WE HAVE HAD QUITE THE BUSY HIRING SEASON THIS PAST SPRING.
SO FIRST, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR BRAND NEW DIRECTOR FOR CHILD NUTRITION, KENDRA VOGT.
KENDRA, YOU'LL COME UP. A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT MISS VOGT.
SHE HAS BEEN EMPLOYED WITH LITTLE ELM ISD AND OUR CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT SINCE 2015.
SHE HAS SERVED WITH US AS THE CHILD NUTRITION HUMAN RESOURCES SUPERVISOR, THE CHILD NUTRITION HUMAN RESOURCES COORDINATOR, AND THEN MOST RECENTLY AS THE CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES ASSISTANT DIRECTOR.
VOGT POSSESSES, SHE'S THOROUGHLY PREPARED AT ALL TIMES.
SHE'S HELPFUL, WILLING TO FIND ANSWERS TO PROBLEMS. SHE'S KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT LITTLE ELM ISD PROCESSES BECAUSE OF HER TIME SPENT HERE IN THE DISTRICT.
SHE IS A PROUD GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS, WHERE SHE EARNED A BS IN MARKETING.
MS.. VOGT PERSONALLY HAS SOME VERY INTERESTING FACTS AS WELL.
SHE SAYS THAT HER FAVORITE TEAM AND SPORT TO WATCH IS FOOTBALL.
FAVORITE TEAMS ARE A TIE BETWEEN THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS AND LSU TIGERS.
SO SHE'S DEFINITELY A LOUISIANA NATIVE THROUGH AND THROUGH.
HER IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS ARE HER HUSBAND, GEORGE, SON BRANDON AND DAUGHTER MONICA.
IF ANY OF HER FAMILY MEMBERS ARE PRESENT, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO STAND SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU.
NOT TONIGHT. AND THEN WE ASKED HER IF SHE COLLECTS ANYTHING.
BUT SHE SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE IN A DUET OR A GROUP.
SHE'S NOT GOING TO DO THAT SOLO.
A LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT KENDRA.
SHE WAS IN A CAR COMMERCIAL IN NEW ORLEANS.
HER DAD WAS FILMING THE COMMERCIAL AND HE NEEDED AN EXTRA CHILD TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT.
SO KENDRA WAS THE STAR OF THAT CAR COMMERCIAL.
WE ARE SUPER THRILLED TO HAVE MS..
VOGT ADVANCE INTO THIS NEW POSITION AND THE CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT AND FOR THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE EXPERIENCE AND THE WEALTH OF EXPERTISE THAT SHE'S GOING TO BRING TO THAT POSITION. SO NOW, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, WE'LL ASK MS..

WHEN HE WAS A HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, HE WAS AWARDED SECONDARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR AND GOING BACK TO HIS TEACHING CAREER, HE WAS A TEACHER, A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER OF WORLD GEOGRAPHY, LIFE, SCIENCE AND US HISTORY.

HE WORKED IN COPPELL ISD FOR SEVEN YEARS THERE.
PRIOR TO THAT, HE SPENT SOME TIME IN DENTON ISD AS WELL AS LUBBOCK ISD.

SO WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE BUSH FAMILY.
WHEN WE ASKED WHAT HIS HOBBIES ARE, HE LIKES TO RUN AND PLAY GUITAR AND SPEND TIME WITH HIS FAMILY.
[00:10:03]
HIS FAVORITE TEAM OR SPORT TO WATCH? GUESS. TEXAS TECH, RED RAIDERS, ALL SPORTS.HE DOESN'T CARE EVEN IF IT'S GOLF OR FISHING.
HE'S WATCHING THEM. HIS PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT HAPPENED JUST RECENTLY.
SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, AND WE'D LOVE FOR MR. BUSH TO ADDRESS YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
PRESIDENT OLSON SCHOOL BOARD, MR. GALLAGHER. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.
NINE YEARS IN LITTLE ELM PREPARED ME FOR THIS POSITION RIGHT HERE.
SO CAN'T ASK, CAN'T THINK ANY AS I CAN'T THINK OF A BETTER WAY TO THANK Y'ALL THAN TO BE ABLE TO BE UP HERE AND BE ABLE TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE AND MY COMMITMENT TO YOU FOR ALL THE WORK THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO AT STRIKE.
WE'VE GOT A GREAT YEAR AHEAD OF US, AND IT'S GOING TO BE A WONDERFUL YEAR AT STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
MS.. THOMAS MUNDAY IS A GRADUATE OF THE BEST UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
THAT WOULD BE UT AUSTIN AND WHERE SHE EARNED A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PSYCHOLOGY.
WE ARE AGAIN REALLY PROUD TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE FROM WITHIN.
MS. THOMAS MUNDAY HAS BEEN A LOBO SINCE 2007.
15 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO LITTLE ELM ISD.
SHE'S BEEN EVERYTHING FROM A SUMMER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO AN THE EVENING ACADEMY COORDINATOR.
SHE'S BEEN A TEACHER HERE, AS WELL AS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR SIX YEARS.
SHE WAS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
THOMAS MUNDAY BRINGS TO THE TABLE.
SHE'S VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT WORKING WITH OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE IN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMS. SHE PLACES AN EMPHASIS ON POST-SECONDARY READINESS, AND SHE KNOWS THAT THAT LOOKS DIFFERENT FOR DIFFERENT KIDS.
THOMAS MONS IMMEDIATE FAMILY, HER WIFE, KAREN, SHE HAS A DAUGHTER OR TWO DAUGHTERS.

HER GRANDKIDS ARE FRANCIS AND AARON.
A LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ELLEN IS THAT SHE AND ONE OF HER PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS, SHE GRADUATED SALUTATORIAN OF HER HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE EARNED A FELLOWSHIP FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL.
AND SHE IS VERY, VERY EXCITED TO TO MOVE INTO THIS NEW POSITION.
AND WITH THAT, WE'LL LET HER ADDRESS THE BOARD.
MR. GALLAGHER, BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.
WHEN I CAME HERE IN TWO THOUSANDSEVEN THERE WERE NO HOUSES, THERE WAS NOTHING.
I'M VERY EXCITED FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY.
I HAVE A HEART AND A PASSION FOR STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES AND THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE AT RISK TRYING TO GET THEM TO GRADUATE BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE TRADITIONAL SYSTEM.
AND I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO STEP INTO THAT ROLE AND TRY TO HELP THE STUDENTS.
THANK YOU. AND THE FIFTH NEW LOBO FAMILY TEAM MEMBER THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE TO YOU IS THE NEW PRINCIPAL AT CHAVEZ ELEMENTARY, MISS LINDSEY CIVIC.
LINDSAY IS A PROUD GRADUATE OF SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY, WHICH IS IN PENNSYLVANIA.
[00:15:01]
EXCUSE ME. SHE IS A NORTHERNER.SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT SIRUP LIKE MAPLE SIRUP.
THAT'S HOW WE SAY IT. SHE SAYS SIRUP.
SO YOU DEFINITELY DO HEAR THE NORTHERN ACCENT EVERY NOW AND AGAIN.
MOST RECENTLY, SHE'S BEEN AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL AND PLANO ISD.
SHE SERVED IN THAT CAPACITY FOR THREE YEARS, AND PRIOR TO HER A.P.
EXPERIENCE, SHE WAS A TEACHER IN PLANO, ISC, FOR EIGHT YEARS.
SHE'S CONFIDENT IN HER LEADERSHIP AND CONFIDENT IN HER ABILITY TO GROW AND NURTURE TEACHERS.
SHE'S REFLECTIVE IN HER PRACTICE.
SHE'S SOLUTION ORIENTED, ALWAYS THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX TO TRY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS. SHE IS VERY THRILLED TO MOVE INTO THE PRINCIPAL ROLE FROM HER ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION.
AND ON A PERSONAL NOTE, LINDSAY'S FAMILY, HER HUSBAND, RON, SHE HAS A922 DAUGHTERS.
ONE IS NINE. HER NAME IS KARLYN.
AND THEN SHE HAS AN ALMOST TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER NAMED KINSLEY.
AND I BELIEVE ONE OF YOUR DAUGHTERS IS HERE TONIGHT.
THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE, CARLYN.
WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO TELL YOU THAT SHE IS AGAIN BORN AND RAISED IN THE NORTH.
IT'S SPECIFICALLY IN PHILADELPHIA.
SO WHEN ASKED WHAT HER FAVORITE TEAM TO WATCH IS, DON'T THROW ANY TOMATOES AT HER.
I'LL BLOCK HER. IS THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES.
IF SHE WERE TO SING KARAOKE, SHE WOULD SING THAT SONG.
I THINK THAT'S FROM THE THE PATRICK SWAYZE MOVIE.
YES. I'VE HAD THE TIME AND THEN.
BUT SHE SAYS SHE'S QUICK TO ADD SHE HAS NO SINGING ABILITY AT ALL.
SO WE'VE GOT SOME DEEJAYING SKILLS AMONGST OUR NEW FOLKS DANCING, SINGING.
WE MIGHT PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER.
CIVIC TO INTRODUCE HERSELF AND SHARE WITH THE BOARD.
MR. OLSON AND BOARD AND MR. GALLAGHER, I STILL CANNOT EVEN BELIEVE I'M STANDING UP HERE TODAY.
SOMEBODY ASKED ME ABOUT A FEW MONTHS AGO, SIX MONTHS AGO, WHAT WOULD BE THE PERFECT SCHOOL? WHERE WOULD YOU WANT TO BE? AND I SAID, I HAVE NO IDEA.
I HAD A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE WHO WAS LIKE, DO IT, GO FOR IT.
I DROVE MY FEET FOR A LITTLE BIT.
AND THEN I WAS ALL IN AND I WAS LIKE, THIS IS IT.
THIS IS WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN MY LAST FEW WEEKS.
I FELT THE FAMILY VIBE ALREADY.
I'M BRINGING MY OWN DAUGHTER HERE TO BE A LOBO NOW AS WELL, SO I AM JUST SO APPRECIATIVE OF THIS.
AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU ALL TO SEE EVERYTHING THAT WE DO AT CHAVEZ THIS YEAR.
OUR FINAL NEW LOBO FAMILY MEMBER THAT WE'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE TO THE BOARD AND TO THE COMMUNITY THIS EVENING IS OUR NEW PRINCIPAL AT HACKBERRY ELEMENTARY, MR. JIMMY ROSS. JIMMY IS A PROUD GRADUATE OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE EARNED HIS BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK.
SO WE HAVE AN ADMINISTRATOR THAT BRINGS THE SOCIAL WORK AND THE COUNSELING PIECES TO HIS WORK AS AN EDUCATOR NOW AND HIS HE HAS SPENT THE LAST 20 EXCUSE ME, 13 YEARS AS AN EDUCATOR.
HE'S BEEN MOST RECENTLY THIS IS HIS SECOND YEAR AS A LOBO.
SO AGAIN, WE'RE HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE FROM WITHIN PRIOR TO SERVING AS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT OAK POINT LAST SCHOOL YEAR, HE WAS IN THE CHINA SPRINGS ISD, WHICH IS RIGHT NEAR WACO.
YES, HE HAS BEEN A FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE TEACHER.
HE WAS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL IN CHINA SPRINGS, AND HE BRINGS A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE TO THIS POSITION STRENGTHS, LEADERSHIP SKILLS THAT MR. ROSS POSSESSES.
HE IS THE CONSUMMATE COLLABORATOR.
HE BELIEVES DEEPLY IN ESTABLISHING RELATIONSHIPS WITH STAFF AND WITH STUDENTS AND HEARING THEIR VOICES AND THE VOICES OF STAFF AND STUDENTS BEING PART OF THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS. HE DOES NOT KNOW.
A STRANGER TO KNOW MR. ROSS IS TO LIKE HIM AND TO LOVE HIM.
HE SPEAKS OFTEN FREELY ABOUT HOW MUCH HE LOVES THIS DISTRICT AND HOW THE LAST PAST YEAR THAT HE'S SPENT IN THIS DISTRICT HAS BEEN A YEAR LIKE ANOTHER THAT HE'S EVER HAD IN EDUCATION, AND WE'RE REALLY GRATEFUL FOR HIM TO BE PART OF OUR TEAM.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE, MR. ROSS FAMILY IS HIS WIFE IS ALISHA.
THEY'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR 26 YEARS.
HE'S VERY PROUD OF THAT, AS YOU SHOULD BE.
HE HAS TWO KIDS, JORDAN AND JASMINE.
[00:20:08]
LEBRON JAMES. SO DOES I WONDER IF IT CHANGES EVERY TIME HE CHANGES TEAMS OK.WHAT WOULD HE SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT BEAT IT BY MICHAEL JACKSON.
HE IS NUMBER NINE OF 15 CHILDREN AND SO HE DEFINITELY KNOWS THE CONCEPT OF SHARING.
SO AT THIS POINT, WE'LL ASK MR. ROSS TO ADDRESS THE BOARD.
THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.
I WOULD LIKE TO FIRST ACKNOWLEDGE MR. OLSON, BOARD MEMBERS, MR. GALLAGHER AND ALL OF YOU TONIGHT FOR BEING HERE.
THANK YOU. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I AM EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY HAPPY TONIGHT.
THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE IN THIS WAY.
AND SO I JUST REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING STARTED.
AND I'VE BEEN SO OVERWHELMED BY THE OUTREACH THAT'S COME MY WAY.
I JUST WANT TO SAY ONE THING, THOUGH.
MY HEART IS JOYFUL TONIGHT BECAUSE.
MY PARENTS, THEY GRADUATED WITH EIGHTH GRADE EDUCATIONS.
MY PARENTS, THEY RAISED 15 KIDS AND ALL OF US WENT TO COLLEGE EXCEPT ONE.
SO I AM JUST A HAPPY MAN TONIGHT.
I MEANT TO ASK. AS IN YOUR FAMILY PRESENT TONIGHT? NO, MA'AM. OKAY. ALL RIGHT.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MR. GALLAGHER, FOR INDULGING US.
WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY.
YOU COULD LAY EYES ON THEM AND HEAR FROM THEIR MOUTHS HOW PASSIONATE THEY ARE.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. PERFECT.
THANK YOU, MISS BROWN. NEXT, WE'LL GO ON TO THE REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.
[7. Reports of the Superintendent]
MR. GALLAGHER. YEAH, AND I WANT TO JUST SAY KUDOS.THANK YOU, MRS. BROWN, FOR THAT.
AND EACH ONE OF YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.
I WILL SAY THAT NOW MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME IF YOU ALL WANT TO.
I KNOW YOU'VE GOT A BUSY DAY TOMORROW.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO STAY THE WHOLE BOARD MEETING, BUT YOU'RE WELCOME TO YOU.
SO AND MR. ROSS, I WAS GETTING READY TO SAY I'M READY TO VOTE FOR YOU.
SO THAT WAS THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
SO THANK YOU AND GREAT JOB TO EACH OF YOU AND THANK YOU FAMILIES FOR BEING HERE.
SO AT THIS TIME, YES, IT'S TIME FOR REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.
TRAMEL TO COME TO THE LECTERN TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON DISTRICT RATINGS AND ACCOUNTABILITY.
BUT WE DO HAVE RESULTS THAT DR.
TRAMEL IS GOING TO REPORT TO TO YOU SAID.
GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT OLSON BOARD MR. GALLAGHER, WE DO HAVE SOME PRELIMINARY STAR INFORMATION TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD TONIGHT.
ASHLEY GLOVER, OUR DIRECTOR OF TESTING AND FEDERAL PROGRAMS, TO COME UP AND DO THAT.
I DID WANT TO SAY THAT THE STATE HAS CONTINUED TO KIND OF MOVE, AS MR. GALLAGHER SAID, THOSE DATES THAT WE ARE RECEIVING THAT INFORMATION.
I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE A FAVORITE KARAOKE SONG OR A FUN FACT FOR YOU.
I DON'T HAVE THAT, SO I WILL JUST DIVE RIGHT IN THIS EVENING.
THANK YOU FOR THAT WONDERFUL INTRODUCTION, DR.
TRAMEL. LET'S SEE IF I CAN MAKE SURE WE'RE GOING HERE.
WE'RE HAVING A LITTLE HICCUP WITH OUR.
SO THIS EVENING, I'M GOING TO SHARE SOME PRELIMINARY STAR RESULTS WITH YOU.
[00:25:07]
WHAT THIS MEANS BY GRADE LEVEL ARE THESE ARE THE PERCENTAGE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO MET STANDARD OR ABOVE ON THEIR SPECIFIC READING GRADE LEVEL TEST.SO THIS IS, AS YOU CAN SEE, FOR EXAMPLE, IN THIRD GRADE, WE HAVE 78% OR ABOVE THAT HAVE MET STANDARD AT THIS TIME ON THEIR STAR ASSESSMENT.
IN FOURTH GRADE, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE IN THE GOLD COLUMN THAT AGAIN IS GOING TO BE APPROACHES.
APPROACHES IS MEETING STANDARD MEETS MEANS THE STUDENT WAS ABLE TO ACHIEVE SOME ADDITIONAL PERCENTAGE POINTS ESSENTIALLY ON THE TEST. AND THE MASTER'S MEANS A STUDENT HAD NEARLY A PERFECT SCORE OR OR MISSED VERY, VERY FEW.
WE'VE MADE SOME INCREDIBLE GROWTH IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT AREAS THAT I WILL SHARE IN THE FUTURE.
IF WE CAN GO AHEAD AND GO TO THAT NEXT SLIDE IF WE'RE READY.
WE HAVE IT DIVIDED UP THE EXACT SAME WAY THAT WE DID FOR READING THIRD THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE.
SOME OF YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHERE ARE THE LOSSES? WE DID DISCUSS EOC A COUPLE OF BOARD MEETINGS AGO, BUT AS DR.
SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AND I'LL HAVE THAT INFORMATION FOR YOU AS WELL AT THAT TIME.
AND ABOVE IT IS A DUPLICATE COUNT.
SO IF YOU ARE A STUDENT WHO MASTERS, YOU ALSO MET AN APPROACHED.
SO THAT'S SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND.
I KNOW THAT MIGHT BE A QUESTION THAT YOU HAVE.
AGAIN, YOU'LL SEE THE APPROACHES, MEATS AND MASTERS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
AND YOU CAN SEE IN EIGHTH GRADE WE SAW SOME IMPROVEMENT OVER THE PRIOR FIFTH GRADE ASSESSMENT.
SO THAT'S AN AREA THAT WE ARE LOOKING TO GROW SIGNIFICANTLY AND SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.
AND THEN OUR FINAL SLIDE IS SOCIAL STUDIES.
AND SOCIAL STUDIES IS TAKEN AT THE EIGHTH GRADE, AS YOU KNOW.
AND WITH THAT, WE HAVE 58% THAT APPROACHED, 25% THAT MET, AND 14% THAT MASTERED.
SO THIS EVENING, MY GOAL IS TO SHARE WITH YOU THE BASIC INFORMATION.
BUT I ALSO WANT TO, AS YOU WELL KNOW, JUST MENTION THAT THIS IS A SMALL SAMPLE OF DATA THAT IN NO WAY COULD REPRESENT ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT OUR STUDENTS.
AND AREAS FOR FOCUS FOR CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION GOING FORWARD IN OUR CLASSROOMS. SO WE'RE VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO CLOSING SOME OF THOSE GAPS IN ANY AREAS THAT THEY MAY HAVE.
DR. TRAMEL AND I ARE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS TIME THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
ANY QUESTIONS ABOARD? THE APPROACHES SCORES.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THOSE SCORES? SPECIFICALLY IN MATH FOUR.
SO YOU'RE SEEING IN THE EIGHTH GRADE SCORES THOSE REALLY STRONG MATH STUDENTS.
AND AT THE SEVENTH GRADE, WE DON'T HAVE AS MANY OF THOSE STUDENTS REFLECTED IN THAT APPROACHES.
SCORE CERTAINLY THAT'S AN AREA THAT WE WANT TO FOCUS ON ALONG WITH SCIENCE.
AND JUST A REMINDER, THAT'S THE STAGE THAT HAS ALL OF THE ENRICHING RESOURCES AND THE RESOURCES THAT REALLY HELP TEACHERS DIFFERENTIATE FOR THE DIFFERENT LEARNERS IN THEIR ROOMS. AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY HAVEN'T HAD AVAILABLE TO THEM IN THEIR LESSON PLANNING BEFORE.
SO WE ANTICIPATE WONDERFUL THINGS FOR OUR STUDENTS, PROVIDING THAT RESOURCE TO OUR TEACHERS TO HELP THEM IN MEETING THE NEEDS AND IN THEIR CLASSROOMS AND OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.
[00:30:03]
SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU, DR.
TAM. THANK YOU. OH, I'M SORRY.
I THOUGHT YOU. FOR K THROUGH TWO BECAUSE THEY'LL TAKE THE STAR NEXT.
RIGHT. RIGHT. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW WE GET THEM READY TO PERFORM? WELL, ON THE. ABSOLUTELY SO.
OUR TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL HAVE JUST COMPLETED THE SCIENCE OF TEACHING READING, WHICH IS A VERY PHONIC SPACE, BUT ALSO WELL BALANCED PROGRAM. AND SO OUR GOAL THIS YEAR IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING THAT PROGRAM WITH FIDELITY AT THE KINDERGARTEN FIRST AND SECOND GRADE LEVEL.
SO WE CAN EASILY SEE WHERE THEIR STRENGTHS ARE, BUT WHERE WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE ARE DOING HANDS ON MANIPULATIVES AND SHORING UP AREAS IN MATH, AND THEN ALSO WORKING ON FLUENCY WITH THAT SCIENCE OF TEACHING READING AND THAT THAT MAP DATA WILL GIVE US SOME GOOD INFORMATION TO HELP US DO THAT. YOU'RE WELCOME.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MR. GALLAGHER. AT THE SUMMIT TO ASK OUR EXECUTIVE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR FOR OPERATIONS, MR. ALFRED GAZIDIS, TO COME TO THE PODIUM TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON OUR DEMOGRAPHIC REPORT.
THANK YOU. PRESIDENT OLSON BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
MR. GALLAGHER. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME IN AND SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOU TODAY.
SO I APOLOGIZE. THIS COMING A LITTLE LATE.
YOU'LL SEE ANOTHER ONE COMING UP VERY QUICKLY FOR THE SECOND QUARTER.
SO DON'T BE SURPRISED WHEN THAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS.
BUT THIS ONE FOR THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2022.
AS YOU CAN SEE, OUR HISTORICAL HOME SALES ARE DOING VERY WELL ALREADY THIS YEAR, 416 SALES ALREADY THAT COULD THAT IS INCLUSIVE OF NEW AND EXISTING HOMES.
THAT'S NOT JUST NEW STARTS AND NEW SALES, THAT'S ALSO EXISTING PROPERTIES AS WELL.
WE SOLD ALMOST TO THE 2018 LEVEL, WHICH WAS OUR HIGHEST YEAR OF THE LAST DECADE.
SO WE'RE STILL SEEING THOSE NUMBERS INCREASE OR STARTING TO INCREASE AGAIN.
THERE'S A LOT OF FACTORS THAT PLAY INTO THAT.
WE HAD HISTORICALLY LOW INTEREST RATES, WHICH, AS YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE AWARE OF TRENDS HAPPENING NOW WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE, THEY ARE STARTING TO INCREASE THOSE INTEREST RATES. WE ARE NOT SEEING THE EFFECTS OF THAT YET, BUT I ANTICIPATE THAT WE WILL HEAR IN THE NEXT 6 TO 8 MONTHS.
SO YOU'LL SEE THOSE NUMBERS STAY DECENT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR.
I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT OUR PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS THAT HOME VALUES IN OUR DISTRICT HAS INCREASED EXPONENTIALLY OVER THE LAST DECADE. THE AVERAGE NEW HOME PRICE NOW IS JUST UNDER 500,000.
OUR EXISTING AVERAGE PRICES RIGHT AT 429,000.
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM 2021, THAT'S AN INCREASE OF ABOUT 40,000.
SO AS THOSE PRICES GO UP, OUR TAXABLE VALUE GOES UP AS WELL.
BUT THAT'S INDICATIVE OF ANY GROWTH DISTRICT.
LOOKING AT OUR NEW HOME STARTS AND CLOSINGS.
AS I REPORTED LAST QUARTER THAT WE SAW A LOT OF STARTS.
WE ACTUALLY OUTPACED OUR SALES LAST YEAR.
BUT I THINK THE BIGGEST NUMBER THAT INDICATIVE OF THAT IS IN THE THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTER OF LAST YEAR, WE HAD A LOT OF STARTS AND BECAUSE OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUE, THOSE HOMES WEREN'T BEING FINISHED, SO THEY COULDN'T BE SOLD.
SO OUR STARTS AND SALES ARE PRETTY EVEN.
[00:35:08]
BUT OUR BUILDERS ARE INDICATIVE OF TRYING TO FIX THAT TREND AND THEY'RE STARTING TO BUILD LARGE NUMBERS OF HOMES AT ONE TIME.AND YOU'RE CLOSING DISTRIBUTIONS.
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THIS REPORT, WE'RE STILL CLOSING MORE HOMES IN THE OAK POINT AREA.
WE ANTICIPATE TO BE AT THAT BEING OUR BIGGEST GROWTH AREA RIGHT NOW.
WE HAVE SOME GOING ON IN VALENCIA OF THE LAKE, WHICH IS THE LAKEVIEW SITE.
IT'S ALSO THE SITE OF ONE OF OUR NEXT FEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN OUR FUTURE PLANNING.
AS YOU AS WE'VE REPORTED BEFORE IN THE OAK POINT AREA THAT HAS THE LARGEST AREA OF GROWTH, THE LARGEST POTENTIAL OF GROWTH BECAUSE A LOT OF THE OTHER AREAS ARE BUILDING OUT AND THEY'RE GETTING PRETTY CROWDED.
THE FUTURES. THIS IS WHERE THE FUTURE LOTS ARE AGAIN LARGEST AREAS IN IS IN THE OAK POINTE AREA, LAKEWOOD VILLAGE, NORTH SHORES, SOUTH OAK.
ALL OF THOSE ARE STARTING TO MOVE DIRT NOW.
DISTRICT HOUSING OVERVIEW BY THE ELEMENTARY ZONE.
AGAIN, OUR LARGEST NUMBER IS IN OAK POINT.
HOUSES ARE GOING IN NOW AND THEY'RE SELLING THEM, OCCUPYING THEM.
A LOT OF THOSE HOMES ARE GOING TO BE STARTER HOMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE FUTURE.
BACKING UP TO THIS, AS YOU CAN SEE, THE LAKEWOOD VILLAGE ARE GOING TO BE LARGER HOMES, BUT SOUTH OAK IS GOING AS AN ADDITION OF ABOUT 350 HOME SITES THAT ARE GOING TO BE STARTER HOMES, ACCORDING TO THE BUILDER.
THAT'S OUR NEXT ELEMENTARY SITE THAT TAKES SOME OF THE PRESSURE OFF OF OAK POINTE ELEMENTARY.
IN THE DISTRICT HOUSING OVERVIEW.
ALL THE AREAS IN GREEN ARE ACTIVELY DEVELOPING RIGHT NOW.
SO AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE'S A LOT OF AREAS STILL DEVELOPING.
WE'VE GOT A LARGE AREA DOWN TO PRESTWICK.
WE'VE GOT TWO ADDITIONS GOING IN THERE UP IN VALENCIA IN THE FAR NORTH NORTHEAST CORNER.
THAT WHOLE PENINSULA IS BEING DEVELOPED AT THE CURRENT TIME.
AND THEN WE'VE GOT SOME GOING IN IN THE OAK POINT AREA, AS YOU CAN SEE, AS LAND BECOMES AVAILABLE.
OUR NEXT TWO EDITIONS GOING IN.
CHELSEA GREEN IS 150, 166 LOTS.
WE HAVE WEST WESTBURY, WHICH IS PHASE SIX IS 92 LOTS.
THAT'S YOU CAN SEE IT'S RIGHT BESIDE STRIKE ELEMENTARY OR STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SORRY. THEY ARE DEVELOPING THAT NOW.
THEY'RE STARTING TO PUT STREETS IN IF ANYONE'S BEEN BY THEIR.
THESE ARE SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCES THAT ARE NOT MULTIFAMILY.
WE DO HAVE SOME MULTIFAMILY OVERVIEWS GOING IN AS WELL.
WE HAVE A NEW APARTMENT COMPLEX GOING IN OVER HERE ON THE SIDE OF THE OLD KING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
THEY'RE PROBABLY ABOUT 50% COMPLETE WITH THAT.
THAT'S A 324 UNIT COMPLEX GOING IN THERE.
WE ALSO HAVE, IF YOU'LL LOOK DOWN ON THE FAR SOUTH BY STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAVE AN ADDITIONAL 204 MULTI UNIT GOING IN THERE WITH 159 SINGLE FAMILY RENTAL UNITS GOING IN RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND THAT'S WHAT THAT SHOWS RIGHT THERE.
YOU'LL SEE THOSE RESIDENCES AND THOSE RENTAL UNITS GOING IN PRETTY, PRETTY QUICKLY.
THE TEN YEAR FORECAST BY GRADE LEVEL.
AS YOU CAN SEE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, NUMBERS ARE GOING TO GO UP EXPONENTIALLY.
THE TOTAL NUMBERS WERE 82, 94 THIS LAST YEAR, ESTIMATED GOING UP 395.
ANOTHER FIVE, 79 AND SO FORTH.
NUMBERS ARE GOING TO KEEP GROWING AS HOUSES COME.
THAT'S JUST THE WAY GROWTH HAPPENS.
AND WE'RE GOING TO NEED THE ROOM FOR THOSE KIDS.
AS YOU SEE RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE SOME SITES THAT ARE ALREADY AT THEIR CAPACITY.
LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL IS ALL YELLOW.
THAT MEANS IT EXCEEDS ITS CAPACITY.
THAT'S A MAXIMUM CAPACITY GREEN AS IT'S FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY, WHICH ARE TWO DIFFERENT NUMBERS.
AS YOU SEE, STRIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS THEY'RE ALREADY ABOVE FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY.
[00:40:03]
IT'S MAXIMUM CAPACITY, AS YOU CAN SEE, IS A 1200.BUT WE'RE GOING TO GET THERE PRETTY QUICKLY AS WELL.
SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO START.
THAT THAT'S GOT TO GO IN SOON BECAUSE OUR SITE'S GOING TO BE OVERGROWN.
OAK POINT ELEMENTARY, YOU CAN SEE, IS ALREADY ABOVE FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY OR WILL BE NEXT YEAR AND WILL EXCEED ITS MAXIMUM CAPACITY WITHIN TWO YEARS. THREE YEARS.
WHAT DOES THAT ALL MEAN? WE'VE GOT 21 ACTIVE BUILDING SUBDIVISIONS, SIX FUTURE ROUND WORK ON 160 LOTS.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE 10,200 STUDENTS BY 26.
27. I BELIEVE THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN A LITTLE FASTER THAN THAT.
DRIVING AROUND OUR DISTRICT, YOU CAN SEE THERE'S DEVELOPMENT GOING ON EVERYWHERE.
AND THAT'S THE END OF OUR PRESENTATION.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS I CAN ANSWER? QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ALL RIGHT, PRESIDENT OLSON BOARD MEMBERS AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO ASK OUR DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT, MR. ROSS ROBERTS, TO COME UP TO PROVIDE US AN UPDATE ON OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY PLAN AND DISCUSS SOME POTENTIAL PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED WITH THE LONG RANGE FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE AND BEFORE MR. ROBERTS STARTS. I'LL SAY BACK ON MAY 24TH, YOU KNOW, THE JUST ABSOLUTE UNTHINKABLE TRAGEDY THAT HAPPENED IN UVALDE.
IT MADE EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT, EVERY SUPERINTENDENT, EVERY PRINCIPAL, EVERY PARENT, EVERY COMMUNITY MEMBER TAKE A STEP BACK AND START THINKING AND REFLECTING ON WHAT WE DO IN OUR DISTRICT.
EVERY POLICE DEPARTMENT, SAME THING.
SO THE VERY FIRST PERSON I CALLED WAS MR. ROBERTS AND SAID, WE NEED TO REALLY TAKE TIME TO REVIEW OUR CURRENT PLAN AND REALLY BE THINKING ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO MOVING FORWARD.
AND THE ONE THING I'LL TELL OUR COMMUNITY IS IN LITTLE ELM ISD, WE'VE REALLY PUT SOME TIME AND THOUGHT INTO OUR CURRENT SAFETY AND SECURITY PLAN, AND I'M VERY CONFIDENT IN IT.
HOWEVER, ANY TIME ANY SORT OF TRAGEDY LIKE THAT HAPPENS, IT'S JUST IT'S ABSOLUTELY UNTHINKABLE.
BUT IT DOES MAKE US REFLECT AND ASK OURSELVES, WHAT CAN WE DO ON TOP OF WHAT WE'RE ALREADY DOING? SO. MR. ROBERTS.
YES. SUPERINTENDENT GALLAGHER, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
PRESIDENT OLSON, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
THANK YOU FOR THAT, MR. GALLAGHER. AND LIKE HE MENTIONED JUST A SECOND AGO, WE HAVE STARTED OUR JOURNEY NOW TALKING TO OUR CAMPUS LEADERS IN TERMS OF CULTURE, OF VIGILANCE BECAUSE OF THE TRAGEDY THAT HAPPENED IN UVALDE, IT REALLY CAUSES US TO REFLECT AND REALLY DRILL DOWN DEEPLY INTO WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE, WHICH IS A ROBUST SAFETY AND SECURITY, COMPREHENSIVE PLAN THAT I'LL SHARE WITH YOU MOMENTARILY.
AND THEN ALSO DIVE INTO SOME RECOMMENDATIONS THAT I WAS ABLE TO SHARE WITH THE LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING COMMITTEE BEFORE WE GET STARTED IN SUPPORT.
WE HAVE SOME OFFICERS FROM THE COLONY P.D.
WE HAVE SERGEANT CHIP, WHO OVERSEES OUR SRO PROGRAM WITHIN THE COLONY, AND WE HAVE OUR LITTLE ELM OFFICER HOLYFIELD REPRESENTING THE TOWN OF LITTLE ELM.
AND THEN IN CONSTANT CONVERSATIONS WITH CHIEF TATOU, WHO IS THE NEW CHIEF OF POLICE IN OAK POINT, HE WAS HELD UP WITH PRIOR ENGAGEMENT BUT IS TRYING TO GET HERE.
BUT JUST LETTING THE COMMUNITY KNOW OF OUR ONGOING RELATIONSHIP AND ONGOING WORK THAT WE DO WITH OUR DIFFERENT POLICE DEPARTMENTS IS SECOND TO NONE AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE THEIR SUPPORT AND THEIR SERVICE, SO THANK THEM FOR BEING HERE.
ALSO, A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO MR. CLINT MILLER, OUR DIRECTOR FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY.
MR. GALLAGHER MENTIONED OUR COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY PLAN THAT HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS NOW REALLY FOR SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS, BUILDING ON TOP OF WHAT LITTLE ELM ISD HAD IN PLACE.
BUT JUST WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. MILLER AND HIS DUE DILIGENCE IN KEEPING EVERY CHILD IN EVERY ADULT SAFE WITHIN OUR BUILDINGS
[00:45:09]
IN LITTLE ELM ISD.SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I'LL MOVE INTO MY PRESENTATION AND.
YOU KNOW, MR. GALLAGHER TALKED ABOUT IT, AND WE DO HAVE A VERY ROBUST SAFETY AND SECURITY PLAN.
AND I'LL TAKE US TO THE WEBSITE.
AND WITH THAT, EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, I WILL BE VAGUE AND LEAVE OUT SOME DETAILS JUST BECAUSE IT HAS TO DO WITH SAFETY AND SECURITY. I'M COMFORTABLE IN SHARING THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, IT IS FORWARD FACING AND SO IT DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE DETAILS IN ALL OF THESE TOPICS.
BUT IT IS VERY MUCH IMPORTANT FOR US TO SEE AND KNOW THAT WE HAVE THESE RESOURCES AVAILABLE ALREADY IN PLACE AND IMPLEMENTED UP AND RUNNING. SO GO INTO LA ISD WEBSITE, OUR SAFE LOBO SAFETY RESOURCES.
WE HAVE EVERYTHING, ALL THINGS SAFETY AND SECURITY HERE FOR ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
HERE IS WHAT I WANT TO SHED LIGHT ON SHORTLY BEFORE WE MOVE INTO RECOMMENDATION ON THE PROJECTS.
SO WE'VE BROKEN DOWN OUR SAFETY PLAN.
IT'S A THREE PRONGED APPROACH AND YOU CAN SEE THE CATEGORIES THERE.
THE FIRST TOPIC IS THE PHYSICAL SECURITY OF THE CAMPUSES.
THE SECOND TOPIC IS COLLABORATIVE SAFETY AND SECURITY CULTURE.
AND ROUNDING OUT OUR PLAN IS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
THIS IS GUIDANCE FROM OUR GOVERNING BODY THROUGH TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER OUT OF SAN MARCOS.
AND WE HAVE TAKEN THIS THREE PRONGED APPROACH AND GUIDANCE FROM THEM, WHICH HELPS US LAY OUT OUR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN IF WE MOVE BACK UP TO THE PHYSICAL SECURITY OF CAMPUSES.
WE WILL BE IMPLEMENTING THAT PROGRAM WHERE WE HAVE NOTIFICATION TO OUR ADULTS WITHIN EVERY CAMPUS OF WHEN THOSE DOORS, THE EXTERIOR DOORS ARE AJAR AND NOT SECURED.
SO THAT WILL BE SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE ADDED HERE IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS THAT WE WILL HAVE UP AND RUNNING, MOVING INTO THE COLLABORATIVE SAFETY AND SECURITY CULTURE.
YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE MONTHLY MEETINGS WITH ALL OF OUR POLICE, FIRE AND OTHER PERSONNEL.
AND ALSO HERE LATELY, WITHIN THE LAST THREE WEEKS, AT LEAST TWO DAYS A WEEK, WE HAVE HAD COORDINATED SWAT PRACTICE AND DRILLS CARRIED OUT ON OUR FACILITIES AS WELL.
WE ARE MOVING INTO AND IMPLEMENTING A FIRST RESPONDER SYSTEM THAT ALL ADULTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO, WHICH WILL COMMUNICATE THROUGHOUT EACH CAMPUS STAFF AND TO BETTER SECURE OUR STUDENTS WITHIN OUR CAMPUSES.
THE EMERGENCY RESPONSIVENESS REALLY IS JUST A TERM THAT ENCOMPASSES FOUR OR FIVE DIFFERENT ASPECTS.
THAT'S WHERE SOME OF OUR DETAILS GET INVOLVED, AND THAT'S WHY I HAVE JUST THAT TERM THERE.
WE HAVE ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE OTHER STEPS THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE THAT TAKES CARE OF THAT EMERGENCY RESPONSIVENESS. SO THAT IS OUR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN MOVING INTO MOVING BACK TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS.
MR. ROBERTS, BEFORE YOU GO THERE, CAN YOU GO BACK AND TALK BRIEFLY ABOUT THAT SYSTEM THAT YOU JUST DESCRIBED WITH THE ALERT SYSTEM? AND IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.
I WANT THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ARE WATCHING.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT AND WE'VE KNOWN THIS KNOW WE'VE BEEN IN EDUCATION COMBINED, MR. ROBERTS AND I 60 YEARS.
AND UNFORTUNATELY, WHAT WHAT WE HAVE SEEN I'VE SEEN IT IN MY CAREER.
STUDENTS WILL PROP A DOOR OPEN.
TEACHERS MIGHT EVEN PROPER DOOR OPEN.
AND I PROBABLY BEEN GUILTY OF IT IN THE PAST AS WELL.
[00:50:02]
SO THIS NEW SYSTEM, WHAT IT WILL ALLOW US TO DO IS TO RECEIVE AN ALERT.IF ON THE CAMPUS, PRINCIPAL OR ADMINISTRATORS, WHOEVER IS BEING SELECTED FOR THIS, THEY'LL RECEIVE AN ALERT ON THEIR PHONE THAT STATES DOOR 16 IS UNSECURED OR IT MAY BE WORDED DIFFERENTLY.
BUT SELECT MEMBERS OF THE CAMPUS TEAM AS WELL AS CENTRAL OFFICE TEAM WILL RECEIVE THAT ALERT.
SO DID I MISS ANYTHING WITH THAT? NO, THAT'S PERFECT. SO WE WILL HAVE DESIGNATED PERSONNEL WITHIN EACH CAMPUS THAT WILL RECEIVE THOSE ALERTS, ALONG WITH MR. MILLER AND MYSELF, AS WE DO A LOT OF REPORTS OR A LOT OF PUSH OUT MESSAGES THAT WE RECEIVE, WE DO HAVE AS A PART OF OUR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN OUR.
OUR ENTRANCES ARE IDENTIFIED, LET'S JUST SAY, LEAVING OUT SOME OF THE DETAILS.
AND SO WITH THAT NOTIFICATION, AN ADMINISTRATOR OF THAT CAMPUS WILL BE DIRECTED TO A CERTAIN EXIT OR ENTRANCE BECAUSE OF THE DOOR CONTACTS NOT COMING INTO PLAY.
AND SO IT IS VERY VITAL FOR OUR PLAN TO BE ABLE TO SECURE ALL OF THOSE EXTERIOR DOORS.
ANYTHING ELSE? SO THEN MOVING ON TO JULY 8TH, MR. GALLAGHER ASKED ME TO PRESENT TO THE LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING COMMITTEE, WHICH I PUT TOGETHER SOME RESEARCH ALONG WITH MR. MILLER, AND WE MET WITH SEVERAL COMPANIES AND LIKE YOU MENTIONED AT THE VERY FIRST, SAFETY AND SECURITY OF OUR KIDS IS ALWAYS ON THE FOREFRONT OF OUR MINDS AND EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
AND SO WE ARE ALWAYS REFLECTING, ALWAYS LOOKING AT OUR PRACTICES, OUR PROCEDURES TO LOOK, TO SEE IF WE HAVE CUTTING EDGE AND OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS, OUR PERSONNEL, OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS DESERVE THE BEST.
AND SO WITH THAT IN MIND, WE CAME UP WITH AND TALKED TO THESE COMPANIES.
ONE IS OUR IMPACT FILM, WHICH WE HAVE ALREADY STARTED AND WE HAVE IN PLACE IN A LOT OF SITUATIONS.
I WON'T GO INTO A LOT OF DETAILS, BUT WORKING WITH THAT COMPANY, THEY HAVE THEY HAVE PLACES IN OUR FACILITIES THAT ARE BROKEN DOWN INTO WHAT THEY REFER TO AS ZONES.
SO WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS A SLIDE THAT REPRESENTS THE TOP PICTURE REALLY ALLOWS YOU TO SEE WHAT THE IMPACT FILM LOOKS LIKE BECAUSE LOOKING AT OUR WINDOWS, YOU CANNOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE.
WHAT YOU SEE DOWN BELOW IS REFERENCE TO ZONE ONE.
ZONE ONE ARE OUR MAIN ENTRANCES AND THEN TO THE LEFT OF THE FRONT DOOR AND THEN YOU SEE THE WINDOWS ADJACENT TO THE CAFETERIA THERE.
THAT IS ALSO CONSIDERED ZONE ONE BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED CONNECTED TO OR ADJACENT TO OUR MAIN ENTRANCES. AND SO THE RECOMMENDATION TO THE COMMITTEE IS TO CONTINUE ON ANY FACILITIES WHERE ZONE ONE IS NOT COVERED WITH THE IMPACT FILM, TO CONTINUE THAT AND TO COMPLETE AND TO MAKE SURE EVERY ZONE, ONE WINDOW OR DOOR IS COVERED WITH IMPACT FILM.
ZONE TWO IS A STAND ALONE WINDOW OR DOOR.
YOU CAN SEE A COUPLE OF PICTURES HERE FROM ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES.
THIS IS AWAY FROM ANY OF OUR MAIN ENTRANCES OR EXITS.
AND YOU CAN SEE STAND ALONE WINDOWS.
THE PICTURE TO THE RIGHT THERE IS IS IS A LONG SHOT REALLY CONTAINING MULTIPLE WINDOWS.
AND IF YOU SEE DOWN TOWARDS THE END, THAT IS AN ENTRANCE OR AN EXIT.
SO THE RECOMMENDATION TO THE COMMITTEE IS TO CONTINUE THE WORK WITH THE IMPACT FILM FOR ALL FACILITIES AND ALL OF OUR ZONE TO WINDOWS AND DOORS. LASTLY IS WORKING INSIDE OF OUR BUILDINGS AND THIS IS WHAT THE COMPANY CONSIDERS ZONE THREE.
YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE HERE THAT WE ARE REFERRING TO OUR CLASSROOM DOORS AND I'VE PUT A POST TO TWO PICTURES HERE OF THOSE WINDOWS INTO OUR CLASSROOMS, AND THAT SIMPLY NEEDS TO BE SECURED, BECAUSE YOU CAN IMAGINE IF SOMEONE GETS INTO EVEN THOUGH
[00:55:04]
IT'S A SLIM ENTRANCE, THERE ARE THINGS THAT THEY CAN DO TO THE DOOR WHICH WILL COMPROMISE THAT ENTRANCE TO OUR CLASSROOM.SO THAT IS FINISHING UP THAT PROJECT WITH OUR IMPACT FILM AND THAT'S ZONE THREE.
THIS IS AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE COMPANY THAT HAS A PRODUCT NOW THAT IS REALLY DRIVEN FROM THE MATERIAL THAT A WEAPON IS PRODUCED FROM.
AND IT IT IT IS MOBILE WHERE CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION CAN MOVE THEM THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS AND WHEREVER THEY NEED TO PLACE THAT PARTICULAR RESOURCE TO HARDEN THAT FACILITY.
ONCE YOU LOOK AT IT ORIGINALLY, YOU WOULD THINK THAT THAT IS A TYPICAL METAL DETECTOR.
HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INSIDE OF THAT, IT ONLY DETECTS A WEAPON.
AND SO I HAD A SHORT VIDEO THAT I HAVE TAKEN OUT, BUT IT CLEARLY SHOWS A GENTLEMAN GOING THROUGH THESE DEVICES WITH MANY, MANY, MANY DIFFERENT THINGS ON HIS PERSON.
IT PICKS UP A CONCEALED HANDGUN AND IT IS ALERTED.
THERE'S THINGS IN HIS POCKETS, SUNSCREEN CAN HE ACTUALLY HAS TOBACCO TINS IN HIS POCKETS.
HE HAS A CELL PHONE, THINGS THAT YOU AND I KNOW THAT A TYPICAL METAL DETECTOR SETS OFF AND ALERTS.
SO. THE COMMITTEE, THE BOARD DECIDES ABOUT BOND, SO ON AND SO FORTH.
THOSE PROCEDURES AND THINGS WILL COME IF IF THAT IS A PART OF THAT PLAN.
BUT WE WANTED TO PUT THAT IN OUR SAFETY PROJECTS TO HELP WITH OUR COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY AND SECURITY PLAN. WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THIS AND DID A LOT OF RESEARCH AND LOOKING AT WITH THE HELP OF MR. GEISHAS AND REALLY LOOKING AT SECURING OUR INTERNAL DOORS AND LOOKING AT OUR LAST TRAGEDY DOWN SOUTH AND LOOKING AT OUR ALERT SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE IN OUR PERIMETER DOORS REALLY COMING INSIDE AND HARDENING OUR FACILITIES AGAIN AND LOOKING AT ELECTRONIC SECURITY ACCESS HARDWARE.
THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS WOULD BE AS WE GO INTO A HOTEL ROOM, IT WOULD BE ELECTRONIC ACCESS AND THEREFORE THE DOOR HARDWARE, THE DOOR HANDLE IS ALWAYS LOCKED.
WITH THIS PARTICULAR HARDWARE PLACED IN ALL OF OUR DOORS, IN ALL OF OUR FACILITIES, THEY WILL SIMPLY JUST KEY IN OR FOB IN AND THAT DOOR IS ALWAYS LOCKED, WHICH IS A KEY COMPONENT, WHICH WE KNOW NOW WITH THE TRAGEDY AND NOVELTY IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR US TO KEEP THOSE CLASSROOM DOORS LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. AND THEN ROUNDING OUT THE RECOMMENDATIONS IS LOOKING AT ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES.
AND SO LOOKING AT FENCING ON THOSE SECONDARY PLAYGROUNDS OR OTHER AREAS THAT WE NEED TO SECURE AND THEN ALSO HAVING A SECONDARY BARRIER LIKE YOU SEE AT TARGET, WHERE THEY HAVE, YOU KNOW, THE BIG RAT, THE RED BALLS OUT IN FRONT.
SO A CAR CANNOT ENTER THAT FACILITY OR YOU SEE THE VERY NICE, BIG, LARGE LANDSCAPE ROCKS THAT CAN BE PLACED ALONG THAT PERIMETER, ALONG THAT ROAD TO GIVE OUR STUDENTS SOME SECURITY AS WELL.
AND I WANTED TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? YEAH, I DO.
MR. ROBERTS, THAT'S A GREAT START.
THANK YOU FOR THAT PRESENTATION.
JUST A COUPLE OF CONCERNS THAT I HAVE FROM A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, RIGHT.
[01:00:07]
HOW ARE WE THIS YEAR AND WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO MAYBE TO MITIGATE SOME OF THAT SHORTAGE? SURE. THIS YEAR, A LOT OF IT IS COMING FROM REALLY MR. BORDEN'S KNOWLEDGE AND THEN ONE OF HIS ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS THAT HE'S BRINGING ON BOARD, ONE OF ONE OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF WORKING WITH THOSE PARTICULAR MEMBERS, BUT BUT REALLY RESTRUCTURING SOME OF THE CULTURE AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THEY ARE DOING, WHICH WILL KEEP THEM AROUND ONCE WE GET THEM HIRED AND ON BOARD.ALSO, WE HAVE STARTED DISCUSSIONS AND LOOKING AT THE PAY AND KIND OF LOOKING AT THOSE THINGS WHERE WE CAN RECRUIT AND POSSIBLY GET SOME MORE OF THOSE PERSONNEL.
ARE WE FULLY STAFFED NOW OR ARE WE STILL WORKING ON.
THEY'RE NOT FULLY STAFFED. WE'RE STILL RECRUITING AND STILL INTERVIEWING.
THE OTHER THING IS THAT WE ALSO HAD A NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WOULD COME IN FROM OTHER SCHOOLS.
RIGHT. THAT WERE ALWAYS INSIDE THEIR SCHOOL.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE'RE FORCING OUR STUDENTS TO WEAR THEIR BADGES SO WE CAN IDENTIFY THEM.
SO WE'VE GOT TO BE ABLE TO STOP THAT AS WELL.
SO WITHIN OUR SECURITY MEASURES, WE MAKE SURE AND WE DICTATE THAT A STUDENT HAVE THEIR ID ON THEM.
SO NOT THEY DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THEM AROUND THEIR NECK, BUT THEY HAVE TO HAVE THEM ON THEIR PERSON.
AND THAT'S HOW WE CAN IDENTIFY THEM, BELIEVE IT OR NOT.
ON OR NOT. BUT REALLY IT'S IT'S THAT CULTURE OF VIGILANCE, JUST REALLY MAKING SURE THAT OUR ADULTS ARE WORKING WITH AND LIKE YOU SAID, MONITORING THOSE ENTRANCES AND EXITS AND MAKING SURE THAT STUDENTS AREN'T ALLOWED.
I MEAN, AT THE POINT WHERE THEY'RE ALREADY INSIDE, THAT'S ALREADY TROUBLESOME.
AND THAT'S ONE THING ABOUT THE PERIMETER, THE DOOR ALERT, AND IT'S AN ONGOING ISSUE OF ALWAYS BEING IN A BUILDING THEY'RE USUALLY FOLLOWING BEHIND ANOTHER STUDENT IS WHAT HAPPENS IN MOST OF THESE CASES, RIGHT? THEY FOLLOW RIGHT WHERE THEY OPEN AND THEY COME IN BEHIND THEM.
YEAH. YEAH. SO THAT THAT SYSTEM WON'T CARE FOR THAT SITUATION? NO. AND THAT'S WHY I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE CULTURE OF VIGILANCE, JUST MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE ARE CHECKING AND TALKING, MAKING CONFRONTATION AND TALKING WITH THOSE KIDS THAT DON'T BELONG THERE. AND THEN HOPEFULLY THE CULTURE THAT WE'RE GETTING TO WITH THE SECURITY GUARDS IS ACTUALLY HAVING THEM MOVE MORE AROUND, CHECKING PERIMETERS AND WATCHING THOSE PERIMETERS DOORS AND NOT RUNNING AND GETTING STUDENTS OUT OF CLASS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
SO I THINK OUR PRACTICES HAVE TO BE LOOKED AT, WHICH I'VE ALREADY HAD A DISCUSSION WITH MR. GORDON. HE TOTALLY UNDERSTANDS.
AND SO I THINK CHANGING THAT PRACTICE IS ANOTHER KEY PIECE TO THAT OF HAVING OUR SECURITY OFFICERS BEING VIGILANT AND DOING MORE ACTION INSTEAD OF THINGS THEY SHOULDN'T BE DOING.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBERS? THANK YOU, MR. ROBERTS. APPRECIATE IT.
THANK YOU. THIS FLORES ANY CITIZEN INPUT.
[8. Citizen Input]
OKAY. WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME, YOU CAN COME UP TO THE PODIUM.PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME AND YOUR ADDRESS.
I WILL GIVE YOU A ONE MINUTE WARNING WHEN YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE LEFT OF YOUR 5 MINUTES.
SO THE FIRST ONE WE HAVE IS MR. GEORGE MCCULLOUGH. WHAT? OH, I'M SORRY. I DID.
WE DID CHANGE. I APOLOGIZE. JUST YOUR NAME, NOT YOUR ADDRESS.
SORRY. I FORGOT THAT CHANGE WE MADE.
WHENEVER YOU'RE READY, MR. MCCULLOUGH, JUST STATE YOUR NAME AND I'LL START THE CLOCK.
AND ONCE AGAIN, I'LL GIVE YOU A ONE MINUTE WARNING WHEN YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE.
OKAY, FINE. I WON'T EVEN TAKE 5 MINUTES.
I LIVE IN LITTLE ELM AND I WAS ASKED TO REVIEW A BOOK FOR YOU GUYS.
AND I DID REVIEW THE BOOK, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO BORE YOU WITH THAT.
I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE BOOK.
AND I DO A LOT OF HOMEWORK WHEN WHEN I'M ASKED TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
AND I'M GOING TO SHARE A LITTLE HISTORY WITH THE BOOK.
[01:05:03]
THE BOOK WAS PRINTED IN 1999, AND THE BOOK WAS PART AND PARCEL TO TAKING THE EVIL PERSON.THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE BOOK, THE RAPIST, PUT THEM IN JAIL FOR EFFECTIVELY THE REST OF HIS LIFE.
THE ALLEGED RAPIST HAD ANOTHER DAY IN COURT AND WITH NEW EVIDENCE WAS FOUND THAT HE WAS NOT GUILTY.
HE SPENT 15 YEARS IN PRISON BECAUSE OF A BOOK.
OKAY. THIS BOOK IS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL.
IT'S NOT BEEN OUT SINCE 2018, BUT IT'S IT'S AVAILABLE TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MR. KELLER. APPRECIATE IT.
I WANT TO GIVE MARCELLAS 5 MINUTES AND I'LL GIVE YOU ONE MINUTE WARNING.
WE'LL TAKE THAT LONG. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I THINK THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN HERE ARE ABLE TO WATCH ONLINE, YOU MIGHT WANT TO COVER THEIR EARS OR EXIT THE ROOM AS THE DIALOG I'M GOING TO SHARE IF I CAN IS EXTREMELY DEPRESSING AND INAPPROPRIATE. I'M SURE THAT THERE'S MORE THAN JUST THIS ONE BOOK AT LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL, BUT FOR TONIGHT'S DISCUSSION, I'LL REFERENCE THE BOOK PUSH A NOVEL ON THE DESTINATION DISCOVER WEBSITE.
STARS SHOWS THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE COPIES IN THE HIGH SCHOOL.
THE INTEREST LEVEL SHOWN IS ADULT, WHICH TO ME MEANS OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE.
THE OBJECTION RATING FOR THE BOOK IS FIVE OUT OF FIVE.
THE CONTENT WARNING IS GIVEN WITH EXPLICIT DIRECTIONS.
YOU ARE ABOUT TO ACCESS MATERIAL THAT MAY CONTAIN CONTENT OF AN ADULT NATURE.
THESE FILES MAY INCLUDE PICTURES AND MATERIALS THAT SOME VIEWERS MAY FIND OFFENSIVE.
THE BOOK WAS ALSO GIVEN A MOVIE RATING OF NC 17 EXTREME FOR CONTENT WITH SEXUALLY EXPLICIT EXPERTS EXCERPTS SEXUAL ASSAULT, CHILD ABUSE AND MOLESTATION, GRAPHIC VIOLENCE AND PROFANITY.
AN OVERVIEW OF THE BOOK IS AS FOLLOWS PRECIOUS JONES, A 16 YEAR OLD WHO IS PREGNANT WITH HER SECOND CHILD BY HER FATHER, IS PUSHED BY HER COURAGEOUS AFRICAN-AMERICAN TEACHER TO LEARN TO READ AND DISCOVERS THE TRUTH ABOUT HERSELF IN HER LIFE.
FROM THAT DESCRIPTION, YOU THINK, OH, THIS IS GREAT.
YOU KNOW, A GOOD SUCCESS STORY.
I'M GOING TO TRY TO READ YOU AN EXCERPT THAT I PULLED.
I'M NAUSEOUS IN MY STOMACH, BUT NOT TIGHT, AM I, TWAT? AND I THINK I WANT IT BACK.
THE SMELL OF THE BEDROOM, THE HURT.
HE SLAPPED MY FACE TILL IT STING IN MY EARS, SEEING SEPARATE SONGS FROM EACH OTHER CALL ME NAMES MY PUSSY IN AND OUT, IN AND OUT I COME I REALLY CAN'T EVEN READ ALL THIS. IT'S JUST HORRENDOUS WHAT THE BOOK IS TALKING ABOUT.
AND THAT IN ITSELF IS DISTURBING ENOUGH.
AS A SUMMARY, THIS BOOK HAD OVER 150 PAGES AND MANY OF THEM HAD EXPLICIT INFORMATION IN THEM.
WE CAN'T KEEP OUR KIDS FROM SEEING OR READING EVERYTHING THAT WE WISH THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO SEE.
BUT AS PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, WE SHOULD HAVE SOME SAY.
SO FOR WHAT KIDS HAVE ACCESS TO IN OUR LIBRARIES HERE IN THE SCHOOL OR IN THE PUBLIC LIBRARY, THEY GET EXPOSED TO ENOUGH SMUT WITHOUT HAVING IT AT A LOCATION WHERE WE CANNOT MONITOR WHAT THEY'RE BEING EXPOSED TO.
PLEASE CONSIDER DOING A THOROUGH CHECK ON THE BOOKS AT ALL OUR SCHOOLS.
I'M SURE THERE ARE CITIZENS WHO WOULD ASSIST LIBRARIANS IN THIS PROCESS.
I REALIZE THERE ARE TOO MANY BOOKS FOR ANY LIBRARIAN TO EXAMINE BEFORE THEY GO OUT ON SHELVES.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU, MISS SELLERS.
[01:10:02]
I KNOW. I JUST FIGURED YOU JUST REDOING YOUR TIMER.SO TONIGHT I COME TO DISCUSS POLICY PROCESS OR PROCEDURE AND THE LAW.
ON MAY 16TH, AT THE SIXTH, AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING, THERE WERE SEVERAL OBJECTIONS THAT WERE MADE TO A SIMPLE VERBIAGE ADDITION TO A FOR A BOOK TO BE CHECKED OUT OR REMOVED FROM A LIBRARY SHELF FOR A DESIGNATED COMMITTEE TO REVIEW IT BY READING AS SET FORTH IN A PROCESS UNDER AN INFORMAL REVIEW VERSUS THE DISTRICT HAVING TO PURCHASE MORE BOOKS FOR THAT SAME COMMITTEE TO READ, TO READ, FOR REVIEW BASED ON THE POLICY NOT BEING FOLLOWED AND NO FORMAL CHALLENGES HAVING BEEN MADE TO THOSE OBJECTIONS, I WILL RESPOND.
THE DISTRICT STAFF THEN CREATES A PROCESS OR PROCEDURE THAT ENACTS THAT POLICY.
THESE TERMS SHOULD NOT BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY.
ONE MUST WONDER WHY THE PROCESSES AREN'T REVIEWED UNDER THE SAME MICROSCOPE THAT THE LOCAL AND LEGAL POLICIES THAT THE PROCESS AND ACTS ARE.
THE DISTRICT STAFF CAN DECIDE TO CHANGE THE PROCESS.
APPARENTLY, WHENEVER THEY DECIDE, LET LIKE THE ONE THAT I WAS REFERRED TO, OR LIKE THE ONE THAT MR. GALLAGHER REFERRED TO ON MAY 16TH, WAS SWIFTLY CHANGED AT THE BEGINNING OF JUNE WITHOUT A DATE BEING ADDED TO THE NEWLY UPDATED DOCUMENT ITSELF.
AND THE NEWLY UPDATED PROCESS LEFT OUT KEY PORTIONS OF LOCAL AND LEGAL BOARD POLICY.
AND JUST THIS MORNING, I DISCOVERED THAT YET A THIRD PROCESS FOR THE SAME POLICY WAS REVISED AGAIN ONLINE, LEAVING OUT KEY PROCESS, KEY ITEMS OF THE IN THE PROCESS THAT TO ME SCREAMS OUT OF COMPLIANCE.
THE LIBRARY MEDIA CHALLENGE PROCESS THAT WAS ONLINE ON MAY 16TH AND ON JUNE 2ND.
UPDATED ONE BOTH CONTAINED A TIMELINE WHICH I BELIEVE DR.
ANOTHER OBJECTION TO PASSING A POLICY VERBIAGE EDITION WAS DUE TO A NEW TAB ALERT FOR A POLICY UPDATE THAT CAME OUT EARLIER THAT DAY, AND NO ONE HAD HAD BEEN ABLE TO READ IT YET.
UNDERSTANDABLE. MY RESPONSE AND I IS THE LARGEST SCHOOL BOARD TONIGHT CONSIDERS THAT A TAB POLICY UPDATE FOR MAY 16TH IN THE IN EFA AND IF BE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD POLICY THIS EVENING.
THE PASSING OF THIS WILL SEPARATE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND LIBRARY MEDIA, THUS ALLEVIATING ANY CONFUSION AS CURRENT F DOES EFA IF A AND B ALSO ADD VERBIAGE WITH CLEAR DEFINITIONS OF THE PENAL CODE WITH REGARDS TO THE OBSCENE MATERIALS BEING GIVEN TO MINORS, IF A AND B SET LOCAL, LOCAL SETS BOUNDARIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW AND BOUNDARIES ARE ALWAYS GOOD.
AFTER HAVING READ THESE POLICIES, I WAS HAPPY TO SEE REFERENCES TO THE SIPA CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S INTERNET PROTECTION ACT, HOPING THAT THIS WILL STOP ANY STOP THE UNFETTERED ACCESS TO ACCESS TO ONLINE.
RESOURCES IN THE NAME OF EDUCATION THROUGH OUR LIBRARY SERVICES SERVICE LINKS ON OUR ISD WEBSITE.
AND SOMETIMES I QUESTION IF THEY ARE EVEN WITHIN THE FIREWALL BECAUSE THEY ARE EDUCATIONAL LINKS.
RECENTLY I LEARNED THAT THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE I'M GOING TO SKIP DOWN THE MATERIALS AND LIBRARY MEDIA BOUNDARIES WILL WILL SET FOUR SET IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW THE F, A AND B LOCALS IF THEY ARE PASSED TONIGHT.
THESE POLICIES ARE NOT ABOUT IDEOLOGIES, AS PICO REFERS TO, BUT THESE ARE ABOUT PROTECTING OUR TEXAS CHILDREN, THE HEART OF TEXAS, OUR FUTURE FROM PERVASIVELY VULGAR AGE, INAPPROPRIATE, SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIALS AS OUTLINED IN THE TEXAS PENAL CODE.
AND NOW IS THE TIME PASS EFA AND BE LOCAL.
I HOPE I SAY THIS RIGHT, LOUIS.
[01:15:16]
MY NAME IS MELINDA PRESTON.FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY YOU ARE AMAZING AND YOU'VE GOT TO BE A BLAST TO WORK WITH.
I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE HOW FUN YOU WERE TONIGHT.
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, I'D LIKE TO TALK ABOUT A BOOK I WAS ASKED TO REVIEW.
I'LL TELL YOU, IT WAS A LITTLE SHOCKING, TO SAY THE LEAST.
AND IT IS IN THE LITTLE ELM HIGH SCHOOL.
I DO REALIZE WHEN I LOOK AT ALL OF YOU THAT YOU DO NOT WANT PORNOGRAPHY IN YOUR SCHOOLS.
I MEAN, EVERY ONE OF YOU I KNOW DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THIS CONTENT, BUT THESE BOOKS SLIPPED THROUGH.
AND I KNOW THAT. I KNOW THAT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING, THEY COME THROUGH IN LARGE AMOUNTS.
YOU GUYS DIDN'T KNOW YOU DIDN'T WANT THEM.
YOU DIDN'T YOU DIDN'T ORDER THEM.
BUT IF WE CAN PULL THEM AND TAKE THE TIME TO.
WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO BE SAFE IN THE LIBRARY AS WELL.
SO I'M GOING TO READ THIS A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE IT IS DISTURBING.
I WILL LEAVE IT WITH YOU GUYS SO YOU CAN JUST REVIEW IT.
AND IT'S GOT LITTLE EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK.
SO YOU KNOW WHAT PAGE IT'S ON.
SO I GOT THE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET.
I DIDN'T DO IT MYSELF. I'D LIKE TO TAKE CREDIT, BUT I WON'T.
THE SUMMARY OF CONCERNS IS THIS BOOK HAS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT EXCERPTS INVOLVING MINORS.
THE BOOK ALSO CONTAINS SEXUAL ASSAULT, UNDERAGE DRINKING, ILLEGAL DRUG ABUSE AND PROFANITY.
THE CHILD GETS ABUSED BY AN UNCLE.
AND SO AND THAT'S THAT'S HARD TO TO READ AS WELL.
IT WOULD BE RATED AND IN 17 IF IT WAS A MOVIE.
SO WE WOULD NEVER ALLOW ANY OF OUR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 17 TO SEE AN END 17 MOVIE.
EXCEPT 36 IS I FINISH OFF A FLAT BLUNT AND I'M ALMOST READY TO FINISH MYSELF OFF.
I WOULD THINK THAT'S OBVIOUS, MOM.
I'M SMOKING WEED AND CHECKING OUT A LITTLE GUY ON GUY ACTION.
SHE NEVER EVEN NOTICED HER EYES GO WIDE AT MR. TOP DRILLING, MISTER BOTTOM GOD SHANE.
AND NOW SHE'S ON TO GRANDMA'S GOOD CHINA.
I REMEMBER HER. SHE NEVER USES ANYONE.
SO ANOTHER LITTLE I'M GOING TO DO ONE MORE BECAUSE THEY'RE PRETTY NASTY.
I HEAR THE CANNED MOANS THAT CAN ONLY MEAN THEY'RE WATCHING CABLE PORN.
MARK YOURSELVES AT HOME, HE SAYS, PATTING THE SOFA BESIDE HIM.
ORGY. MICK AND I WOULD APPRECIATE A LITTLE ALONE TIME.
YOU KNOW, TIE WAVE SAYS DOWN THE HALL, YOU HAVE MY PARENTS ROOM.
JUST BE SURE TO CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES, OKAY? DYLAN PULLS ME THROUGH THE DOOR AND HIS KISSES ARE FILLED WITH INTENT.
WAIT, I SAY, GOING TO THE BATHROOM TO GET A CLEAN LOOKING TOWEL? I PUT IT OVER THE PRETTY PAISLEY SPREAD.
THAT'S PLENTY FOR DYLAN, WHO PULLS ME DOWN ON TOP OF HIM.
WE ARE KISSING, LICKING, BITING, MOANING LOUDER THAN THE TV AND THE OTHER ROOM.
HE'S READY WANTS INSIDE ME, BUT NOT YET.
WHERE'S THE CONDOM? I FORGOT IT, BUT IT'S OKAY.
I'LL PULL OUT. DON'T WORRY, DON'T WORRY.
WE DIDN'T. WE DIDN'T USE ONE LAST TIME.
BUT NOW IT'S BEEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
HE ROLLS ME ONTO MY BACK STRONG.
PROMISE I WON'T GET YOU PREGNANT.
AND I HAVE TO HAVE YOU RIGHT NOW.
HE HESITATES, WAITING FOR MY ANSWER.
EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS SHOUTING YES.
SO I NOD AND LOSE MYSELF IN THE MOMENT.
MAKING LOVE WITH WITH HIM IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
WE BROUGHT TOGETHER IN RHYTHM ONE.
AS HE STARTS TO TENSE, I REMIND HIM WITH A SUBTLE LIFT OF MY LIPS.
HE HE WITHDRAWS JUST IN TIME, SLIPPING MY BELLY SEE ALL GOOD I AM HAPPY FOR THE TOWEL BENEATH ME HAPPIER TO LIE TOGETHER BATHED IN SWEAT AND THE STICKY PROOF OF OUR LOVE.
SO THIS KIND OF STUFF JUST ISN'T ALL OF US.
WE'RE PARENTS. I'M SURE EVERYBODY IN HERE HAS CHILDREN, RIGHT? NONE OF US WANT OUR KIDS READING THAT.
AND ESPECIALLY IN OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY, THEY MAY PICK IT UP SOMEWHERE.
BUT IN OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY, AT THE SCHOOL, IT SHOULD BE A SAFE PLACE.
[01:20:01]
SO I APPRECIATE YOU GUYS AND ALL YOU DO.I KNOW THIS IS NOT NOT EASY, BUT I DO APPRECIATE YOU ALL LISTENING TO US TONIGHT.
SO I'LL HAND US OVER TO WHO WOULD LIKE TO.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU GENTLEMEN, BUT I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME.
THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT. WE'LL GO AND MOVE ON TO ITEM NUMBER NINE.
[9. Approval of Minutes]
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES.THIS LAW IS ANYTHING OR A BOARD.
HOPE EVERYBODY HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW THE MINUTES.
DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE A MOTION? DO I HAVE A SECOND? ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES.
SO I GOT ONE. OKAY, THAT'S FINE.
OKAY, THAT'S FINE. TO ALEX AND MARY.
[10. Action Items]
WE'LL GO ON INTO THE ACTION ITEMS. MR. GALLAGHER. PRESIDENT OLSEN.AND I APPRECIATE EACH ONE OF YOU COMING AND JOINING US TONIGHT AND SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS.
BUT IT WAS REFERRED TO TONIGHT A REVISION.
AND REALLY, I'M GOING TO LET ME CLARIFY.
IT'S NOT A REVISION OF IF LOCAL IF LOCAL IS OUR CURRENT BOARD POLICY, AND IT IS A COMBINATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND LIBRARY MATERIALS AND WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED.
I'M GOING TO WALK YOU THROUGH A VERY, VERY SHORT PRESENTATION.
I DON'T HAVE THE CLICKER. SO NEXT SLIDE, WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED IS A DELETION OF F LOCAL AND AN ADDITION OF EFA AND EFB.
AGAIN, IT'S CURRENT AND COMBINED POLICY FOR INSTRUCTION AND LIBRARY MATERIALS.
IF A LOCAL WILL BE A NEW POLICY, WHICH AGAIN WAS REFERRED TO BY ONE OF OUR SPEAKERS TONIGHT, WAS IT WAS REALLY RECOMMENDED BY TO BACK IN THE LATE SPRING.
IT'S A NEW POLICY THAT WILL ADDRESS INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, WHICH ARE TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES AND IF BE LOCAL, WILL BE THE NEW POLICY TO ADDRESS LIBRARY MATERIALS.
SO IF A LOCAL IT'S VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD, IT'S SELECTION OF INSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND THEN REALLY HOW TO CHALLENGE THOSE, INCLUDING IN INFORMAL OR FORMAL AND AN APPEAL PROCESS.
SO WHAT WOULD HAPPEN THERE? DON'T GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE YET.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN THERE IS IF A PARENT IS CONCERNED ABOUT A LESSON, THEY'VE GOT A CONCERN ABOUT A SPECIFIC LESSON THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM. THERE IS A AN INFORMAL PROCESS WHERE THEY WOULD MEET WITH THE CAMPUS PRINCIPAL FIRST, REALLY THE TEACHER, A CAMPUS PRINCIPAL, AND THEN THEY WOULD GO THROUGH THE FORMAL PROCESS.
AND THEN, OF COURSE, AN APPEAL PROCESS THAT IS ALL SPELLED OUT IN EFA LOCAL.
AND THEN IF B IS DIFFERENT, THIS IS WHERE IT WILL BE SPECIFIC TO LIBRARY MATERIALS.
WHAT'S WHAT'S ADDED WITH IF B COMPARED TO EFA OR EFA LOCAL RIGHT NOW IS THE COMBINATION, THIS BECOMES A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC.
AND I WANT TO RECOGNIZE MR. WEISMAN. HE IS OUT IN THE AUDIENCE AND HE SUPERVISES OUR LIBRARIANS.
PARENTS CAN CURRENTLY RIGHT NOW SEE WHAT INVENTORY WE HAVE.
YOU CAN GO TO THE SCHOOL, GO TO OUR WEBSITE, CHOOSE THE CAMPUS YOU WANT TO LOOK AT AND GO TO THE LIBRARY AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET IN AND SEE WHAT LIBRARY BOOKS WE HAVE AND ALSO KNOWLEDGE OF BOOKS THERE STUDENTS ARE CHECKING OUT.
PARENTS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHICH LIBRARY BOOKS THEIR CHILDREN HAVE CHECKED OUT.
THERE'S GOING TO BE A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS.
I DON'T HAVE ALL THE DETAILS YET, BUT WE'RE GOING TO GET THIS TO THE PARENTS.
IN ADDITION, THEY WILL HAVE AN OPTION TO RECEIVE NOTIFICATION WHEN THEIR CHILD CHECKS OUT A BOOK.
[01:25:03]
CHANCES ARE, I HAVE A FEELING IT'S GOING TO BE LIKE A 24 HOUR DELAY.BUT PARENTS WILL HAVE NOTIFICATION OF WHAT BOOKS THEIR KIDS ARE CHECKING OUT.
IT ALSO DOES INCLUDE PROTECTION FROM INAPPROPRIATE MATERIALS.
IT ADDRESSES THE PENAL CODE 43.2 FOR A TWO AND 43.2 A ONE.
AND THEN AGAIN, HOW DO WE SELECT LIBRARY MATERIALS? AND THEN THE CHALLENGING LIBRARY MATERIALS, INCLUDING INFORMAL, FORMAL AND THE APPEAL PROCESS, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND LIBRARY MATERIALS.
SINCE IT HAPPENS AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL, WE REALLY WANT THE PARENT TO WORK THROUGH THAT INFORMAL PROCESS, WORK THROUGH WITH THE PARENT OR WORK THROUGH WITH A TEACHER. AND THE FORMAL CHALLENGE WILL EVEN HAPPEN THERE FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, LIBRARY MATERIALS.
THE FORMAL CHALLENGE WILL HAPPEN AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE LEVEL AS IT'S BEEN HAPPENING THIS SUMMER.
AND AS YOU ALL ARE AWARE, WE'VE HAD I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT NUMBER.
THAT COMMITTEE WAS SET UP AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE LEVEL AND WE WILL CONTINUE THAT PROCESS, I THINK.
DO WE HAVE ONE MORE SLIDE AND THEN QUESTIONS? MR. FLORES. WHEN YOU MOTION.
YEAH. DO I HAVE A MOTION FROM THE BOARD TO ACCEPT OR CONSIDER THE APPROVAL? IF LOCAL BOARD POLICY UPDATE AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS? THE APPROVAL OF BOARD POLICY EFA LOCAL AND RFP LOCAL AS SUBMITTED IN BOARD.
DO I HAVE A SECOND? SECOND? SO, AGAIN, QUESTIONS.
YEAH. MR. GALLAGHER, THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE.
WHAT DOES THAT PROCESS LOOK LIKE WHEN IT'S BEING CHALLENGED? HOW LONG IS THE BOOK OUT? IS THE BOOK STILL IN THE LIBRARY ACCESSIBLE TO STUDENTS WHILE WE'RE CHALLENGING IT? YES. YES.
SO WE'VE GOT BOARD REPRESENTATION ON THAT COMMITTEE.
SO IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY MAKE CALL.
MR. WEISMANN UP IN A SECOND, SO, MR. WISEMAN, BE PREPARED.
WHAT WAS ASKED THAT ONE MORE TIME, BECAUSE I THINK I ANSWERED PART OF IT.
SO IS THE BOOK STILL IN THE LIBRARY? WHILE IT MAY BE IN THE LIBRARY, IT MAY NOT BE.
IT DEPENDS. MR. WISEMAN, WOULD YOU MIND COMING UP TO THE LECTERN NOT TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT SO IT MAY BE IN THE LIBRARY? IT MAY NOT BE WHAT THE CURRENT POLICY STATES IS THAT MUST BE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS THROUGH THAT PROCESS.
WHEN I SAID MAYBE IN THE LIBRARY.
IT MAY NOT BE. IT MAY NOT BE BECAUSE WE MAY HAVE PULLED IT TO READ IT OURSELVES.
SO IT MAY NOT BE ON THE SHELF PHYSICALLY.
IT'LL STILL BE IN THE INVENTORY.
THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PULLED FROM INVENTORY.
IS THERE A TIMELINE THAT THESE COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE GIVEN TO READ THAT BOOK IN AND THEN REPORT BACK? OR I'M GOING TO REFER TO MR. WISEMAN. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME PUT YOU ON THE SPOT.
THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK TO YOU ALL TONIGHT.
YES, THERE'S A THERE'S A TIMELINE THAT HAS THAT WORKS WITHIN THE POLICY THAT AS IT EXISTS RIGHT NOW, OUR CURRENT POLICY DOES NOT HAVE A SPECIFIC DATE OR NUMBER OF DAYS FOR THE COMMITTEE TO READ, YOU KNOW, ACTUALLY DO THE ACT OF READING THE BOOK.
AND SO WE DO NEED TO MAKE SURE WE GIVE THEM ENOUGH TIME TO ACTUALLY READ AND PROCESS THE TEXT.
WE'RE ALSO ASKING THE SAME COMMITTEE TO READ MULTIPLE BOOKS, SOMETIMES AT THE SAME TIME.
SO WE'RE HAVING TO KIND OF JUGGLE THOSE DEMANDS AS WELL AS THE SCHEDULES OF ALL THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN ORDER TO REACH A OR HAVE A COMMITTEE DISCUSSION TO REACH A CONCLUSION WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME.
SO LET'S SAY THAT A BOOK IS REMOVED.
AT A LATER DATE. CAN A STUDENT REQUEST SOMETHING IN THE SYSTEM THAT SIGNIFIES THAT THIS BOOK CAN NEVER BE ORDERED AGAIN, OR HOW WE PREVENT THAT BOOK FROM COMING BACK TO THE SHELVES? SO WE'RE.
OH, I'M SORRY. GO AHEAD. WELL, I WAS GOING TO SAY WE HAVEN'T HAD A BOOK REMOVED AT THIS POINT.
YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT A LIST OF BOOKS THAT THE COMMITTEES THE COMMITTEE IS REVIEWING.
[01:30:04]
ONE BOOK THE COMMITTEE DETERMINED WOULD STAY IN INVENTORY.IT SHOULDN'T BE ON OUR SHELVES.
AND I THINK WE WOULD ALL AGREE WE DON'T WANT ANY BOOK THAT VIOLATES THE PENAL CODE ON OURSELVES.
SO THAT'S FIRST. BUT YEAH, IT WOULD BE REMOVED FROM OUR INVENTORY.
AND THEN I'M SURE, MR. WEISMAN, WE'D HAVE A SYSTEM TO ENSURE THAT THAT BOOK WOULD NOT BE ORDERED.
AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT WOULD BE, BUT I'M JUST ASKING BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A PROCESS IN PLACE SO THAT IT DOESN'T COME BACK TO OUR SHELVES, RIGHT? YES. WE'LL KEEP IT RUNNING RECORD.
AND WE'RE PUTTING PROCESSES IN PLACE RIGHT NOW TO KEEP A HISTORICAL RECORD OF WHAT NOT JUST WHAT TITLES HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED AND REVIEWED BY COMMITTEE, BUT ALSO WHAT WAS THE COMMITTEE'S DECISION FOR THAT.
AND THEN IF ANY TITLES ARE REMOVED BY THE COMMITTEE, THEN WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A NOTE OF THAT, THAT OUR LIBRARIANS HAVE ACCESS TO, THAT THEY CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE'LL REFER BACK TO THAT AS AS WE PURCHASE AND SELECT TITLES.
I JUST HAD A COMMENT. I DO WANT TO THANK GALLAGHER FOR BRINGING THIS TO AN A COMMUNITY FOR BRAINS.
BUT BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOU KNOW, THE FACT THAT THIS WENT TO TACITUS HAS THIS RECOMMENDATION.
WE'VE CHECKED WITH OUR LAWYERS, WE'VE ACTUALLY LOOKED AT THE DISTRICTS.
SO I'M REALLY COMFORTABLE AND REALLY LIKED THE WAY THIS PROCESS IN AND FOR THIS PARTICULAR UPDATE.
SO AND I DON'T KNOW IF I MENTIONED THAT, BUT OUR ATTORNEY TO SENT OUT THE POLICY IT WAS REFERRED TO EARLIER, I ASKED OUR ATTORNEY TO LOOK AT THAT AND TO MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT WITHIN OUR DISTRICT.
AND IN ADDITION, WE SENT IT TO TABBY BEFORE IT CAME TO THE BOARD.
SO TABBY HAS ALREADY REVIEWED IT AS WELL, SO THERE ARE NO POTENTIAL LEGAL ISSUES WITH IT.
A LOT OF TIMES POLICIES ARE BROUGHT TO THE BOARD.
THEN WE HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK IT.
BUT IT'S ALREADY BEEN VETTED BY TABBY AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ATTORNEY.
SO. LET'S GO TO MY QUESTION HERE.
IF IT VIOLATES THE PENAL CODE.
HOW ARE WE MAKING THAT DETERMINATION? AND THE EXAMPLE I'M GOING TO USE IS THE MATERIAL HERE, THE THE BOOK TILT AND PUSH.
SO THESE BOOKS ARE GOING THROUGH THE COMMITTEE AND THEN THERE'S A DECISION.
BUT HOW WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR SAYING THAT A BOOK HAS.
I'VE GOT THE PENAL CODE HERE, WHICH I THINK YOU ALL HAVE THE I HAVE THE PENAL CODE.
BUT I THINK THE PENAL CODE IS IT'S IT'S PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD.
I'M NOT GOING TO READ IT, BUT.
WELL, I WOULD HAVE TO READ. I THINK.
I THINK WE WILL. WELL, FIRST OFF, I WANT TO BE VERY CLEAR.
THE SUPERINTENDENT OF LITTLE ELM ISD IS NOT GOING TO UNILATERALLY.
DECIDE IF A BOOK VIOLATES THE PENAL CODE.
I WANT TO PUT THAT OUT THERE TO THE COMMUNITY.
WE HAVE A COMMITTEE PROCESS NOW, BUT I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT AND WE DID RECEIVE SOME FEEDBACK FROM A COUPLE OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT THAT COMMITTEE ALSO NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THE PENAL CODE AS THEY ARE REVIEWING THE BOOK.
MY HOPE IS AND I ANTICIPATE THIS HAPPENING THAT THAT COMMITTEE, AS THEY'RE REVIEWING IT, THEY WILL HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE PENAL CODE AND THAT COMMITTEE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT DETERMINATION.
AND THAT'S WHERE I THINK WE'RE GOING TO NEED SOME HELP FROM THE STATE.
YOU KNOW, WE'RE WE'RE TRYING TO DO THE BEST WE CAN AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, BUT THERE'S SOME SUPPORT WE NEED AT THE STATE LEVEL WITH THIS AS WELL, WHICH I DON'T WANT TO BORE EVERYBODY BORE EVERYONE WITH THAT.
I HAVE MY OWN OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS ON THAT.
BUT. DOES THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION? NOT REALLY. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO INTO? THE IF IS IF IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE COMMITTEE TO UNDERSTAND THE PENAL CODE, HOW ARE WE GOING ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT THE COMMITTEE UNDERSTANDS THE PENAL CODE?
[01:35:01]
WELL, I THINK THEY NEED A COPY OF THE PENAL CODE, AND I THINK THAT NEEDS TO BE A DISCUSSION.SO THE VERY FIRST THING I WOULD RECOMMEND IS SITTING WITH A COMMITTEE AND.
A MINOR MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL YOUNGER THAN 18 YEARS OLD.
A APPEALS TO THE PRURIENT INTEREST OF A MINOR IN SEX NUDITY.
AND I DON'T EVEN WANT TO READ THIS.
BUT IT IS IN THE PENAL CODE OR.
EXCRETION SO YOU CAN KEEP READING.
AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, WE'RE ALL ADULTS, WE'RE ALL PROFESSIONALS, WE ALL HAVE DEGREES SITTING UP HERE AND WE'VE ALL BEEN IN EDUCATION AND WE'VE GOT A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE. I THINK WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, THE COMMITTEE NEEDS TO HAVE THAT DISCUSSION AND THEY NEED TO ASK THEMSELVES AND THAT'S THE CHARGE OF THE COMMITTEE IS DOES THIS BOOK VIOLATE THE PENAL CODE? YEP. SO.
I'M SAYING, SINCE WE'RE SAYING THAT IN THE IN THE NEW POLICY THAT I SAW, IT SAID REMOVE IT.
AND I THINK EVERYONE WOULD AGREE WITH THAT.
THERE'S NO I MEAN, WHO'S TRYING TO VIOLATE THE LAW? I'M SAYING THAT WE ARE IN OUR AND NOW WE'RE.
I'M SORRY, WOULD YOU SAY WE AREN'T RIGHT? WE ARE NOT. SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IF WE'RE SAYING IN THE POLICY, ON THE ONE HAND, IF A BOOK IS CHALLENGED, IT GOES TO THE COMMITTEE, THEN IF WE THINK SOMEONE SAYS A BOOK IS VIOLATING THE PENAL CODE, SHOULDN'T IT GO TO THE COMMITTEE? YEAH, I WOULD SAY WE HAVE GOT A COMMITTEE FOR THAT.
BUT I ALSO THINK THAT IF WE ARE AWARE OF A BOOK THAT IS SO AND I'LL GIVE YOU A PRIME EXAMPLE.
THERE WAS A BOOK THAT WAS REMOVED FROM MANY SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
THE TITLE IS GENDER QUEER, AND WE ALSO HAVE THE LEGAL AUTHORITY WHEN A BOOK DOES VIOLATE THE PENAL CODE, WHEN IT IS SO PERVASIVELY VULGAR AND OBSCENE.
IT'S OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT TO REMOVE THAT BOOK.
I DON'T DISAGREE THAT WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO FOLLOW THE PENAL CODE.
I'M ASKING BECAUSE EVERYONE IS NOT DEGREED, EVERYONE IS NOT OF THE SAME CULTURE.
EVERYONE IS NOT OF THE SAME PERSPECTIVE ABOUT MORAL RIGHT AND WRONG.
SO IF WE ARE SAYING THAT WHEN A BOOK IS CHALLENGED, YOU GO TO THE COMMUNITY.
THEN WHEN SOMEONE BELIEVES A BOOK IS VIOLATING THE PENAL CODE, SHOULDN'T IT ALSO GO TO THE COMMITTEE BECAUSE OTHERWISE A PERSON? I THINK IT'S THE SAME THING. I THINK IT'S ANY BOOK WHETHER, BUT IT DOESN'T SAY THAT IN THE NEW POLICY AND THE NEW POLICY, IT SAYS IF IT VIOLATES THE PENAL CODE.
BUT THAT'S WHERE THE COMMITTEE REVIEWS IT TO SEE IF IT MEETS THE CRITERIA TO REVIEW THIS.
IF YOU LOOK AT THE PROCESS THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE, THAT'S ON THE WEBSITE.
SO IT'S TWO THINGS. YOU HAVE ONE NEW BOARD POLICY AND THEN YOU HAVE THE PROCESS.
SO YOU'RE QUESTIONING THE PROCESS.
SO WHY WAS IT ADDED TO THE BOARD POLICY TO REMOVE IT IF IT VIOLATES THE PENAL CODE? IF IT'S BECAUSE THAT'S THE LAW? YEAH, IT'S THE LAW, I'M SAYING.
AND THAT CAME FROM THE ATTORNEY THAT CAME FROM TASMANIA.
NO, IT WON'T BE BECAUSE I'M SORRY.
THE, THE, THE NOTE IS IN THERE ABOUT IF IT'S CHALLENGED.
YEAH. AND THEN THERE'S NOT A STATEMENT THAT SAYS.
THE SAME THING FOR IF THERE'S A QUESTION MARK ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE BOOK.
AND I JUST WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO BE CLEAR WHICH THAT IS THAT IS ADDED NOW, WHICH I MEAN, THAT'S LIKE SAYING WE'LL REPORT A CRIME WE DON'T NEED TO PUT IN OUR POLICIES THAT WE WILL FOLLOW THE LAW.
WELL, ACTUALLY, THAT THAT WAS PUT IN.
IF YOU IF YOU LOOK AT WHAT TO PUT OUT THERE AND AGAIN, THIS IS FROM THE ATTORNEY.
YEAH. WHAT'S OUT THE TAB AS WELL.
I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO GET A RETURN PHONE CALL BACK FROM THEM, BUT I'M SAYING NOW THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT, I WANT US TO BE REALLY CAREFUL ABOUT OUR FUTURE GROUP.
I MEAN, WE HAPPEN TO HAVE A GROUP OF PEOPLE RIGHT NOW THAT CAN GO OVER THESE THINGS.
BUT IF WE CONSIDER THE GROWTH OF ANY COMMUNITY, YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR POLICIES AS IF SOMEONE WHO IS NOT LIKE MINDED IS FOLLOWING THE POLICY. SO I THINK TO IF YOU DON'T MIND IF I STEP IN HERE, IT'S ONE OF THE TOPICS THAT WE HAVE THAT I'VE LISTED FOR TEAM OF EIGHT THAT I THINK AT THAT POINT IN TIME RIGHT NOW WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT IS WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT EFA AND EFP THAT ARE RECOMMENDATION.
[01:40:04]
SO I'D LIKE TO GO AHEAD AND CONTINUE TO NOT DISMISS THIS TOPIC BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE IT HOPEFULLY AT THE TEAM OF EIGHT.TRAINING IS GOING TO BE A TOPIC WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.
BUT FOR NOW, I THINK THIS IS ABOUT EFA IF BE PASSING WITH A RECOMMENDATION FROM OUR LEGAL TEAM.
IT WOULD BE MY RECOMMENDATION.
BUT YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO CONTINUE ASK ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS.
SO I DO HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, MARY, WHEN IT COMES TO MATERIALS THAT ARE TAUGHT IN OUR CLASSROOM, IS THERE A PROCESS TO DETERMINE WHAT IS ALLOWED TO BE TAUGHT AND WHAT ISN'T? ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO LITERATURE IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL, JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH CLASSES.
IS THERE A PROCESS THAT BOOKS ARE ALLOWED? WHAT BOOKS ARE ALLOWED TO BE TAUGHT? YES. AND THAT'S PROBABLY A QUESTION THAT I WOULD ASK DR.
MAYBE NOT. LET ME TRY TO ANSWER THIS.
SO WE HAVE AN ADOPTED CURRICULUM.
SO THE ANSWER IS YES, THERE ARE APPROVED MATERIALS.
HOWEVER, IF WE FIND THAT A AN INSTRUCTOR OR A TEACHER IS USING SOMETHING THAT ISN'T APPROVED AND IS INAPPROPRIATE, WE'VE GOT THAT PROCESS THAT WE WOULD GO THROUGH TO ADDRESS THAT.
IT'S ONE OF THE TOPICS I'VE MENTIONED.
SO WE DO HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR WITH A SECOND.
LET ME MAKE SURE I READ THIS RIGHT.
I'M SORRY. I GOT TO SCROLL BACK UP.
I GOT A LITTLE AHEAD OF MYSELF ON THAT AND I WENT DOWN TO THE NEXT ONE.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED. MOTION PASSES 4 TO 1.
PRESIDENT OLSON BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
IN YOUR BOARD BOOK, YOU HAVE ATTACHMENT A, WHICH IS THE ANNUAL SUMMARY OF COSTS FOR THE APPROVED INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE TOWN OF LITTLE ELM FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS, WHICH ARE LICENSED PEACE OFFICERS.
JUST TO MAIN REMAIN TRULY TRANSPARENT.
THE POLICE OFFICERS WILL WORK DIRECTLY WITH CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO MAINTAIN A SAFE CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT AND ALSO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION REGARDING CAMPUS SCHOOL RELATED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
THE ATTACHMENT A FOR THE TOWN OF LITTLE ELM WILL PROVIDE THE NECESSARY POLICE OFFICERS THROUGH OUR SRO PROGRAM, WHICH WILL MAKE ALL OF OUR FACILITIES WITHIN THE TOWN OF LITTLE ELM HAVE A AN ASSIGNED SRO TO THAT CAMPUS.
SO WITH THAT, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THE SUMMARY OF COST OF ATTACHMENT A TO THE INNER LOCAL AGREEMENT SRO PROGRAM WITH THE TOWN OF LITTLE ELM. SO I DO.
IT'S A MOVE OF A SECOND, SECOND MOTION IN A SECOND.
SO I HAVE A MOTION IN THE SECOND.
ARE THOSE IN FAVOR? RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED MOTION PASSES.
ATTACHMENT A AGAIN FOR THE TOWN OF OAK POINT SRO PROGRAM FOR THEIR REOCCURRING INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT.
THIS TIME EVERY YEAR WE BRING THIS ATTACHMENT A FORWARD TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
THAT IS THE REOCCURRING OFFICER THAT WE HAVE AT OUR FACILITY IN THE TOWN OF OAK POINTE.
[01:45:05]
SO WITH THAT, THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THE SUMMARY OF COST ATTACHMENT A TO INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT SRO PROGRAM WITH THE TOWN OF OAK POINT.DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT? SO DO I HAVE A SECOND, SECOND, SECOND FOR MR. INGLIS? ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED MOTION PASSES.
OH, MR. ROBERTS, ONE MORE TIME.
THIS WILL PROVIDE AN SRO IN BOTH COLONY FACILITIES THAT WE HAVE WITHIN OUR DISTRICT.
AND SO THIS IS AN ANNUAL SUMMARY OF COST FOR THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF THE COLONY AND WHAT THOSE SROS WILL PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.
ANY QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR. RAISE YOUR HAND.
ON THE SUPPOSED MOTION PASSES.
THANK YOU, MR. ROBERTS. APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
GO TO ITEM E CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE UPDATE POLICY.
LOCAL. MS.. ADAMS. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT OLSON.
I'M GOING TO TAKE MY CUES FROM FROM MISS BROWN, WHO HAS COME FROM EARLIER.
THIS WAS THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WE HAD OUR MEETINGS HERE IN THE AUDITORIUM.
SO IT'S KIND OF SURREAL TO BE STANDING IN THE SAME SPOT.
WE HAD ABOUT 1500 STUDENTS AT THE TIME AND WE'VE GROWN A LITTLE BIT.
IT HAD TO LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
YES, THERE WAS A STAGE, THOUGH.
AS MR. GALLAGHER MENTIONED EARLIER MANY TIMES ON POLICIES, WE WILL DRAFT THOSE POLICIES AND SUBMIT THEM TO YOU IF YOU ONCE YOU'VE APPROVED THOSE AND WE SUBMIT TO TASK B FOR SOME LEGAL CLEANUP.
BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHENEVER WE GO AHEAD AND SUBMIT POLICY AHEAD OF TIME, WHENEVER WE HAVE A HEAVY, YOU KNOW, A MAJOR CONTENT ON SOMETHING THAT'S NOT DONE THROUGH AN UPDATE THAT THEY RECOMMEND.
AND SO THAT IS THE CASE WITH THIS POLICY.
AND OUR RECOMMENDATION IS THAT THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THAT WE HAVE AN UPDATE TO POLICY LOCAL WHICH WOULD ALLOW US TO EFFICIENTLY AND SEAMLESSLY OPERATE DAILY DISTRICT BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS.
SO A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION BACKGROUND ON THAT.
THE ITEMS WHICH ACCUMULATE TO $50,000 ARE NOT THE SAME AS THEY WERE SEVEN YEARS AGO.
WHENEVER THE 50,000 LIMIT WAS IMPLEMENTED AND WE HAVE ADDED ALMOST 25% MORE STUDENTS AT THAT TIME, INFLATION IS AT RECORD HIGHS AND THAT RESULTS IN OUR REACHING THE 50,000 MARK MUCH QUICKER WITHOUT NECESSARILY RECEIVING MORE SERVICES OR PRODUCTS, WE JUST REACH THAT LIMIT.
[01:50:02]
CHRISTOPHER. OKAY.LET ME REREAD THAT REAL QUICK.
MAKE SURE I DO IT RIGHT. DO I HAVE A MOTION FROM THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE POLICY? LOCAL DATE OF JULY 18, 2022 AS SUBMITTED.
SO. I HAVE A MOTION TO HAVE A SECOND, SECOND, SECOND FOR MARY.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? SO WILL WE STILL BE REPORTING WHEN WE DO OUR REPORTS IN THE BOARD BOOK? WILL YOU STILL BE DOING 50,000 OR ABOVE OR WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE THIS TO ONLY BE 100,000 ABOVE.
IT WOULD BE 100,000 OR ABOVE UNLESS THE BOARD REQUESTS OTHERWISE.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE, BUT I WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE 50,000.
NOT A PROBLEM. I KNOW COSTS ARE ALWAYS CHANGING AND THEY'RE GOING UP.
WE DON'T HAVE THAT MANY. I MEAN, YEAH, WE DON'T HAVE THAT MANY, SO IT'S NOT A TON.
SO I DON'T, YOU KNOW, HAVING THREE OR FOUR ON THE LIST I THINK IS A BIG, BIG DEAL.
SO WE CAN CERTAINLY DO THAT REPORTING.
OKAY, PERFECT. SO I DO HAVE A MOTION IN THE SECOND ALL THOSE OR ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FIRST.
I'M SORRY, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.
RAISE YOUR HAND. ALL THOSE OPPOSED MOTION PASSES.
OUR RENEWAL IS AS OF SEPTEMBER THE FIRST, AND A FEW NOTES THAT I WANT TO INCLUDE IN THIS RECOMMENDATION ARE THAT IT IS A STATEWIDE ISSUE, NOT ISOLATED TO ISD, BUT SOME SPECIFICS ABOUT OUR PREMIUM INCREASE.
AFTER SPEAKING WITH OUR REPRESENTATIVE BATTERSBY, I ACTUALLY TALKED TO ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS ON THE TAMPA RISK MANAGEMENT BOARD TO GET MORE JUST UNDERSTANDING OF SOME OF THAT AND SOME OF MY COLLEAGUES ACROSS THE STATE.
SO I'VE JUST GOT A FEW BULLET POINTS I'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU.
HAVE YOU SEEN IN OUR BOND PROGRAM DISCUSSIONS THAT YOU'VE SEEN HOW QUICKLY THAT THOSE ARE ESCALATING? THEY'RE TREMENDOUS INCREASES AND THAT NATURALLY TRANSLATES INTO HIGHER REPLACEMENT COSTS.
SO THEY HAVE TO INSURE US FOR HIGHER AMOUNTS TO REPLACE THOSE, SHOULD WE HAVE A CLAIM? AND SPEAKING OF CLAIMS, LAST YEAR WE HAD $4.6 MILLION IN CLAIMS OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS, SINCE BUILDING FOUR, SINCE BIDDING FOR OTHER CARRIERS, WE'VE HAD $7.6 MILLION IN CLAIMS COMPARED TO THE PREMIUM PAID OF $2.2 MILLION DURING THAT SAME TIME PERIOD.
AND SO IT'S JUST BEEN UNFORTUNATE.
AND SO THAT REALLY LEADS ME TO MAKING SURE THAT WE DISCUSS AND THAT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT TAB IS A RISK MANAGEMENT FUND, NOT AN INSURANCE COMPANY THAT CARRIES REINSURANCE. AND THEY ACTUALLY SHOP US IN THE INSURANCE MARKET.
SO IN THEIR DOCUMENTS FOR OUR RENEWAL, ONE OF THE THINGS THEY TALK ABOUT IS THAT WITH MORE THAN $200 MILLION IN MEMBER EQUITY, THEIR FUND BALANCE BASICALLY FOR THAT, REMEMBER THAT RISK FUND, THE FUND HAS THE FINANCIAL STRENGTH TO MANAGE CLAIMS AND RESPOND TO THE IMPACT OF CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS FOR OUR MEMBERS.
THE PROPERTY COVERAGE COSTS CONTINUE TO BE DRIVEN BY SEVERE WEATHER AND INCREASED BUILDING VALUES.
AND SO WHENEVER WE HAVE INSURANCE PREMIUM COSTS THAT ARE SHOPPED OUT AND I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT IN A LITTLE BIT, THEY'RE ABLE TO OFFSET SOME OF THAT PREMIUM COSTS WITH WITH THOSE FUNDS, WHICH WE'RE VERY FORTUNATE AND APPRECIATIVE, APPRECIATIVE OF.
BUT COMPANIES SUCH AS LLOYD'S OF LONDON AND ABOUT 25 OTHER COMPANIES AS WELL, WE BENEFIT FROM THE INTEREST EARNINGS OF THE RISK MANAGEMENT POOL AT 200 MILLION, WHICH IS OFFSETTING INCREASING PREMIUMS. AND THEY LOOK AT THE WHOLE RISK FOR THE MEMBERS AND THEREFORE WE BENEFIT FROM THOSE AREAS THAT HAVE LESS RISK.
AND IT WORKS KIND OF LIKE A CO-OPERATIVE FOR US TO GET THOSE BENEFITS.
[01:55:03]
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT UNTIL I SPOKE WITH ONE OF THEIR BOARD MEMBERS WHO LIVES IN OUR AREA AS WELL.AND WE CAN LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THIS BUILDING IN WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW WITH SOME OF OUR CLAIMS. AND SO THAT DEFINITELY DRIVES SOME OF OUR PREMIUM COSTS.
AND WE'LL REPEAT THAT PROCESS BEFORE NEXT YEAR'S RENEWAL TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT STILL HOLDS TRUE.
AND SO WE NEED TO GET A LITTLE BIT FURTHER BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE THE HEALTH CLAIMS THAT WE HAD THE WINTER FREEZE CLAIMS ABOUT TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS THAT YEAR AS WELL. MANY OF MY COLLEAGUES THAT BID THIS YEAR RECEIVED ON THE HEELS OF WINTER STORM URI AND OTHER HARSH WEATHER AND MAJOR HAILSTORMS, RECEIVED NO BIDS, AND SO THERE REALLY WEREN'T ANY OPTIONS.
I ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING IN MY FORMER DISTRICT THE LAST YEAR THAT I WAS THERE.
WE WENT OUT FOR BID AND WE RECEIVED NO BIDS, SO WE HAD TO GO OUT AGAIN.
AND SO THE RISK MANAGEMENT FUND WAS OUR OPTION.
OUR OUR PREMIUM IS OVER $1,000,000 FOR THIS YEAR.
AND SO IT IS AGAIN, SUBSTANTIALLY A LARGE PART, BUT IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE CAN OPERATE WITHOUT.
AND SO THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS THAT WE CONTINUE WITH THE TEST OF RISK MANAGEMENT, BUT.
THANK YOU. DO YOU HAVE A MOTION FROM THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE TASB INSURANCE POLICIES AS SUBMITTED? I MOVE. I GOT MONY ON THE MOTION TO HAVE A SECOND AGAIN FOR MARY.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBERS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR. RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED MOTION PASSES.
THANK YOU, MISS ADAMS. APPRECIATE IT.
THE NEXT ITEM, CONSIDER APPROVAL, THE BOARD MEMBER RESIGNATION.
SO WE DO NEED TO FORMALLY VOTE ON THIS.
SO AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, WE'VE RECEIVED A RESIGNATION LETTER FROM TRUSTEE MELISSA MYERS TO BE EFFECTIVE JUNE 30TH THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO DANIEL AND PAST PRESIDENT DAVID MONTEMAYOR.
DO I HAVE A MOTION FROM THE BOARD TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION LETTER OF TRUSTEE MELISSA MYERS? SO DO I HAVE A SECOND, SECOND OR I'M SORRY? ANY QUESTIONS? NO, I JUST.
I WAS GOING TO MAKE A STATEMENT.
NO, GO AHEAD. YES, YES, GO AHEAD.
YEAH, I JUST WANTED TO AND OF COURSE, MRS. MYERS IS NOT HERE, BUT I DO WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO THANK HER PUBLICLY FOR HER SERVICE FOR ALL THE YEARS THAT SHE'S SPENT HERE.
AND SO I DO WANT TO THANK HER PUBLICLY FOR EVERYTHING THAT SHE'S DONE FOR THIS DISTRICT AND FOR THIS BOARD AND FOR FOR US HERE IN LITTLE ELM ISD. I APPRECIATE THAT.
SO WE HAVE A MOTION IN A SECOND.
ALL OF THE FAVOR. RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED MOTION PASSES JUST TO LET THE COMMUNITY KNOW.
WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A TIMELINE RIGHT NOW TO RECEIVE APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO MS. MEYER'S POSITION. WE WILL APPOINT A COMMUNITY MEMBER, OF COURSE, FOLLOWS THE PROTOCOL, MEETS ALL THE REQUIREMENTS OF EVERYTHING TO BE A BOARD MEMBER, AND WE WILL APPOINT THAT PERSON TO FINISH OUT MS.. MIERS TERM FOR THE NEXT YEAR AND A HALF.
AM I DOING MY MATH RIGHT HERE? ONE YEAR. SO ONE YEAR.
[11. Consent Agenda]
GOING TO NUMBER 11 CONSENT AGENDA.DO I HAVE ANY ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED FOR ANY BOARD MEMBERS? WITH THAT. DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS SUBMITTED? SO I HAVE A MOTION TO HAVE A SECOND SECOND.
ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THE ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA? OKAY. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR. RAISE YOUR HAND.
ALL THOSE POSTS. MOTION PASSES, SO WE WILL GO INTO BOARD.
[12. Board President Comments]
PRESIDENT COMMENTS.JUST ONCE AGAIN TO THANK STAFF FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK ON ALL OF THE ITEMS WE'VE HAD TONIGHT.
WE'D LIKE TO THANK ALL THE STAFF ON THIS.
EXCUSE ME. DIFFERENT, INVIGORATING.
THIS IS JUST ONCE AGAIN, I THINK, A SIGN OF EVERYTHING COMING WITH THE DISTRICT.
WHAT WE'RE DOING, THE INNOVATION DESTINATION DISTRICT IS JUST CONTINUING TO MOVE ON.
SO I'M LOOKING FOR GREAT THINGS COMING OUT OF THE DISTRICT.
THANK YOU AGAIN TO MISS MYERS FOR HER TIME SERVING ON THIS BOARD.
ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS A VOLUNTEER POSITION.
THE PAY IS OK IF YOU COUNT, ZERO IS OK.
SO WE DO APPRECIATE YOU HER GIVING HER TIME OVER THE LAST 3014 2014.
[02:00:04]
SO YEAH, I WAS GOING TO SAY EIGHT YEARS.SO WE DO TRULY APPRECIATE HER.
IT IS A FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THIS IS IT'S JUST NOT THE BOARD MEETINGS.
IT'S SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE.
SHE WAS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT INITIATIVES WITHIN THE DISTRICT THAT TAKE UP MORE OF OUR TIME THAN JUST THE 2 TO 3 HOURS YOU SEE UP HERE ON THE SECOND MONDAY OF EACH MONTH. AND A LOT OF EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS FOR ME WHEN SHE WAS PRESIDENT, WHICH NOW YOU'RE YOU'RE WELL AWARE OF, NOW YOU'RE GETTING TO ENJOY THAT.
HAVE A NEW APPRECIATION. A NEW APPRECIATION.
[13. Board Comments]
