LITTLE BIT.

WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A CARE THAT WE'D LIKE TO DANGLE OUT THERE FOR FOLKS TO BE A COOPERATING TEACHER AND THAT IS OFFERING THIS BONUS DAY OF LEAVE.

THIS BONUS DAY OF LEAVE WOULD BE FOR COOPERATING TEACHERS AFTER THE CRITERIA DETAILED IN THE GUIDELINES IS MET, WHICH THE GUIDELINES WERE INCLUDED AS PART OF OUR BOARD BOOK.

THIS WILL BE AT NO COST TO THE DISTRICT BECAUSE THE STUDENT TEACHER WOULD SERVE AS THE SUBSTITUTE IN THAT CLASSROOM FOR THE COOPERATING TEACHER WHO GETS TO HAVE A BONUS DAY.

YOU WILL NOTE THOUGH, THAT FOR THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR THERE WOULD BE A MINIMAL COST, ONLY THE YEAR NOT GOING FORWARD AND THE REASON WHY IS BECAUSE IF IT'S APPROVED, WE'D LIKE TO EXTEND THIS BONUS LEAVE INCENTIVE TO EVERYONE WHO IS A COOPERATING TEACHER THIS PAST FALL, FALL OF 2022.

WE WOULD WANT TO OFFER THIS INCENTIVE TO THOSE FOLKS AS WELL.

ALSO, IT JUST REALLY IN SOME WAY REWARDS OUR CURRENT STAFF WHO ARE TAKING ON THAT ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITY, EXPENDING EXTRA EFFORT AND ENERGY TO REALLY NURTURE AND MENTOR THESE NEW EDUCATORS.

WE SIGNED A CONTRACT BACK IN 2018, WHICH WAS A FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH AN OPTION OF A FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION TO THAT INITIAL CONTRACT.

WE HAVE DONE SOME RENEGOTIATION WITH GOLDSTAR.

ONE OF OUR BIGGEST NEGOTIATED ITEMS, OF COURSE, WAS PRICE INCREASE.

THEIR CONTRACT ALLOWS THEM TO HAVE PRICE INCREASES BASED ON THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX OF THE DALLAS-FORT WORTH AREA.

TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA, LAST YEAR THAT CPI WAS 9%.

THEY WERE ABLE TO RAISE THEIR RATES BY 9%.

WE'VE NEGOTIATED THAT TO NOW BE A MAXIMUM OF SIX.

THEY CANNOT GO OVER 6% IN THAT.

WE'VE ALSO TAKEN OUT A COUPLE OF OTHER ITEMS THAT WE FELT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE DISTRICT TO DO THAT, AND GOLDSTAR WAS AGREEABLE TO THAT.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHANGES, OF COURSE, IS THEIR DAILY RATE.

OUR INITIAL CONTRACT CALLED FOR A FOUR-HOUR DAY.

OUR ROUTES TO BE FOUR HOURS, TWO HOURS IN THE MORNING, TWO HOURS IN THE AFTERNOON, WHICH AFTER THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR WASN'T A REALITY.

OUR BUS ROUTES BECAME SIX-HOUR ROUTES.

WE WERE HAVING A SIX-HOUR DAY AND PAYING OVERTIME FOR THAT.

WE RENEGOTIATED THAT RATE TO NOW BE A SIX-HOUR DAY INSTEAD OF A FOUR-HOUR DAY WITH TWO HOURS OF OVERTIME.

THAT RATE IS REFLECTED IN THE PROPOSAL THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR BOARD PACKET.

LOOKING AT THAT, THAT CHANGES OUR DAILY RATE EXPONENTIALLY.

WE'VE ALSO GONE THROUGH AND LOOKED AT OUR MILEAGE RATES AND THINGS LIKE THAT AND SO WE'VE NEGOTIATED THOSE OUT OF THE CONTRACT AS WELL.

BUT THAT IS OUR BIGGEST CHANGE THERE.

BUT THE INITIAL DAILY RATE INCREASED BY 5% THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE CPI THAT'S ALLOWABLE IN THEIR CONTRACT.

BUT AGAIN, FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, OUR MAXIMUM WILL BE A SIX, MINIMUM OF THREE.

WITH THAT IN MIND, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT FOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES WITH GOLDSTAR TRANSIT AS SUBMITTED FOR A FIVE-YEAR PERIOD.

THIS WILL BE THEIR FINAL ASPECT OF THIS CONTRACT.

WHEN WE LOOK AT IT AGAIN IN FIVE YEARS, WE WILL HAVE TO REBID THE WHOLE PROGRAM.

ALSO KEEPING IN MIND THAT WE ALSO AS A DISTRICT, HAVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW ON A YEARLY BASIS IF WE FIND THEIR SERVICES UNSATISFACTORY.

IT'S NICE BEING BACK ON THOSE CAMPUSES AGAIN AND GETTING THE PRESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT AROUND THE CAMPUSES AND WHATNOT. THAT WAS FUN.

THEN ALSO, MS. MONIQUE, HAVING ME OUT AT THE MATH CHALLENGE WAS A GREAT TIME TO SEE NOT ONLY OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT ALSO FRISCO ISD INVOLVED IN THAT AND THEN THAT COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER IT DEFINITELY SUMS UP FAMILY ENVIRONMENT, NOT ONLY IN LIVE ALONE, BUT IN THE OUTER LINE COMMUNITIES AS WELL.

I HAD A GREAT TIME WITH THE KIDS.

I WAS I THINK HAVING MORE FUN.

I'LL GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO MY WIFE.

SHE HAD TO USE A CALCULATOR QUITE A BIT.

SHE HAS TO WORK ON HER 15 MINUTES A DAY.

THANK YOU BOARD FOR ATTENDING THE BUDGET WORKSHOP EARLIER, I HAVE SEEN HOW MANY HOURS YOU'VE PUT IN IN THE LAST MONTH AND I KNOW THAT TWO OF THE BIGGEST THINGS THAT YOU DO AS A BOARD MEMBER AND YOU LEARN THIS VERY QUICKLY AS HIGHER SUPERINTENDENT AND ADOPT A BUDGET AND TAX RATE.
